Aiden's brain suddenly couldn't keep up. He spaced out for a bit, then seemed to remember something.
'Damn… this crossover's getting too wild.' Aiden thought helplessly.
But immediately after, he thought again, the timeline of the earlier parts of the Resident Evil series isn't too far off from Black Lagoon's. If not talking about genre, then blending them together kind of makes sense.
'But if I do it like this, won't the Resident Evil timeline get messed up?' Aiden thought in distress again. If the storylines connect, then if he returns to Resident Evil in the future, would he see another version of himself?
'Or is this crossover based on the Resident Evil world as the main world?' Aiden thought of another possibility, and suddenly he had a bit of a headache.
"What's wrong with you?" Seeing Aiden suddenly zoning out, Revy waved her hand in front of his eyes and asked.
"Nothing, just thought of an old friend." Aiden gave a bitter smile and pulled his thoughts back.
"Is it this person named Jill Valentine?" Revy pointed at the inscription on the gun and asked.
"Sort of." Aiden hesitantly nodded.
"She's a woman, right?" Revy suddenly became interested and leaned in front of Aiden to ask.
Aiden pushed her face away in disgust and said with annoyance, "Don't be so nosy."
"Gossip is a woman's nature, I'm no exception." Revy shamelessly leaned closer to Aiden again, placing her hand naturally on his shoulder, and said, "But, for a woman to give you a gun, what was she thinking?"
"Who cares what she was thinking, it's none of your business anyway." Aiden waved her hand away from his shoulder, took back his gun, and silently walked to the side.
"Lame." Revy curled her lips, then sat down carelessly on a chair, and somehow pulled out a bottle of alcohol again, gulping it down.
At this time, Benny came up from the cabin and shouted at Dutch, "Dutch, we've connected with Asahi Heavy Industries."
"Great." Dutch said, picking up the radio headset from the console and tossing it to Rokuro Okajima.
"Hello, is this the Black Lagoon Company?"
"Minister Kageyama, I'm Okajima. About the lost hard drive, please let me explain…" Rokuro Okajima had just put on the headset when he heard the minister's voice and quickly started to explain.
But the minister interrupted him, [Oh, it's Okajima, huh? You're still alive?]
"I'm still alive? Minister, what do you mean by that?"
Minister Kageyama didn't answer that question and continued, [You don't need to explain this matter, and don't worry about it. That disc… it no longer exists.]
"What do you mean?" Rokuro Okajima didn't understand.
[Forget it, the situation's special, so I'll just tell you directly.] The minister's voice carried no emotion at all, cold like a machine, [To save the board of directors' increasingly worsening performance, we agreed to a certain country's request to develop nuclear weapon technology. Of course, this plan is honestly terrible. What age are we in now? Even our neighbors have stopped nuclear testing. I really don't get what the board is thinking.]
[But it doesn't matter. When I get promoted, I'll find a way to resolve it. But before that, this matter absolutely must not be exposed to the public. So, I hope you don't leak it. Of course, you won't be able to. By now, the people we hired have probably already been sent.]
"People you hired? Those mercenaries were sent by the company to kill me?" Rokuro Okajima was shocked.
[Yes. Only the dead won't leak information. That's why I'm telling you all this. You… must die.] The minister said coldly, [But don't worry, the company won't shortchange you. We'll officially announce that you died in an accident and even posthumously promote you two ranks.]
[Alright, Okajima, that's all. After you die, we'll hold a grand funeral for you.]
Then, the call was cut off.
"Why…"
Hearing the beeping tone after the call ended, Rokuro Okajima powerlessly knelt on the ground, letting the headset fall from his hands. Then, the intense discomfort of receiving a death notice caused a strong physical reaction. He covered his mouth and ran to the deck, leaning over the side of the boat and vomiting.
Aiden and Revy followed up and, seeing his condition, Revy started with sarcastic words, "Tch, abandoned, huh? So pitiful. But our ransom and payment seem to be gone too. So in that case, we're even more pitiful!"
"Alright, Revy. Can't you say something comforting?" Aiden nudged her with his elbow.
"Okay, okay, I'll pity him for a minute." Revy said with a blank face, showing no signs of actual sympathy.
Seeing Rokuro Okajima almost vomiting up bile, Aiden took out a bottle of water from his storage space and tossed it to him.
That made Revy very curious, and she circled around him, inspecting him.
"Rinse your mouth. You look terrible." Aiden said as he pushed Revy away and spoke to Rokuro Okajima.
Rokuro Okajima nodded in dejection, opened the water bottle, took a sip, but before he could swallow, he spat it out again.
"Was it necessary to be this scared? Even crying now." Revy, pushed away several times by Aiden, finally gave up and mocked Rokuro, "You're really not manly."
"None of your business." Rokuro Okajima turned his face to the side, trying hard to hide his tears.
"Pitiful pride." Revy snorted coldly, just as she was about to add more mockery, Benny's voice came through the headset.
"Revy, Aiden, you two on deck?"
"What is it?"
"Well, the radar shows something is speeding over the water, but it's not a ship. It's faster than a ship. Look toward your three o'clock. Can you see it?"
Hearing this, Aiden and Revy both looked to three o'clock. In the early morning sun, a helicopter was flying toward them at high speed.
"What is… that?" Rokuro Okajima was stunned and shouted.
"It's an armed helicopter designed for low-altitude penetration." Revy saw the four hardpoints on both sides of the chopper and her face turned unusually serious. She immediately ran back into the cabin, dragging out two big crates with both hands.
"Aiden, help me out." She shouted.
Aiden ran over and opened one of the crates, seeing it filled with firearms and ammunition, even a large-caliber anti-materiel sniper rifle.
"You're not planning to shoot that armed helicopter down with just this, are you? That Mi-24 Hind might be an early model, even second-hand downgraded export version, but it's not something you can shoot down with just guns. Don't you have anything bigger?" Aiden picked up the sniper rifle, checked it skillfully, and asked.
"Of course I do." Revy pulled out an RPG from her crate. "This is the big one."
"That's it?" Aiden was speechless. "I might as well hope the helicopter malfunctions and crashes itself. I meant a shoulder-launched anti-air missile."
"Nope, too expensive. We can't afford that." Revy lifted the RPG and tried aiming, but realized it wasn't suitable for hitting a moving helicopter, so she tossed it back in the crate and pulled out another sniper rifle. "The cheapest anti-air missiles start from tens of thousands, and this job only paid us twenty thousand."
As she said this, she raised two fingers at Aiden to indicate how little they were making this time.
Even so, the two didn't stop moving, quickly finding positions and opening fire on the Hind that kept launching rockets at the torpedo boat.
But honestly, using guns for anti-air combat was pushing their limits. Never mind hitting it, even if they did, the damage from the sniper rifle wouldn't be enough to bring down a heavy attack helicopter like the Hind.
Rokuro Okajima crouched back down on the floor, hiding under the torpedo launcher, hugging his head and shouting, "Can you stop talking and just shoot it down already?"
"Shut up, you try it, damn it." Revy was furious. She'd emptied a magazine without hitting anything and was already in a bad mood. Now even worse, she shouted, "That's a high-speed attack helicopter, not some slow-ass old car. It's not that easy to shoot down."
"Also, you're hiding under the torpedo launcher. If you don't want to die in an explosion, get out of there."
Rokuro's face went pale, and he scrambled out from under the launcher, only to do something that left Revy speechless.
He put on a life jacket, clearly intending to jump ship.
"What are you trying to do?" Revy shouted.
"I'm getting off. I don't want to die here." Rokuro shouted back, clutching the railing and not even looking back.
"You bastard, all you do is drag us down."
Revy, holding her gun, flipped over and kicked him down. She was about to follow up with another kick when Aiden ran over and pushed both of them aside.
Dadadadada…
The Hind happened to sweep right over their heads. The minigun mounted on its nose spewed out over half a meter of fire, strafing exactly where they had just been. Nearly half the bullets ricocheted off the deck, and one happened to graze across Aiden's forehead.
"You bastard, do you really want to die?" Seeing the blood on Aiden's forehead, Revy flew into a rare rage and punched Rokuro Okajima in the face, then drew her pistol and pressed it to his head.
"I might as well just shoot you dead."
