Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Emily's POV

"Hi, I've been wanting to talk to you." I said to Damon.

It's been two weeks since the wedding, and our marriage was yet to be consummated, but that wasn't a pressing issue, not for me at least.

"What is it?" Damon asked, stretching out his hand, as I wore his Richard Mille on his wrists.

"I've been thinking," I started, "Can I see a friend?" I asked him.

My heart was in my mouth as I spoke.

"You never mentioned that to me." Damon replied, "Please be fast about that." He added, referring to how I was fidgeting with the watch.

Tending to the Alpha was my utmost duty. He'd made me understand that there's very little input I could ever put into pack administration, or business, and so I should stick to minding him. And that's what I did.

"Yeah." I admitted. "I only thought about her last night. We were friends at the orphanage."

"And you think someone like that would be fit as a company for a Luna?"He asked, still not looking at me.

I finally was able to hook the watch.

"She works on the farm." I said, ignoring his question.

 "She's a worker." Damon observed.

"Yes." I admitted. "We helped each other a lot at the Groomers academy, she's a decent girl too."

"It seems you have your mind made up." Damon said, and wore his suit jacket. "I'll be meeting with the partners today. Your visiting hours are from 2pm to 4pm. Farh will be with you. Guests remain in the visiting room."

"I thought we agreed on 12pm to 6pm?" I asked, shocked at what he said.

"You suggested, and I didn't agree." Damon said, looking at me. "As soon as you put my room in order, Nala will follow you to the store where you can get more dinner clothes. There's a couple of corporate dinners and luncheons in sight. I need you to look your best."

 "Alright." I surrendered.

"I'll see you in the evening." Damon said, and kissed my forehead.

Sometimes I wanted to get pissed at him and snap, but every single time I remembered how much he'd been forced to grow in just two months, it made me understand him a little bit.

So I got to arranging his room. I put his king-sized bed in order, picked up the products he left lying around, his laundry, and every single thing that was out of place.

I checked the cute little watch he got for me just the week before, and it was already almost midday.

Since Luna died, Damon and I had agreed to move Nala up a bit.

We needed the guidance of someone old and seasoned, more preferably someone who knew the family, and Nala seemed to tick all the boxes.

"Hey Nala." I knocked on her door, before opening it without even getting an invitation from inside.

"The Alpha says you need some new clothes. There's a lot of things to be bought, and Farh will take us to the store as soon as you are ready." Nala said.

"I was just about to tell you that." I chuckled nervously. "Did you both discuss it?"I asked Nala.

"Yes." She replied. "A week ago. And he said he would tell me when the time was right. Just thirty minutes ago, on his way out, he stopped by to say the clothes shopping was necessary and couldn't wait one more day." Nala emphasised the words in his tone.

"Alright, alright." I conceded. "I'll throw something on and be with you shortly. Farh can turn the car around."

 "Yes, my Luna." Nala replied.

"Don't be that way with me. I'm just a kid really, I don't think I can handle that title." I begged her.

"Oh, you're doing just fine." Nala said.

I looked at her, for anything that'd betray the fact that she was joking with me.

"That can't be true." I objected. "All I do is clean up after Damon, when we have a house filled with servants. Or is the Luna title for glorified servants?" I spoke bluntly to Nala.

"Don't be ungrateful, little girl." Nala said, getting crossed with me. "It is by a stroke of fortune that you and I are here. We are supposed to appreciate that. You will continue doing whatever Alpha wants you to do. You CANNOT ruin this for me."

"For you?" I asked. "How? How am I ruining anything for you? Damon values you as much as I do. He's spent a longer time with you than I ever could."

"This conversation is over." Nala said, and bowed.

I didn't need to be told that she did not need me in her room anymore, so I went to the one person in whose company I always found comfort, Dathan.

"I thought you'd been restricted from coming to see your old friend?" Dathan asked, smiling sadly as I entered.

If Damon looked old, Dathan looked older.

The death of their mother was really an unpleasant catalyst.

 "Yeah." I admitted.

 "I knew it." He replied.

"Why do you now risk your life?" He asked, sitting by the piano.

I was finally able to watch Dathan play.

Somehow, Farh let it slip to Damon that I was with Dathan for the rest of the day after he ushered me out of my own wedding. And Damon seized the opportunity to bar me from getting close to Dathan's room.

"It's not a life I enjoy." I said. "You should have warned me harder."

"Don't say that." Dathan said to my surprise. I secretly hoped he hadn't switched on me and become Team Damon. "I said all I said because I was selfish, not for you. In truth, this is the best you could make of your situation. There's no redeeming the life of a servant."

 "Wow." I blew raspberries.

"Come on, Cheer Up!" Dathan encouraged. "How's today going to be? Damon has an out of two business to handle."

"He instructed Nala and I to go clothes shopping. And I also want to see a friend, well, I wish I could." I said.

"What's stopping you?" He asked me. "Oh, my bad. It just occurred to me."

"Yeah!" I agreed, and sat on his bed.
