The hall was filled with so much silence that you could hear their heartbeats all over the room.
Grandmaa sat on the floor and started sobbing.
The rest of the family stood there in silence with Auntie still performing CPR on her father.
This time she did it with all her strength before she became tired.
She stopped and screamed.
Daa don't leave me!
Daa don't leave us!
Daa why are you leaving us!
Aah Daa! Aah Daa!
Are you leaving us alone like that?
Daaaaaaaaaaa!
She exited the room, mourning all over the house Shouting words like Daaaaaa.
The whole community definitely heard her mourning as she was shouting with all the voice she could master.
The other family members were still silent as if they could not believe what was happening in front of their eyes.
Kwabena walked out slowly and jumped onto his bed, tears spilling out of his eyes.
He tried to contain his tears, tried to be manly, tried to show a brave upfront but the anguish in his soul was too much him to handle as he burst into tears.
He planted his face on his bed and cried his heart out,his whole body trembling nonstop.
Maa Ataa could see his his son trying so hard not to cry but fail completely.
She wanted to console him but how could she as he was going through the same thing so she understood that her son needed to pour his hearts out.
Kwabena did not remember if he has ever cried like this since he was born.
Yes, there have been deaths in the family but when his elder sister died he was not yet born so he did not feel anything.
His youngest sister also died when it was her one year old birthday.
She died with her eyes open. Tears were falling out of her eyes but she could not cry as she could not move her mouth, her eyes or any part of her body.
That means she could not blink too.
She could feel death looming over her but she was powerless as tears came out of her eyes.
It was traumatic experience but Kwabena never cried.
He had beared insults, cained, punished but he never cried but this death of his grandpa broke him.
He remember all the good old days of him and his Grandfather.
He bought a computer with system unit for him when he was at class four, taught him all he knew including how to browse, how to install windows, how to use excel, how to install applications,he even bought wifi for him and Kwabena to use.
He remember the joy when Grandpa bought him a laptop when he got into JHS 1.
Just last month after coming from the hospital,Grandpa drove him to their family house where Grandpa lived when he was young, their farm where he worked and also introduced him to his family.
He rember Grandpa playing his favourite song in the car, singing along and dancing by clapping his hands before steering the wheel
when they were coming back home. The song was in twi language but when the first line is translated it is about God taking care of him and his family and letting them live another day. These were the words of the song not knowing that a month later he would not live to see another day.
Kwabena will never forget that song.
In fact he now sings it everday when he gets up from bed. Below are the words of the song translated into English.
If You have taken care of me and my family and let us live to see another beautiful day then I thank you x2
My soul runs like a child from the wicked.
God has saved me,he has saved me and let me free.
My soul, has run from the enemy.
God has saved me ooh.He has saved me,he has saved me,he has saved me,he has saved me,God did not let me die
Ooooh, he did not let me be ashamed.
