Chapter 31 - Chapter 31 Searching for Zombies

Two vehicles were driving one after another on a desolate path, getting more and more off - the - beaten - track. Gradually, not even a single zombie could be seen.

After about half an hour, with a "creak~", the off - road vehicle finally pulled over to the side of the road.

"Here we are. This is the place!" Chu Wei pointed at a circle of fences by the road.

Lin Qingqing looked around and found that on both sides of the road where they were, one side was a towering hillside, and the other side was the direction Chu Wei pointed at. If she wasn't mistaken, inside the fences was a wetland park.

This park was quite famous before the end - of - the - world. Every hot summer, a large number of tourists would come here to escape the heat. However, it was the off - season for tourism now. The park was cold and damp. Logically, there shouldn't be many zombies.

"You actually found this place!" Lin Qingqing thought Chu Wei was really resourceful, knowing what was in such a remote place.

"This is the side of the park. There's a small door in front. It was used as a passage for transporting goods before the end - of - the - world. I came here before, planning to enter through this path to find the warehouse. But I encountered that zombie at a lake halfway."

Chu Wei introduced it in great detail. It seemed that he still intended to take the same route this time.

The small door was ajar and could be easily pushed open. Seeing how familiar he was with the place, Lin Qingqing somewhat believed that he had really been here before.

At this moment, the park was astonishingly quiet. Only the sound of the car wheels rolling over the leaf - covered road could be heard, making a "crunch, crunch~" sound.

Chu Wei drove the car very carefully, as if he was afraid of disturbing something.

"Squeak~"

The car stopped again. Chu Wei got out of the car and said to Lin Qingqing, "We'd better walk the rest of the way ahead. Keep quiet."

Lin Qingqing nodded and followed suit, walking lightly with a look of complete trust.

Chu Wei glanced at her but didn't say anything. He just silently led the way in front, and it was hard to tell what was on his mind.

The wetland park in winter was cold, damp, and filled with thick water vapor. A continuous flow of white mist formed in the woods.

The few of them were walking in this white mist. The cold and damp air made the people in it feel extremely uncomfortable. Even breathing became difficult, especially for Chu Wei, who had a fire - type power. The environment here seemed to be naturally suppressing him, and even his ability was weakened a bit.

In contrast, the other three people were affected much less, especially Xiao Li. He was a water - type power user, the opposite of Chu Wei. This place not only had no negative impact on him but even had a slightly beneficial effect. In the white water mist, he could feel that his ability was recovering faster.

After walking about five hundred meters, they arrived near their destination. At this time, through the gaps in the woods, they could already see the lake.

"This is the place..."

Chu Wei was about to talk about that zombie when suddenly, a girl's scream and cries for help came from the distance, followed by the growls of zombies.

"There's someone!"

The few of them were stunned and, without hesitation, quickened their pace.

"Why would we encounter someone stealing the 'monsters' while out on a hunt?" Lin Qingqing couldn't help but grumble in her heart. How could there be others in such a desolate place?

"Ah~ Help!"

Several more panicked screams came from ahead. Judging by the voices, there were more than one person! There were pitifully few zombies in the park originally. Judging from the screams of these young people, it was very likely that the one chasing them was that Level - 2 zombie.

The four of them quickly ran forward for dozens of meters and left the woods. Passing through the last layer of thick fog, the lake ahead gradually became clear.

On the green path by the lake, a gaunt zombie was chasing a group of young people. These young people were about the same age and dressed similarly. There were six of them, half male and half female.

The three boys took the lead and ran at the front. Two girls with good physical strength were in the middle, and the slightly chubby girl was slower than the others, so she was at the back.

She was panting as she tried to run, and it seemed that the zombie's sharp claws were about to catch her. At this moment, a girl with a ponytail running in front of her suddenly turned around and pulled her in time.

With the help of her companion, she ran a few steps forward quickly. Unfortunately, her speed slowed down again soon after.

Seeing that her companions in front were getting farther and farther away, she made up her mind and pushed the ponytail - girl who had saved her behind her. It didn't matter if she couldn't be the first one to run away. As long as she could run faster than the last one, she wouldn't die! In a life - or - death situation, all moral principles and friendships had to take a backseat.

The ponytail - girl who was pushed to the back was stunned. She let out a scream: "Feifei, what are you doing?" But the chubby girl who had already run in front of her seemed not to have heard her question and kept running forward desperately without looking back.

However, she still underestimated the physical strength and will to survive of the ponytail - girl. Seeing that she was about to be overtaken again, the chubby girl anxiously called for help from the boys running at the front.

It was unknown what she said to them, but a vine suddenly shot out from one of the boys' wrists. With a "snap", it lashed at the ponytail - girl's leg.

This unexpected blow successfully stopped the ponytail - girl's steps, making her completely fall to the back of the group. And the remaining tall girl didn't have time to say anything before she was dragged away by the other three boys, along with the chubby girl.

The ponytail - girl was injured in the leg by the vine whip and fell to the ground. But she didn't panic. She rolled on the spot with all her might, barely dodging the first attack of the zombie's sharp claws. Then she kicked the zombie's second claw aside with her uninjured leg.

Unfortunately, although she was desperately trying to save herself, in the face of a Level - 2 zombie, her resistance was still as weak and pitiful as a mantis trying to stop a chariot. As the zombie's third attack came, the ponytail - girl sitting on the ground still didn't give up. She firmly raised her hands, fingertips touching each other. When she opened them again, five shiny arcs of electricity appeared at the tips of each finger. Then, with a flash of electric light, the girl's five fingers, leaving after - images, grabbed at the zombie's swinging arm. Her eyes were filled with a desperate determination, just like a female wolf fighting to the death.

"Ziz" The electric light hit the zombie, sparking a few times, and then disappeared. It had no effect at all! How could this be!

"Am I going to die?" She was unwilling, and the electric light at her fingertips flickered a few more times.

Just then, a silver light flashed, and with a "zheng~" sound, it struck the zombie's sharp claw. The silver light didn't pause, and using the claw as leverage, it flipped the zombie to the side.

Then, the ponytail - girl's arm was lifted and placed on a slender shoulder, and she was dragged away into the distance. The person supporting her was much taller than her. Although thin, they were incredibly strong, and she was almost dragged along as she ran.

"Who is this person? Why are they here? Why did they save me?" After the extreme fear, her mind went blank. The arm around her waist was squeezing her painfully, but she didn't have time to care. She could only move her legs desperately by instinct.

At this moment, there was only one thought in her mind: Faster, run faster. I must not drag down this person who saved me.
