Chapter 13 - The Western Saints' Machinations

Treasures emerging are rare and unpredictable. Some beings, blessed with profound fortune, often encounter opportunities that fall from the sky.

Now, Biyun has stumbled upon such an opportunity.

The radiance displayed was in five colors, with divine light spreading across thousands of miles of the sea, and the vast divine light made the stars in the sky sway.

"I wonder what kind of treasure has emerged to cause such a commotion," Biyun muttered to himself.

Biyun's feet seemed to generate wind as he swiftly moved closer. He was extremely eager to claim the treasure for himself.

At this moment, the divine light had already spread out, and many beings had seen it. They all harbored the same intention as Biyun and rushed towards the sea where the spiritual object had emerged.

"The sea is shimmering with waves; it seems there is an extraordinary treasure. Friends, let's go and take a look," one of the beings exclaimed.

"You're right. The treasure is not far from our Golden Turtle Island. It's only fitting that it should belong to us," another agreed.

Even the cultivators on Golden Turtle Island had sensed the emergence of the treasure. They left the island one after another, heading towards the location of the opportunity.

As the saying goes, greed blinds wisdom.

Once these beings saw the opportunity, they lost their ability to think rationally, focusing only on claiming it for themselves.

While Biyun was flying away, he suddenly received another system prompt about a new mission.

[Opportunity Outside Golden Turtle Island]

[Option 1: Immediately fly at full speed to seize the opportunity. Regardless of success or failure, the reward is an Upper-grade Innate Spiritual Treasure, the Flying Tiger Banner.]

[Option 2: Hide in the shadows, wait for the right moment to strike, and prepare to take advantage of the chaos. The reward is a Middle-grade Innate Spiritual Treasure, the Wind-Gathering Bowl.]

[Option 3: Immediately turn around without hesitation and continue traveling north. The reward is five hundred years of basic cultivation, and an increase of 100 in basic formation proficiency.]

After reading these three options, Biyun felt a wave of fear wash over him.

"Claiming the opportunity is so dangerous, but there are no other cultivators around here, right?"

Biyun was very reluctant. He was the closest to the opportunity and had discovered it first.

But the system clearly warned of great danger, and he didn't dare to take it lightly.

"Playing it safe is the way to go. Opportunities and treasures are just external things," Biyun told himself, reaffirming his decision to prioritize caution. He quickly changed direction and headed north.

Just after Biyun left, another figure swiftly moved towards the location of the opportunity. He was the second being to discover it, following closely behind Biyun.

With Biyun giving up the opportunity, this became the closest to it.

He laughed maniacally with joy, his speed reaching its limit.

"Haha, this opportunity is mine. After joining the Jie Sect for thousands of years, my luck has finally turned," the being exclaimed.

A disciple of the Jie Sect, he felt that his path to enlightenment was now clear and his journey to immortality smooth.

However, as he approached the opportunity, a tremendous explosion echoed across the sea.

"Boom!"

The disciple of the Jie Sect was instantly obliterated by the terrifying blast, his body shattered into pieces and his soul utterly destroyed, leaving no trace of life.

This was no opportunity; it was a death warrant!

Hearing the noise and seeing the distant scene, Biyun felt a chill run down his spine.

"If I hadn't left in time, I would have surely met my end," he thought, hastening his retreat without looking back. He had a hunch that there must be some conspiracy at play; otherwise, how could the opportunity have appeared so conveniently in front of him?

After Biyun left, the area rippled with waves of energy. It seemed that a powerful being was lurking in the shadows. Seeing that their plan had failed, they quietly withdrew.

This place was near Golden Turtle Island, and they dared not linger under the watchful eyes of the sages.

"Unfortunately, we couldn't eliminate Biyun. I'll have to report back to my master first," the shadowy figure muttered, before vanishing without a trace.

Biyun continued to travel north, his senses on high alert. He frequently used his spiritual energy to probe the surroundings, hoping to detect any danger in advance.

Fortunately, he encountered no danger. After a brief journey, Biyun immediately turned back towards Golden Turtle Island.

[Ding, congratulations to the host for completing the mission. The reward of five hundred years of basic cultivation and an increase of 100 in basic formation proficiency has arrived. Please check it promptly.]

Biyun felt a surge of joy. This outing had not only helped him avoid the troubles with Hu Lei and Yu Yuan but also earned him a thousand years of cultivation, as well as 100 points each in the Danqing Brush and basic formation proficiency.

"I must absorb the cultivation as soon as I get back and further enhance my realm," Biyun thought happily. A thousand years of cultivation might help him break through to the middle stage of Heavenly Immortal. This breakthrough speed was indeed astonishing.

At this moment, on Golden Turtle Island, many second, third, and fourth-generation disciples were gathered together, discussing the opportunity they had just witnessed.

"Did you all see that opportunity outside the island? It was no opportunity at all—it was a death warrant!" one disciple exclaimed.

"Yeah, our third-generation disciple Qingniu met a terrible end, his soul shattered. I was right behind him and thought he had finally caught a break," another disciple replied.

"Now you're not jealous of him, right? Someone is targeting our Jie Sect," a third disciple interjected.

"Humph, this kind of thing has happened before. It must be the work of the Chan Sect disciples. It's a pity that with the great calamity already upon us, our masters forbid us from leaving the mountain," the first disciple lamented.

The disciples chatted animatedly, and Biyun, passing by, caught a bit of their conversation. He felt even more relieved.

Meanwhile, deep in the ocean, a figure swiftly flew away, heading directly to the Western Spirit Mountain. This being was the one who had orchestrated the plot against Biyun.

As a disciple of the Western Teachings, they had been secretly sowing discord between the Chan and Jie Sects, creating conflicts between them.

They had done this many times before, all to create friction between the two sects so that the Western Teachings could reap the benefits.

Now that the two leaders of the Western Teachings had discovered that Biyun had become a variable, they immediately began to deal with him, intending to eliminate this variable at its inception.

It must be said that for the sake of the Western Teachings' prosperity, the two leaders were truly hands-on. This was much better than the actions of Yuanshi Tianzun and Tongtian Jiaozhu.

They paid close attention even to minor matters like dealing with Biyun, truly putting in a lot of effort.

Inside the Western Spirit Mountain, the two leaders were delivering a lecture on the supreme Dharma.

They appeared majestic and solemn, with golden lotuses emerging from their mouths and an endless stream of profound teachings permeating the entire Spirit Mountain, purifying every believer around them.

The followers worshipped devoutly, each one immersed in the path to enlightenment.

When Zhunti Saint saw his disciple return, he exchanged a glance with his senior brother, then withdrew his Dharma manifestation to meet his disciple.

"Luli, how did it go?" Zhunti Saint asked.

Zhunti Saint had been worrying about the prosperity of the Western Teachings, and he would personally inquire about even a minor matter like Biyun.

"Master, I am incompetent. Biyun has once again escaped," Yaoshi Luli said hurriedly, his face filled with sorrow.

This was the future Medicine Master of the Buddhist faith, now a close disciple of the Western Saints, with a status comparable to that of Ksitigarbha.

"Again, no success?" Zhunti Saint's brow furrowed, and his expression became even more sorrowful.

Biyun was a variable, and Zhunti Saint had already realized this. However, he hadn't expected Biyun to be so difficult to deal with.

They dared not act openly and could only work in secret, but it seemed that eliminating Biyun was not going to be easy.

"There's no need to rush, brother. Biyun is just a mere Earth Immortal. Even if he is a variable, he can't make much of a difference. Moreover, if one plan fails, we can always come up with another. How about we try to guide him to join our Western Teachings?" Jieyin Saint said with a smile, plucking a flower and holding it between his fingers.

Hearing this, Zhunti Saint's heart was instantly enlightened.
