Chapter 18 - Eight-Petaled Black Ice Grass, Fiery Delicate Apricot

Yu Tianming handed a dagger to Yu Yuanzhen and said, "Great-grandfather, use this dagger to cut that white flower off at the root and place it aside."

At the center of the Extremely Cold Yin Spring grew a white herb. Its top resembled a large white flower with eight petals. The center sparkled like crystalline ice, but it emitted no scent.

Yu Yuanzhen had long known that his grandson was mature beyond his years, so he didn't question much and walked directly to the spring.

Though the white spring emitted no temperature, its danger could still be felt—as if even a Title Douluo entering it would leave behind no remains.

As he neared the white flower, the chill became even more biting. Yu Yuanzhen hurriedly used the dagger to slice through the root. The eight-petaled white flower fell with a rustle and was placed among the other herbs.

The moment the flower touched the ground, a wave of icy air spread out, coating the surrounding herbs with a faint layer of frost.

This plant was called the Eight-Petaled Black Ice Grass, a terrifyingly cold herb that chilled the heart and numbed the body's core. Within ten meters, its cold aura could invade one's organs. Lingering nearby for too long would cause incurable frost poisoning. Forget ingesting it—even standing near it spelled misfortune. It could only be harvested using tools made of metal or jade.

Seeing how dangerous the flower was, Yu Yuanzhen glared at Yu Tianming and scolded, "This herb is terrifying! If you'd stood near it for even a moment, you would have died. How do you plan to consume it?"

"Grandfather, don't worry. Use this jade blade to cut off that red herb as well. Water and fire counter each other. If the two are placed together, they become non-toxic within ten seconds. If I consume them then, I'll be immune to both fire and ice—and only then can I enter between the dual springs and refine the Golden Body."

Upon hearing this, Yu Yuanzhen, who had experienced the dangers of both the water and the herb, grew even more enraged. "You're courting death!"

Dugu Bo added, "Even a Title Douluo might not survive those springs. How could you dare go in, little friend?"

Dugu Bo was well aware of the terror of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. He hadn't even brought Dugu Yan here before, fearing the energy would harm his granddaughter.

Seeing their resistance, and determined to consume the one immortal herb he was certain of, Yu Tianming solemnly spouted nonsense:

"Grandfather, do you know about the Seraphim Spirit of the Qian Clan from Spirit Hall? My spirit has already signaled me—this is the only way to consume the herb."

Yu Yuanzhen paused for a moment before saying, "Be careful, then." He then took the jade trowel Yu Tianming handed him and walked to the red spring.

At the center of the scorching Yang Spring, a plant shaped like a cabbage grew. It was entirely red, blazing like fire.

This was an extremely toxic immortal-grade herb with top-level fire poison—Fiery Apricot Delicate Dew. It only grew in scorching environments and could even survive within magma. Its effects were the complete opposite of the icy Eight-Petaled Black Ice Grass.

It couldn't be cut with metal, only jade, to preserve its medicinal potency.

As a Title Douluo, Yu Yuanzhen was fast. With a flick of his hand, the jade trowel sliced the root of the red cabbage-like plant, and the Fiery Apricot Delicate Dew fell to the clearing between the two springs.

Yu Yuanzhen had already been standing by the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well for a while. Harvesting two such extreme herbs—one cold and one hot—left even a Level 95 Power-Type Title Douluo visibly affected, his face pale from the turbulent energy within him.

But he didn't stop. He instantly flashed to the Eight-Petaled Black Ice Grass, tossing it onto the same clearing.

Thanks to his Title Douluo speed, the two immortal herbs landed on the patch of ground before the convergence point of the springs almost simultaneously.

Strangely, the terrifying icy and fiery auras vanished the moment the two herbs came into contact.

Instead, the Eight-Petaled Black Ice Grass began to emit a faint red glow, while the Fiery Apricot Delicate Dew was enveloped in a pale white mist.

Yu Tianming knew he had just ten seconds—this was the only window to safely consume them.

Without hesitation, he summoned his martial spirit, grabbed the now harmless herbs, and swallowed them both.

Though normally deadly, once combined, their harshness disappeared. They melted in his mouth, becoming fragrant liquid that slid smoothly down his throat.

Within five seconds, Yu Tianming's body began to tremble violently. A layer of icy blue rose from his feet, and in a blink, his whole body turned blue.

Then, a wave of red followed, and he turned entirely crimson—like a freshly boiled shrimp.

Yu Tianming was still ten levels below Tang San's level during his own attempt. Even with the resistance granted by the cosmic life form Ghidorah, the clash of these two extremes pushed him to his limits.

The pain surged beyond anything he had endured in either of his lives. His mind nearly shattered from the agony.

He knew he would soon lose control of his body. The bowstring had already been drawn—it could no longer be stopped.

With no time to think, and no way to stop even if he wanted to, Yu Tianming closed his eyes and threw himself into the line between the Extremely Cold Yin Spring and the Scorching Yang Spring.

Yu Tianming remembered clearly—only after the herbs' effects had taken hold could he safely jump into the pool. Otherwise, it would mean certain death.

Now that the medicine had taken effect, he barely felt anything anymore. The moment he consumed the Eight-Petaled Black Ice Grass and Fiery Apricot Delicate Dew, all sensation vanished.

Although the opposing energies had initially neutralized each other, once inside his body, they began to clash violently. The medicinal power of these immortal herbs was terrifying beyond measure. Ice and fire erupted in full force, and Yu Tianming's will couldn't resist. The moment he plunged into the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, he lost consciousness completely.

The spring waters surged briefly with his entry. As he sank completely, the waters stilled again. Milky white and bright red remained starkly separated. Steam continued to rise, and silence returned to the valley.

Watching nearby, Yu Yuanzhen and Dugu Bo both breathed sighs of relief. At least Yu Tianming hadn't been instantly destroyed. That meant he had likely succeeded.

At this point, the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well had already enhanced the properties of the Eight-Petaled Black Ice Grass and Fiery Apricot Delicate Dew, helping to convert their energy into something Yu Tianming could absorb.

Though unconscious, his martial spirit avatar form remained active. The two dragon heads on his trapezius muscles had closed their eyes and curled up on his shoulders, like the beast heads adorning a general's armor.

Within the spring, red and white specks of light began to emerge, gradually gathering and flowing toward Yu Tianming's submerged body.
