Chapter 10 - CHAPTER 10: Getting out of the forest

Mavis was sweating buckets and did not know what to do. She was scared to her bones, but stilled her resolve and looked up at the person in front of her.

The moment she met their gaze, she froze. She neither spoke nor did she move.

She could not see the person's face in the dark but with the feature, she knew it was a male and when she met those gleaming silver eyes of his, she clearly recognized him.He was the boy her driver hit earlier that morning.

They stared at each other for a while without uttering a single word until Mavis broke the silence."It was you..." She raised herself up in a sitting position but could not stand due to her sprained ankle.

He tilted his head to one side and asked " How can someone enter in a forest and start shouting for help. Where you chased?" . She didn't answered then he shook his head and added" I will definitely never understand how girls' brains function."

' Wait. Is that an insult?' she asked herself but could not make it out loud." Someone was chasing me." She simply said.

The boy looked left and right and then back at her" Where is that person?" He asked her." Or are you also daydreaming?"

" Are you making a fool of me? I heard a wolf's howling." She said.

" You have a serious problem." His words were hurting her but she kept a poker face." What were you even doing in the forest at this time of the night?" He asked but got no answer.

Mavis found not use to explain anything to someone who saw her as an idiot and a fool for that matter.

Things had always been like that even with her siblings. She will always be seen as a liar even though she was right. She thought in this school things might be different but it seemed like no matter the place, things don't change.

She just checked on her ankle and saw it was swollen . She took support from the nearby tree and stood to her feet.

The boy did not speak and just watched her. He knew his words hurt her but he cared less about such things. In fact, that was the least of his worries. People's feelings never mattered to him and would never do.

Her torch was no where to be seen and she left her phone in her dorm so had to manage with the moon light.

She walked passed him, limping. She did not know the way back to the dormitories but didn't want to ask him for help. If he didn't want to help then she won't ask him anything. She better got lost in that forest.

" That is not the way." He said but she didn't reply. She just turned and saw him pointing at his left but still , she did not move." You should hury. It will soon be curfew ". He added, which caused her to finally move from her position and limp to the direction indicated by him.

She then felt someone's grip on her arm. He was gripping her arm. His grip was not strong enough to hurt her but was firm enough to support her and prevent her from falling while limping.

She wanted to protest but knew that she could not make it alone out of the forest.

He started moving slowly to help her adapt to his pace.

While walking, Mavis looked at his face and noticed that the wound he once had on his forehead earlier that morning was no more. In fact, there was no trace of any injury, as if it never existed.

"Your wound... It has disappeared." She said in a low voice but audible enough for him to hear.

" I told you I was alright. You do better to concentrate on your sprain" he told her, still looking in front of him.

' How can someone heal this fast '. She thought to herself and kept quiet.

A cold wind suddenly blew, causing a few strands her long hair spread on her face and her lavender scent hit his nostril. It smelled so intoxicatingly good and he couldn't help but inhale her beautiful scent.

She used her free hand to tug her hair behind her ear.

After a few hours minutes of walk, they finally reached the end of the forest.

The silver eyed boy let go of her arm and said " I advise you to visit the infirmary before heading to your dorm".

She nodded with a small smile and said " thanks for your....." She trailed off when she noticed he was no more there. The looked left and right but saw no trace of him. He disappeared as suddenly as he had appeared to her in the forest.

She thought about thanking him the next time they meet but right now, she was happy to be finally out of that forest.

Limping, she made her way to the infirmary.
