It was any ordinary day. I woke up, put on a white t shirt, and jeans. I looked in the mirror and saw my disheveled brown hair. I was ten years old, but I still decided to help my family on the farm. Despite being a poor family of farmers, we were happy. My parents were so kind to me. Early on in my life, I learned I had developed a mana core. That meant I could be a mage, and we could finally get out of poverty.
I also decided to pick up swordsmanship from my father. He was a knight, but retired once he lost his arm in battle. He always wanted to live in the country, on a farm. I was pretty good as swordplay, but I could never beat my dad. After dinner, I went to bed, like usual. That's when it happened.
I was sleeping, and the sound woke me. I crawled out of my bed, and walked down stairs to my parents panicking. They pleaded with me to go back upstairs and hide but I couldn't. At that moment, someone began banging on the door, until it finally collapsed. I only got a glimpse outside, but that smell of blood will never leave my nose. The yells of the victims, as the vampires devoured them.
My mother, Imari Kawasaki, rushed to push me behind her. She pleaded with the vampire to let me live. The vampire walked closer, my dad, Shiroma Kawasaki, rushed in to try and fight it. He may have been a retired knight, but he wasn't strong enough... The vampire sucked every ounce of blood out of his body, and he collapsed. I shouted "DAD!!!" but it didn't matter. He was dead.
My mother turned to me, and said "Run out the back door, and just keep running. Don't look back no matter what you hear, Hajime."
I could see the fear and desperation on her face, so I agreed. I ran out the back door, through the crops, and into the forest. As I was running, I heard my mother scream out in pain. I couldn't keep the tears from flowing... My parents were dead, and I was simply ten years old. I didn't know what to do, or where to go. I was alone. I didn't know it then, but that night would later be known as "The Red Night" because of the blood spilled, not just in Reah, but in numerous towns throughout the Zupria Empire. It was a declaration of war against the Zupria Empire. A war that would last 10 years...
