Chapter 6 - 06. False Accusations

Audrey chuckled softly upon seeing Lucas's reaction. Her suspicion was indeed correct, the problem now was only one. Will Lucas change his decision, or not? That was a big bet.

"Just consider that I can predict something, Sir."

"Alright. Is that all you want to say?"

"Please reconsider, Sir. There's no harm in accepting me, right? I ask that you really think about it this time."

Lucas turned his head back to think. From the information that Radiuss provided him, there was indeed nothing suspicious about this woman. Is it true what Radiuss said about Audrey being a gift? Was that just part of the gift?

"Here you are. I've been looking for you who suddenly disappeared." Lewis's voice broke the silence between Audrey and Lucas.

"I was chatting for a moment with Duke Lawress. Duke, let me introduce you—"

"Nice to meet you, Duke. But I must take my fiancée back right away." Lewis quickly grabbed Audrey's hand, making the woman furrow her brow in confusion.

Without waiting for a response from Lucas, Lewis quickly dragged the woman away. Their steps were met with a sharp glare from Lucas.

"Lewis, my hand hurts," Audrey said as she managed to stop.

"Do you think my heart doesn't hurt too?"

"What? You're heartbroken just because I had a brief chat with Duke Lawress? That's so strange."

"You told your sister to wear the jewelry I gave you! You're so ungrateful for what I gave, do you think I'm a stone with no feelings?" Lewis shot back with an equally sharp look.

Audrey froze. Her steps were once again pulled toward Delima, where her parents were standing. Delima looked down while nervously playing with her skirt. Audrey's mind was filled with questions, what did all this mean?

"Explain. Why did you tell her to wear the jewelry I gave? That was a gift for you, if you didn't like it say so. Don't make someone else wear it without my permission!"

Lewis's loud voice made several people around them curious and join in watching the predicament.

"I didn't tell Delima to wear it."

"Delima said so earlier. I thought you gave her different jewelry, Audrey." Anne approached Delima to calm her down.

Jonathan? Don't ask, the man had already shot a sharp glare before Audrey arrived. "I never did that! Delima and I have different tastes, you know that. Why don't you trust me?"

"Delima, say if you're mistaken. You never liked the same type of jewelry as me, right?" Audrey pulled Delima's hand, cold sweat dampening her half-sister's palm.

"Enough, Audrey. I just want to question my dignity. Are you so resentful toward me that you would act like this?" Lewis looked at her hopefully.

"I didn't do that, Lewis. Do you not believe me either?"

"Wow, what's going on here? Why is there such a crowd?" A woman's voice made everyone bow in respect.

Audrey turned to bow as well, but before she could do that, her eyes trembled first. She felt hurt again, whether by the same person or not. But Audrey was certain this woman looked very much like the bride Lewis married!

"We apologize, Your Highness. We hadn't had the chance to greet you but already made a commotion," Jonathan said while forcing a stiff smile. His face was blushing with embarrassment, how long would he have to continue like this?

Audrey locked eyes with the young lady, it felt strange. All Audrey found was the condescending look and friendly smile of the princess. Audrey clenched her fists, her emotions boiling. With all her might, she held on to her serious face, holding back tears that seemed ready to fall again.

"I don't like commotion at my birthday party. You understand what I mean, right?"
