Oliver was a shy boy who always got nervous whenever he interacted with girls, which is why he had no girlfriend throughout high school.  

However, all that changed when his parents decided to help boost his confidence so that he wouldn't have any problems interacting with people of the opposite gender in the future.  

But how did they do that?

During a scene where he had to play a confident character, something clicked. Oliver realized that if he could pretend to be someone else, he could also learn to believe in himself. He started applying small acts of confidence in real life—smiling, making eye contact, and even striking up casual conversations.
