Chapter 2 - Well I'll be damned...

-----

XIAO ?????? POV:

When I thought of 'reincarnation', the first thing that came to my mind was all the novels and manga I'd read in my entire life. Most of them involved the MC having a crappy start, then the MC would progress, find some overpowered cheat skill and then become the strongest in the world, with some cool girl in the end or something.

The start I got was undoubtedly extremely lucky. I mean,my races were descendent of both the demons and the angels. How I knew that? Don't ask. I just knew it. Maybe it's some natural thing for everyone in this world to just automatically know the races they came from.

For a moment, after that...'thing'...covered me in dark mist,I thought of all the possible places I could wake up in. Honestly, anything could work,as long as it wasn't something extremely unlucky like the demon king's castle or some crap.

When I eventually...I don't know,'came to' or whatever, the first thing I noticed was the suffocating scent of blood in all directions. I couldn't mistake it. I was sure I knew it since it was the last thing I smelt (and tasted) before I died. That alone was a terribly bad sign.

The place I was in was destroyed to a point where it was unrecognisable. Small fires littered the the area, and tall pillars of a material I couldn't identify were collapsing over each other. From the look of everything, the destruction was still fresh, meaning that whoever or whatever did this wasn't far from here.

Great. All too freaking great.

The perfect start I was looking for.

I didn't have time to look around, though. If whatever did this was still around, then it was pretty damn obvious that I had to move the hell out of there. I did a quick check on my body, just to make sure I was alright and hadn't spawned into a body without any limbs and stuff. Based on my size and height, the body I was in was most likely five. Certainly didn't feel like it,though.

Race advantages.

I looked around and saw a body slumped on one of the few standing walls of the entire place. It was a woman. Tall,silvery-white hair, slender figure and a paled-out skin tone. Her eyes were green, but they were dulled out. She had a long gown that was covered in her own blood

On her abdomen,a huge gash had been cut open.

'Dear lord...'

I didn't know who she was exactly, bit it was obvious we were related somehow. There was a huge chance she was my mother. Damn, being brought into a world and in the first few seconds,I saw my relative's corpse...in a not-so-admirable state.

Surviving in this world was going to be very difficult.

Out of respect for her body,I took her body and had to drag it away from the place. I wasn't sure where I would put it,so I just dragged it towards the forest in a blind hope that it wouldn't be affected while it was there. The forest itself was large and dense, huge thick trees that blocked the sunlight from penetrating the dense canopy.

"Damn it,dragging a body through a forest in a world that's for sure filled with demons and monsters. What a smart choice."

Still, for some damned reason,I didn't want to leave her body there,so I kept on dragging. I tried to make sure she didn't get dirty or damaged on the way. Lucky for me,I'd found a cave that looked alright,so I decided to stay there for some time. At least until I found somewhere else to stay.

I finally had some time to think about my current situation:

-A five year old(most optimistic estimate)

-Kitsune-thing

-A random race called the 'Shai' that just meant 'nature elf'

-Unsure lf whether I had a power of any sort

-No food or water whatsoever

-Absolutely zero knowledge on the rules of the world

-A corpse that I have refused to let go of for some odd reason...

Not really optimistic,isn't it?

I sighed at the current situation and turned to look at the corpse I'd dragged back. I really had to bury it,before I started losing my sanity or something along those lines. I looked around the place and after finding a relatively soft area, used some rocks, twigs and stones to dig out an 8-foot-wide hole.

Carefully,I took the body and gently placed it in the hole before I covered it up again. I took a conveniently-shaped stone to use as a gravestone and went back to the cave. That was one problem dealt with. Now the food situation.

I looked around and saw some prints that leading out of the cave entrance. They weren't too big,and they looked similar to rabbit prints,so I followed them in hopes of finding something to eat,and not finding something that could tear me apart. The prints were fresh,so it couldn't have gone that far.

It was at times like that when I started to ask myself where the hell my 'overpowered cheat system-kun' was. I mean,I was meant to see some random status window and get a cool quest that could help me get some cool powers and stuff. I was not meant to be burying bodies and looking for a damn rabbit creature.

.....

I severely underestimated the speed at which those little devil's could run. A rabbit shouldn't be able to clear 10 metres in just one leap damn it! Just what the hell were the rabbits of this world made of?! If it wasn't for my enhanced body,I was sure I'd have died of starvation within the first 3 hours.

I managed to make a fire and roasted the thing on a stick after carefully preparing it. Luckily, the skills I'd learnt as a scout and from my parents stuck with me,so I didn't have too much of a problem.(Back on Earth, that is. Not my parents on Evolthar. I mean,my mom was dead and my dad was gods knew where.)

Without much of a choice,I finished my meal quickly and curled up in a corner to sleep, praying that I wouldn't get ambushed in my sleep. I already had a bad start, and I didn't need anything else killing in my first week.

"He is an anomaly,he cannot be allowed to live for any longer."

"I do not see him as a threat. At least, not at the moment."

"Maybe right now,but in the future, hell become a big problem for us. The fact that he retained all his memories alone is proof enough."

"So,you want to kill him because of an 'assumption'?"

"The last time we took something as a mere 'assumption',we nearly lost the entire pantheon. I am not taking my chances,Raksha."

"But-"

"That decision is final. Nothing you say will change my mind."
