Chapter 7 - A Lie or a Facade?

Bang!..

Percivals ears rang. His eyes blurry.

Disorientated, he had no idea what the outcome of his reaction would be. But as he looked towards his body, he noticed that he'd moved out of the way at the right time. The bullet that was shot from the revolver, still in the hands of the tattooed man, had only grazed his shoulder.

Percival struggled to find his footing, his body in a complete state of shock. His knees felt ad if they would buckle up and sieze at any time.

His body was in physical shock, shaking all over, as blood seeped from the wound on his shoulder.

He locked eyes with the deranged man, suddenly noticing, plastered across his was, faint, but noticable, a smile. Not the smile you'd see of a deranged man, but one you'd find on someone who's plan had gone as expected.

Percival stumbled, his vision starting to loosen.

He could now barely make out the features of the streets surrounding him, the bodies that lay scattered across the pavement. He lost his footing, and fell; blacking out completely.

Hold your gaze.. towards the future in front of you..

Percivals eyes shot open, his mind, as though a choir of disorganised symphonies, playing different songs in the same chord. Those words. The same written on sheet of paper from yesterday.

Percival couldn't help but picture the red interconnected lines, drawing out the words he had just heard in his mind.

Looking up once again, percivals eyes darted his surroundings.

The room was dark, moody, set up to give the feel of a constant moving fear. The only light in the room was the buzzing lantern above him, ocassionally going out, leaving him in pitch black for half a second.

The walls around him seemed covered in soot and mold, the aging of the room making itself apparent.

The smell corroding his nose, much worse. He sat in the middle of the room on a wood chair, sturdy but not impossible to snap if he tried hard enough. However, it was if he hadn't the strength to even try, let alone accomplish his mission.

He set his sights on the 2 doors, one to his right, and one directly in front of him. As he tried to squirm his way out of the rope binding his hands, he noticed that the graze left from the bullet was no longer visible.

No longer there at all.

Had it been that long since I was caught? Or was this some kind of fast healing medicine they gave me? Either way, I'm not going to stay caught up in this room, I need to find a way out.

However just as he had made up his mind, the latch on the door in front of him clicked.

The door creaked open, revealing a tall, fit man. Blonde hair streamed down his head like a waterfall, and his eyes glanced quickly towards percival with their light blue tinge, then back down to the floor.

He wore a black button up shirt, sleeves rolled up to the top of his forearms, with long black slacks and formal shoes.

He crept towards Percival, seemingly keeping his distance.

He doesn't seem to want to come closer, does he suspect I'm more powerful than I am? He's showing signs of fear and hesitation. Although I'm certain he could wipe the floor with me if we fought. He obviously wasn't sent here to kill me, so perhaps I can bargain with him, or better yet, try and scare him, im not.. terrible at lying. I'll use the premise that seems obvious, I'm a lot stronger than he thinks I am!

"Ahem. Kind gentleman, you seem to know your way around things, would you mind my asking what my hands are tied for? And why you seem to keep such a long distance away". Percival chuckled lightly. His voice, deeper, certain. "Regardless of how far you keep, you are not safe in this room, I'm sure you couldn't understand what abilities I possess even i told you so"

The blonde man, looked at Percival, hands lightly shaking. "I-I haven't been told much about you, just to keep an eye on you in this room, but to watch my distance from you. I don't mean you any harm, I-I promise!"

"Then I'm going to need you to untie me. Not as a request, but an order. If you'd like to see the light of the sun for another day, you won't deny my order". Firmly and confident, Percivals eyes pierced into the soul of this man, who now seemed to be weighing down his options mentally.

The man stepped forward hesitantly, seeming as if he'd jump back st any sudden movement, he directed his attention towards the rope that held Percivals hands tightly.

Good! It worked! I can't believe that worked, I guess it helped that he wasn't informed of much before he stepped into the room, that's the only reason I was able to convince him. Don't let it get to your head Percy!

The blonde man untied the knot, unknowingly setting free someone who couldn't hurt him if he tried. "There, now p-please just don't hurt me, i promise I wasn't sent here on ill intention". Stammering over his words he almost seemed to plea.

"Get home safely, I'm not going to hurt you, point me in the direction of the exit, I'll find my way from there". Percival swept his gaze from the blonde man towards the door, then back to the blonde man once again.

"If you go through the door in front of you and up the stairs ti the right, you'll come out into an alleyway, it's not far from where you were picked up.

You should know your way around once you come out the alleyway. I'm sure you're wondering why you're here, in all honesty im not sure why, i was only hired to watch over you, i dont even know the ones who hired me".

The blonde man who was shaking moments ago, seemed to calm himself down once he heard he was no longer in danger.

"Do yourself a favour, if anyone asks you what happened, let them know i was gone before you got here". Percival assured the man. "You never saw me".

The man only nodded, he felt no need for anymore words, everything that could've been said, had been.

Percival had no need to interrogate him, he sounded as if he wasn't lying when he mentioned being hired for the job. Percival climbed the stairs to right, arriving exactly where the man had said he would, although he didn't visit often, he had once tived in the downtown area, so he knew the streets quite well.

That seemed to be more than a scare tactic than an actual kidnapping. If they wanted me in there much longer they wouldn't have hired some guard off the streets. I'm certain that shot was meant to miss, although i didn't expect to end up in there. It seems to be morning, which means I was out all night. I'm not sure what time it is but I hope I'm not gonna be late to my first day at Finns! Oh no.. what would Alastair say if he saw me walk in late? I need to hurry my pace the faster I get there, the less of a punishment I'll receive.

Percival seemed to race his way to Monads Street, his pace only slowed down when he turned the corner into the street. Sitting there only a couple steps away now, was the run down bar with the half tied on sign, swinging in the wind.

Finns!

He opened the door, making his was to the stairs, the door at the bottom of the stairs shone light through the cracks sealing the door to the frame. He almost tripped in his attempt to run down the stairs.

That would have been an awkward re-enactment of the first time..

Percivals hands reached the handle, this time his hand was the one that opened the door. It creaked outwards and the table in front of him came into view.

However it was empty, unlike how it had been the previous day. Percivals eyes struck the clock on the back wall, and he realised that he was not late, rather much too early.

It's only 6am? I'm far too early! Alastair may not even be here for a couple hours now. Am I meant to just wait at the table? Play cards with myself maybe?

Percival thought for a moment, taking a seat on one of the two empty chairs, mugs still left on the table from the two who were most likely sleeping still.

Although suddenly, as if struck by an epiphany, percivals eyes lit up, the look of realisation molded into his face.

That's right! Alastair mentioned to Lisa to go to her room, they must live down here. Would it be rude to wake them at this time in the morning? Perhaps I'll just sit here at the table for a while longer and wait patiently, I'm sure they can't be that far from waking.
