**Chapter 11: The Weight of Defeat – Servitude and Secrets** 


The sun rose over Alvannia, illuminating another day of humiliation for the **Guardians of the Dawn**. With fresh scars and wounded pride, they began their forced tasks for the **Shadows of Ambition**, who now lounged like kings. 


**Belor** and **Katherine** prepared pancakes and eggs under the sarcastic gaze of **Drake** and **Leerstrom**. 


 **Drake** (biting into a slice of bacon): *"You guys are pretty good at cooking... too bad that's all you're good for now."* 


**Katherine** (squeezing a spoon until it bends): *"Be careful what you wish for, Drake. The fire might come back to bite you."* 


**Leerstrom** (laughing): *"Oh, are we scared, singer? Your group can't even win a dishwashing competition."* 


**Drew** and **Grayrock** scrubbed soaked tiles, while **Kroft** and **Towerfall** "accidentally" made everything dirty again. 


 **Kroft** (throwing mud on the ground): *"Mission for you: make it shine! I want to see my face reflected in it!"* 


**Drew** (snarling): *"Your face is already a stain, boar."* 


**Grayrock** (deadpan): *"Stone doesn't get angry. But he's trying."* 


#### **3. Washing Clothes in the River** 


**Calley** and **Ingemar** were beating the **Shadows'** dirty clothes against the rocks. 


 **Calley** (rubbing **Glenda**'s cape hard): *"I wish that was her face."* 


**Ingemar** (smiling): *"Watch out, or we'll end up in the Cell of Shame again."* 


**Katun** (appearing behind them): *"Oh, but it was so much fun watching you locked up, you little goat!"* 


**Calley** (throwing water at her): *"Take that, you damn cat!"* 


**Glenda** (to **Leerstrom**, watching **Hardy** carry firewood): *"He's about to explode. One more push..."* 


**Leerstrom** (sharpening his claws): *"Want me to scratch his pride? Say the word."* 


**Greycastle** (intervening): *"Be careful. A cornered lion is more dangerous."* 


**Goldwine** (whispering to **Hardy**): *"The traitor is at work. I saw someone leaving their camp at dawn."* 


**Hardy** (squeezing Malbeth's parchment): *"We'll find out today. Be prepared."* 


**Strong** (to **Belor**, washing pots): *"Why are we still following Hardy?  He only leads us to defeat!"* 


**Belor** (looking at the group's scars): *"Because without him, we would have already destroyed ourselves."* 


As **Hardy** was delivering firewood, **Glenda** "tripped", knocking the pile over on top of him. 


**Glenda** (feigning innocence): *"Oops! Want some help, hero?"* 


**Hardy** (standing up slowly, with an icy glare): *"Save your help. You'll need it when I find out who's betraying my group."* 


A heavy silence fell. **Leerstrom** smiled from the sidelines. 


At dusk, **Goldwine** gathered the Guardians: 


*"The traitor met with **Leerstrom** today.  And I know who it is."* 


Everyone looked at **Malbeth** (still in the Cell?), but **Goldwine** pointed to...
