Chapter 17 - "The Divine Hero Hou Yi!"

-----

-----

Next day dawned.

The dice spun rapidly on the ground.

[You rolled: Divine Hero Hou Yi.]

[Ability acquired: Charged Strike. Power depends on the host's physical strength.]

[Duration: 1 day.]

[After use, you can roll for another deity the next day.]

Wei Yuan froze for a second when he heard that.

"Hou Yi?"

"You mean the guy who shot down the suns?"

Before he could even snap out of it, a strange voice echoed in his mind.

[Charging started.]

[Charging: 0.1%, 0.2%...]

Seeing this, Wei Yuan's eyes lit up. So that's how the ability works—Charged Strike.

Looks like the longer I charge, the stronger the hit gets.

And the power of the charged attack depends on my own physical strength.

The stronger I get, the more powerful the strike will be.

The ability lasts for the rest of the day. If I don't use it by then, it disappears.

Wei Yuan's mind was buzzing with thoughts.

He decided to go about his usual routine for most of the day, letting the charge build naturally.

By evening, a significant amount of time had passed.

[Charge: 100%.]

Wei Yuan could feel a massive energy building in his chest.

With just a thought, he could channel that power into his hands.

Since I have it now… why not give it a test run?

He stepped out of the Earth God temple and walked to the small forest outside the village.

He stopped in front of a tree so thick three people would need to wrap their arms around it to hug it.

"You'll do,"

Wei Yuan muttered, focusing his mind, charging his fist, and throwing a punch.

In that instant— A wave of explosive power surged through his right hand and smashed into the tree.

With a thunderous boom, the tree cracked and crashed to the ground with a loud crack-crack-crack.

"This… I broke it just like that?"

Staring at the thick, broken trunk, Wei Yuan's heart was pounding.

One punch to bring down a tree?

He was starting to feel like he had some real supernatural vibes going on.

Divine Hero Hou Yi—this could definitely be one of his trump cards, he thought to himself.

Then his mind drifted, unintentionally, to the white tiger from before.

He quickly realized that thought was a bit reckless.

Never mind whether a full-powered punch could actually kill the tiger, the bigger issue was whether he could even land a hit with his current speed.

He wasn't about to go looking for death. The next day, the god he rolled was the Agile Monkey God.

Without a second thought, Wei Yuan picked the ability Divine Dexterity.

"Pfft, easy." Soon enough, no matter which kind of flip it was, Wei Yuan could do it perfectly.

His body felt surprisingly coordinated.

"Guess the basics aren't that hard after all… especially with a little divine help."

With focused effort enhanced by Divine Dexterity, he mastered all the basic moves.

Not only were his movements on point, they were graceful too—like he was quickly developing the instincts of a martial arts prodigy.

"Whoa, not bad!

You picked up the backflip already?"

Wei Yuan's backflip caught the attention of Senior Brother Zhang Wu.

Everyone trained in the same courtyard.

It was pretty hard to keep things out of sight.

Seeing this, Wei Yuan quickly laughed and explained, "Haha, no way, bro. I just grew up in the mountains, climbing trees and diving into rivers every day.

Probably got more practice than most." Even though that's what he said, he made a mental note:

From now on, if he activates Divine Dexterity or similar abilities, he should train where no one can see.

Zhang Wu asked curiously, "How long can you hold a horse stance now?"

"My stamina's still kinda weak—maybe just about two quarters of an hour at most."

Although Divine Dexterity gave him crazy learning speed and helped him grasp movements fast, his physical endurance didn't magically increase just because of that.

He still had to deal with his natural limits.

"No worries.

You can build stamina over time. As long as you eat well, drink well, and sleep well, once your body matures a bit more, you'll be just fine."

"No need to rush. You're still young.

Take your time."

Zhang Wu seemed to notice some real potential in Wei Yuan when it came to martial arts.

His attitude toward him had improved a lot compared to before.

A new day came again. Wei Yuan woke up excited and immediately started his next deity roll.

[You rolled: Eye of Truth. Acquired ability: Paralysis Spell.]

"Huh? How the heck do I use this Paralysis Spell?"

Wei Yuan was baffled. All the deity abilities he got before had clear uses, but this one wasn't working no matter what he tried.

He focused his gaze, tried to channel his will, even whispered strange words under his breath, but nothing happened.

How do I trigger this thing?! Does it need eye contact?

A specific thought?

He racked his brain for a while but couldn't figure out how to activate it.
