Hey everyone! I've been getting some great messages and suggestions lately, so I thought I'd take a moment to do a short Q&A chapter to talk with you all directly. With the entire "400 Years in the Past" arc coming to a close, I wanted to ask your opinions on a few key plot points that could shape the direction of the story going forward.
Q1: Will Kai stay with Fairy Tail forever?
Answer:That was the original plan—Kai joining Fairy Tail early on made sense, especially with his ties to Natsu, Igneel, and the Eclipse Gate arc. However, recently a reader suggested something that made me reconsider:
What if Kai joined Phantom Lord instead?
This would completely shift how certain arcs play out. After all, not every major Fairy Tail arc is limited to the main guild. Some focus on other factions and broader conflicts. It opens up space for new rivalries, character growth, and a fresh perspective.
Kai's personality also isn't exactly the warm, "buddy-buddy" type, which fits well with Phantom Lord's more serious tone. And from a writing standpoint, I personally enjoy developing ideas that haven't been deeply explored in canon. This direction aligns with that.
Q2: Wouldn't that ruin his chance to be part of the Tenrou Island arc?
Answer:That's exactly why I hesitated at first. The Tenrou Island arc is incredibly important—especially with Acnologia's arrival—and Kai's entire storyline ties into dragons and the Eclipse Gate. There's literally another dragon (equal to Igneel in power) included in the plan, and Kai's presence could dramatically reshape that arc.
But here's another possibility:What if, by the time of the Tenrou Island arc, Fairy Tail and Phantom Lord are no longer enemies?
Maybe over time, the rivalry fades and is replaced with mutual respect. If Jose Porla goes through a character shift—similar to how Gajeel or Jellal did—then both guilds might agree to hold a joint S-Class Exam on Tenrou Island. That way, Kai could still participate without being part of Fairy Tail.
Would you be open to this kind of twist?
Q3: Is Jose Porla going to be redeemed?
Answer:Possibly. Fairy Tail has a history of redeeming former enemies—Gajeel, Laxus, and Jellal are prime examples. So it wouldn't be out of place to give Jose a similar arc.
A reformed Jose could rebuild Phantom Lord into a legitimate, powerful guild again. With the right motivation (and perhaps influence from Kai), he could become a complex, layered character. This also opens the door to introducing strong new recruits who shift the guild's direction.
Q4: Will Phantom Lord become important again?
Answer:That's the goal. Rather than letting the guild fade into obscurity, I'd like to re-establish Phantom Lord as a major force. Not as villains, but as respected rivals to Fairy Tail. They could collaborate on world-threatening events, compete in exams or missions, and still maintain their distinct identity.
This has huge potential during the Alvarez arc as well. If Phantom Lord regains its strength, there would be two major guilds strong enough to hold their own. I'll be honest—when reading the Alvarez arc in canon, it felt like Fairy Tail only won due to plot armor or the usual "power of friendship."
In this version, I want to avoid that. I want real, intense battles with meaningful consequences and logical outcomes.
Q5: Could Kai eventually become a guild master?
Answer:This idea actually opens up room for that possibility. If Phantom Lord transforms into a new kind of guild under Jose, and Jose eventually steps down, Kai could take over. That would allow the story to explore guild management, inner politics, and leadership dynamics—something rarely shown in Fairy Tail.
Q6: What other kinds of magic can Kai learn?
Answer:This one's a bit tricky. Magma Dragon Slayer Magic is already extremely powerful, so I don't want to give him more raw firepower. Instead, I'm looking at more subtle or utility-based magics.
Some possible additions:
Enchantment Magic – While he wouldn't reach the level of Wendy or Irene, Kai could learn basic enchantments out of curiosity.
Rune Magic – This has a lot of potential, especially since Kai's Eye could help him analyze and understand complex rune structures.
If you have any other ideas, feel free to suggest them—but please keep them logical. Kai doesn't need more destructive power, but rather strategic depth.
Final Thoughts – Your Input Matters
Here are some of the key questions I'd love your thoughts on:
Would you like to see Kai join Phantom Lord instead of Fairy Tail?
Should Jose Porla go through a redemption arc?
Would a joint Tenrou Island S-Class Exam between both guilds be interesting?
Should Phantom Lord rise again with strong new members?
Any magic suggestions for Kai to learn (non-flashy, more technical)?
