The morning sun poured into the apartment, but the air felt cold.
Emma stood in the kitchen, arms crossed, waiting for Santiago.
When he finally entered, tension instantly filled the room.
"We need to talk," Emma said.
Santiago nodded. "About the case?"
"No," she replied. "About us. About Amara."
Silence.
"I told the judge I don't want to work with you anymore," Emma admitted. "Not because I hate you… but because I'm tired of being caught between your mission and your marriage."
Santiago looked away. "I never meant to put you there."
"I know," Emma said. "But you did."
Before either of them could say more, Lara burst through the door.
"They're moving," she said. "Ramírez's men. We tracked a shipment tied to Operation 27. We can intercept them tonight."
Without hesitation, Santiago turned to Emma. "We go together."
Emma stared at him for a second—then nodded. "One last time."
That night, they launched the raid. A warehouse outside the city. Ramírez's men didn't expect an ambush.
Inside, they found records. Names. Dates. Coordinates. Everything they needed to take down the remaining network.
Victory seemed near.
But just when hope surged… the judge called Santiago.
His voice was cold. Formal.
"I'm closing the corruption case," he said. "But I'm opening a new one."
Santiago froze. "What kind of case?"
"Your wife," the judge said. "We have evidence Amara was involved in falsifying medical records five years ago. She's connected to one of Ramírez's old schemes. She's going to trial."
The line went dead.
Santiago dropped the phone. His hands trembled.
Emma approached. "What happened?"
He looked at her, eyes dark with confusion and pain.
"They're going after Amara…"
