When everyone gathered around the captain, he began speaking about their plans for how they could get back home.
"Listen, everyone, I found a way so we can go home," Captain Ayan said, his voice firm but slightly strained from the events of the day. "After asking the system and understanding our current situation, I've reached a conclusion. For now, we have to stay on this planet."
Everyone stared at him in disbelief. "How can we live here?" Hye rin asked, her voice laced with fear. "What should we do?"
As panic started to take over, the captain's calm voice cut through the growing chaos. "Everyone, calm down. Listen to me till the end. I'm saying that for the time being, we have to live here. We need to fully understand our situation and figure out how to repair our spaceship."
A sense of unease settled over the group as they exchanged worried glances. "But there's no equipment to repair the ship!" John said, his voice anxious. "We don't have what we need!"
"We will figure something out," Captain Ayan responded confidently. "We need to research the planet and its resources. If we can find something useful, we might be able to repair it. But first, we need to make sure we can survive."
"We have enough food for a week," Tanisha noted, looking at the provisions they'd gathered. "But what about the monsters? We can't trust anything here."
"Right," the captain agreed. "There's no way to preserve food without refrigeration. We'll need to investigate the monster meat and the fruits we find here to see if they're edible."
"Let's head back to the spaceship and hide it before any more monsters come and destroy it," Ayan said, motioning for everyone to follow. The group turned and began their journey back to the crash site, carrying the body of the strange monster they had encountered, along with some of the fruits and water they hoped to examine later.
As they walked, Ayan's mind wandered. He couldn't shake the thought of the monsters. Even their bullets didn't seem to penetrate their skin. "We need stronger weapons," he muttered to himself, looking over at Hye rin. "Can I borrow the broken sword?"
He took the sword, still surprised by how resilient it was. He pulled out a sharp knife to try and sharpen the sword's edge, but as soon as he attempted to cut it, the knife's blade snapped in half. "What...?" Ayan exclaimed, astonished.
"How did that happen?" Luca asked, his eyes wide with surprise. "That's the sharpest knife we have! It can cut through steel. How did it break on a sword?"
"Maybe it's just that strong," Ayan muttered, inspecting the broken sword. "If this sword is sharper than any weapon we've had back home, maybe it can help us defend ourselves against the monsters. We need to find more weapons like this."
"How did you get this sword, anyway?" Captain Ayan asked, turning to Hye rin.
"I don't really know how to explain it," Hye rin said, clearly confused. "When that monster died, I heard a voice in my head. It said, 'You killed an ordinary class monster' and gave me a killing reward – the broken sword."
"And then...?" Ayan prodded, wanting to hear more.
"It also told me I leveled up, and that I need 120 experience points to level up," Hye rin replied, still trying to process what had happened.
"Wait, so you leveled up?" Captain Ayan asked, more intrigued now. "So, this voice is somehow... connected to us?"
"Yeah, it seems like it," Hye rin replied, now fully aware that whatever this was, it was changing everything. "And when I killed the monster, I got a reward. A broken sword... and now, I've got this strange power."
"We get weapons and experience by killing monsters, and this sword is clearly strong enough to hurt them," Ayan thought aloud. "We need to get stronger if we want to survive here."
The group kept moving, heading toward the crash site. It didn't take long before they saw something that made their hearts drop: another monster. This one was different, looking like a dog but with black and green patterns across its body and glowing green eyes.
Before they could react, the monster noticed them and charged toward them, moving with terrifying speed. "Scatter!" Captain Ayan yelled, as everyone quickly dodged out of its way.
The creature lunged at the captain, but he was ready. With the broken sword in his hand, he dodged its attack and stabbed it in the side. Blue blood splashed out as the sword made contact with its tough skin. The creature howled in pain, but instead of retreating, it turned toward Luca.
Luca, in a panic, began firing his SMG rifle, but the bullets didn't seem to faze the creature. It continued its relentless charge, turning its focus on Tanisha next. But before it could strike, Ayan lunged forward, taking three quick swipes at it with the sword. Despite the wounds, the monster was still standing, its eyes glowing with rage.
As the monster turned to flee, it tried to escape into the jungle, but Haruto was standing right in its path. The creature attacked him fiercely, its claws slashing at his stomach. Ayan, too far to reach in time, threw the broken sword toward Haruto, who caught it just in time.
With a swift strike, Haruto slashed the monster. The creature staggered, blood pouring from its wounds, but before it could die, it stabbed Haruto with its claws. The deep gash in his stomach made him gasp for air, his vision blurring from the pain.
Fighting through the agony, Haruto began to stab the creature repeatedly, driven by fear and desperation. As he grew weaker, the monster finally collapsed. Haruto, too, was on the brink of collapse, but just before he lost consciousness, a voice rang in his mind.
[You killed an ordinary class monster "Trinx".]
The voice continued.
[You didn't get a killing reward, but you gained one status point.]
[You gained 100 experience points. You leveled up.]
Haruto collapsed to the ground, his blood pooling beneath him. The group rushed to his side, terrified. "Haruto!" Hye rin screamed, her voice filled with panic.
Ayan snapped out of his own shock and immediately took charge. "Get a grip! We need to do something, or he'll die!"
Everyone snapped into action at Ayan's command. "Hye rin! Tanisha! You're doctors – stop the bleeding!" Ayan barked. "John, Luca, Kaito – go find a surgical table or a mattress. The rest of you, look for medical kits."
Within minutes, they had everything they needed: a mattress for Haruto to lie on and medical kits. Hye rin and Tanisha quickly started the surgery, working quickly to save his life. Charlotte found an oxygen cylinder, which fortunately hadn't been damaged in the crash. Tanisha helped Haruto put on the oxygen mask, and everyone stood by, praying silently for his survival.
While the doctors worked, Ayan and John went off in search of a safe place to stay. They noticed the night was fast approaching, and they needed shelter before any more monsters showed up. In the distance, they found a cave in the mountains. When they checked inside, they were relieved to find that there were no monsters inside.
"We can hide here," Ayan said, thinking quickly. The spaceship, though broken, was light enough to move, and they managed to carry it with just a few people. They found a large cave nearby where they could store the ship and hide from any threats. Using the ship's protective barrier, they concealed the entrance to the cave.
"We'll be safe here," Ayan said, breathing a sigh of relief as they settled into the small cave. "Now, we just need to make sure we're ready for whatever comes next."
