Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: The Strategy

The air in the small war room was heavy with tension, a charged silence as the clock ticked away. The walls, illuminated only by harsh overhead lights, seemed to close in on us as we gathered around a table. The map of the remote Hydra facility sprawled across it, outlining the terrain, escape routes, and key positions. Every line, every marked location felt like a potential minefield, but we had no choice now. This was the endgame.

Steve stood at the head of the table, his arms crossed, his face set in that familiar, determined expression. I could see the weight of the mission in his eyes. There was no turning back now.

"We've got one shot at this," Steve began, his voice carrying the gravity of what was at stake. "We know Hydra has been developing the Synthesis project for years. If we don't stop it now, we'll be facing a threat like nothing we've ever encountered. The odds are stacked against us, but we've beaten them before. We can do it again."

Natalie was standing next to him, her expression unreadable as she stared at the map. I could see the same resolve in her eyes, but there was something else too—an underlying fear, an urgency to everything she said.

"I've been in and out of that facility before," she said, her voice steady but laced with concern. "It's more than just a research center. It's a fortress. The security is tight—guards, automated drones, surveillance systems everywhere. But if we can hit them fast and hard, we can breach the perimeter before they have time to react."

Steve nodded. "We'll need a diversion. Something big enough to pull their attention away from our main objective. Once we're in, we hit their core. We don't waste time on anything else."

I leaned forward, my hand brushing the map, my mind racing with possibilities. The strategy was clear, but there were so many unknowns. "What about their Synthesis project?" I asked, looking at Natalie. "How close are they to completing it?"

Natalie sighed, her eyes flicking to me. "Too close. If we don't stop them now, they'll have the first prototype operational within a matter of days. The progress they've made... It's terrifying. They're close to merging the AI components with the enhanced soldiers, and once that happens, it'll be too late. The prototype will be unstoppable."

I clenched my jaw, the thought of facing something that could be more dangerous than any of Hydra's previous creations sent a chill down my spine. "We can't let that happen."

Natalie's expression softened, just a little. "I know. That's why we need to be precise. We can't afford any mistakes."

The room fell into another heavy silence as everyone absorbed her words. The task ahead was daunting. Stopping Hydra, breaking their grip on the world—it felt like we were standing at the edge of something monumental. If we succeeded, we could turn the tide. But if we failed, the world could fall into Hydra's hands, and all the sacrifices we'd made would be for nothing.

"Alright," Steve said, his voice cutting through the silence. "Let's talk execution. Bucky, you'll be our point man. You've got the experience with Hydra, you know how they operate better than anyone. You're the one who can get us inside."

I nodded, feeling the weight of his words. "I'll get us in. I know their methods, their tricks. But I'll need help on the outside to keep their security systems off our backs."

"I'll work with you on that," Natalie said, stepping forward. "I've got the codes for their surveillance systems. I can help you disable their perimeter alarms and override their internal systems long enough to make our move."

Steve turned to her. "That's good. But we'll need more than just hacking. Once we're in, we're going to need a stronghold. We'll need someone to take down the guards and clear the way for us to reach the core."

"I'll handle that," I said without hesitation. "I'm not going to let anyone stand in our way."

"Good," Steve said, his tone approving but still serious. "We all know this isn't going to be easy. But we're not backing down. Not this time."

He looked at each of us in turn, his gaze steady and unwavering. "This is what we've trained for. This is what we've fought for. And this is what we're going to finish. Together."

There was a collective sense of unity in the room, a shared determination that resonated deep within me. I could see the same fire in Steve's eyes, in Natalie's, in all of us. We had all fought Hydra before, in different ways, at different times. But now, we were coming together for one final mission, one last shot at bringing them down for good.

Natalie cleared her throat, breaking the silence. "There's one more thing you need to know. The Synthesis project isn't just about creating soldiers. It's about something bigger. Something Hydra has been planning for years. Once they finish the prototype, they'll have the capability to create an army of enhanced soldiers who can't be controlled, not even by Hydra itself. It's the culmination of everything they've been working for."

The weight of her words hit me like a punch to the gut. I thought I knew how dangerous Hydra was. But this—this was next level. If they succeeded, they could reshape the world in their image, make every nation, every government, bow to them.

"We can't let them do that," Steve said firmly, his eyes burning with the same resolve I felt. "We're going to stop them, Bucky. We're going to take them down."

I met his gaze, the fire in my chest growing. "Let's do it."

We spent the next few hours hashing out the final details of our plan. We'd infiltrate the facility under the cover of darkness, split into two teams—one to disable their security systems, the other to breach the inner sanctum and take down the Synthesis project. Once we had the prototype in hand, we'd destroy it. Simple enough on paper, but I knew better than to expect this to go smoothly. It never did.

Natalie took her place at the terminal, typing furiously as she disabled the security measures that stood between us and our target. "We're in," she said, her voice steady, but I could hear the underlying tension. "The perimeter alarms are down. You have a small window. Move quickly."

Steve turned to me. "Let's go."

I nodded, slipping into the shadows, my heart pounding in my chest. This was it. This was the moment we had been waiting for, the moment that would decide everything. We would either walk away victorious—or we would be buried beneath the weight of Hydra's plans.

And there was no way I was going to let that happen.

We made our way to the facility's outer perimeter, every step calculated, every movement purposeful. I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end, my senses heightened. This was what I was born to do—move, fight, survive. But there was something different about this mission. Something more personal.

We weren't just fighting for survival anymore. We were fighting for the world.

And we were going to win.
