Chapter 2 - Something new

Annabelle wasn't sure what woke her up but she sure woke up in a bad mood. Just as she passed the oval shaped mirror hanging on the wall, she halted at her appearance. Her hair was sticking out in all directions as though she had just stuck her hand in an electric socket.

Cursing under her breath and murmuring on how she hated the world, Annabelle dragged her fingers through her rough hair and it straightened a little.

Blankly, she waltzed down the stairs leisurely and then made her way to the kitchen. She met Thomas making breakfast in his usual old fashion outfit.

"What are you doing?" She scrunched her face as she sat on the dining chair

Thomas regarded her with his steel eyes. The kind of look you'd give a person who was asking a obvious look. The 'are you blind or maybe stupid ' kinda look.

Sighing, he dropped the pitch fork he was holding and gestured to the gas cooker helplessly

"What does it look like I'm doing?" He grunted

Annabelle shrugged indifferently. "It looks like you're cooking." She muttered

Thomas nodded, "Exactly, now, what the fûck are you still doing in my house?" Thomas asked teasingly

Annabelle winced at the taunt in his voice and she avoided his gaze, suddenly taking an interest on the flowered vase near the big TV.

She wasn't one to run out of words but at this moment, Thomas had a lot on her and it was better to stay quiet.

Thomas snorted at her stillness, shaking his head in wonderment, he went back to stirring eggs.

Annabelle's gaze remained fixed on the vase, her eyes seeing only what she could and wanted to see. This uneasiness, she hated it. Having to anticipate for something she couldn't point out, something she couldn't see coming.

Annabelle bit her lip softly, "damnit." She muttered softly, just as Thomas dropped a plate of bread and fried eggs in her front. Her throat bob and all her worries were forgotten instantly.

"Thank you for the food." She said cooly and dug in

Thomas watched her from his seat, his steel eyes gleaming with recognition and a hint of sadness in it's depth. "If only... Just once....." He thought achingly

"You'll get sore eyes if you stare too much." Annabelle's voice cut through his thoughts like a newly made blade making him snap out of his thoughts.

Thomas gave her an indifferent look, his steel face mask surfacing again. He stood and grabbed his trenchcoat then wore it.

"I'll be back late, eat without me." He muttered gruffly as he took his bag

"Really Uncle, you don't have to tell me twice." Annabelle said with a slight smirk making Thomas's face scrunch even more, he rolled his eyes and headed out the door.

Once the door closed, silence filled the house and Annabelle sighed as shs dropped the fork on the plate. She swept her hair back and stared ahead with a cold look on her face.

This uneasiness.... She definitely didn't like it.

~~~~~`~~~`~~~~~`~
It was exactly 01:00pm, the hour were she would relax and just do whatever, the hour were she needed no disturbance whatsoever, the hour were all she needed was peace and quiet. Her hour of sleep.
It was at this time Annabelle, dressed in a. Black hoodie with 'Death' inscribed on it and gray baggy pants, already settled on the couch with a bowl of chips, heard a knock on the door.
She frowned as she sat up, her blue eyes already on alert. She didn't need to glance at the clock for she already knew it wasn't time for Thomas to be home and definitely, the landlord shouldn't be hear and she's sure as hell she didn't order chicken yet.
So who could be knocking at her sacred hour?
Annabelle stared at the door for a while, listening as the knocking sounded again.
And also, who knocks when you could just ring the doorbell? It's 2025 not the 80s!
The uneasy feeling pricked her again and Annabelle immediately concluded that this wasn't a good sign.
With her face cold as Elsa's ice, Annabelle stood up and she walked leisurely to the door, she stood there for a while. Just as the other person was about to knock again, Annabelle jerked the door open and grabbed the first person her hand reached, pinning the person to the wall in seconds.
The person grunted in pain and immediately started yelping for help.
"I'm not a criminal you fûcking bitch, unhand me." He growled.
Annabelle hissed, her hold tightening even more on his shirt. She noted his outfit; the guy was definitely in his twenties but younger and he wore a corporate suit with a tie, his dark hair was swept back neatly and he smelt of business.
"Who are you and what do you want?" Annabelle asked, her voice on a dangerous calm
The guy gritted as he looked past her, his face already red from Annabelle's attempting choking.
"I don't hit girls Mia, tell her to let go!" He growled angrily
Annabelle who had already sensed another presence, glanced back, her blue eyes dark with warning.
"If you try anything funny, I'mma snap your boyfriend's throat." She snarled
Mia gulp when she saw the look in her eyes but immediately masked it with a nonchalant look. Her Boss was way scarier, if she didn't do this, she was T O A S T, toast.
"My name is Mia and that dork is not my boyfriend so you can please let go of him cause we mean no harm." Mia said, her voice straight and calm
Annabelle scoffed, her face showing no expression. "You guys smell like business proposals and that's harmful to my health baby." She said sassily
Mia gulped even more, her eyes glancing back at the guy who was turning even more red. Annabelle followed her gaze and she released him from her hold making the guy cough and wheez breathlessly.
"Talk, or get outta my house." Annabelle said coldly as she stood
Mia averted her gaze back to her and she cleared her throat, her professionalism kicking in.
"You're right, Miss Annabelle Wallis, I have a business offer for you. Well actually, my Boss does." Mia said, staring straight at Annabelle who still had a disapproving frown on her face.
If this people already knew her name, then they must've done research on her. She had to keep her guard up
The guy already got control of himself, he stood up, staring hatefully at Annabelle who returned the same look.
"I'm Josh, Mia's dork assistant and you're fûcking lucky I'm in a good mood tod...." Josh couldn't finish he's words cause Mia elbowed him in the stomach and he went breathless for a second.
"Fûcking....." He growled despairingly. Why were girls taking advantage of him today.
Annabelle's brows stretched in satisfaction and she faced Mia who immediately straightened up.
"You, I like, but I'm not interested in your offer. Go back to whoever sent you and tell him I decline." She said indifferently
"But you haven't heard me out yet." Mia looked confused
"I don't need to, you see that right there." Annabelle pointed at her motto she had framed up
Mia squinted as she read it 'Avoid any shit that gives you stress' She winced as though she had been bitten.
Annabelle nodded, "that's my life baby, now please get the fûck out."
Mia grimaced when she remembered her boss's words. Did it really have to come to this, she thought.
She looked up and just as she thought, Josh was already behind Annabelle who was completely unaware of the situation.
"Um.... I'm really sorry." Mia muttered softly
Annabelle's skin tingled and just she turned swiftly, Josh drove the injection into her neck and she collapsed in his arms, her face going peacefully still.
Josh scoffed as he stared at her, "She's actually pretty when not pinning someone to the wall."
Mia frowned at this. "Just get her in the car, dork." She hissed and walked out.
Josh rolled his eyes as he carried Annabelle, closing the door behind him as he went out.
