Chapter 1 - Chapter One : A New Beginning

The morning sun bathed the Lawson family home in a golden glow. Upstairs, in her neatly arranged room, Oma Lawson stood before a full-length mirror, adjusting the collar of her sleek, cream blouse. Her long, caramel-toned legs looked endless beneath her pencil skirt, and her natural curls were pulled back into a low puff. Her room was a subtle blend of class and personality—stacked with vision boards, soft lighting, and a vanity overflowing with her favorite perfumes.

Today was the beginning of her dream—her first day at The London Empire.

She grabbed her nude heels, applied a final swipe of gloss, and headed downstairs. Her father, Frank Lawson, sat by the dining table reading the day's paper, while her mother, Rita, laid out a healthy breakfast. Felix, her elder brother, was on the phone—probably closing one of his law firm deals. Melissa, her elder sister, flipped through a fashion magazine. And little Miles ran around the table in his superhero pajamas.

"Don't trip, Miles," Oma warned with a light laugh.

Frank looked up. "There's my girl. You look like money."

"Because I'm about to start making it," Oma grinned, kissing his cheek.

Rita gave her a quick hug. "We're proud of you, baby. Be smart. Watch. Listen."

"Slay," Melissa added without looking up.

Oma laughed. "That too."

She waved goodbye and stepped outside to meet Ann.

---

Ann Andrew's room was scented with vanilla candles and lavender sheets. She sat cross-legged on her bed, applying a winged eyeliner with laser focus. Her outfit was a soft blue pantsuit that flattered her slender figure, paired with silver heels."

Ann! Your toast is getting cold!" her mother, Lisa Andrew, called from the kitchen.

"Coming, Mom!"

She headed down, kissed her mother's cheek, and grabbed the toast.

"You sure you'll be okay?" Lisa asked.

"I'll be fine. Oma and I are going together."

Lisa smiled. "I raised a boss lady. Go own it."

With a wink, Ann was out the door.

---

At the junction, Oma's car pulled up beside Ann's. Their windows rolled down.

"Hot girls reporting for duty," Ann joked.

"Let's go shake this empire," Oma replied.

The drive was music, laughter, and nerves rolled into one. The London Empire rose ahead like a city of its own—glass, steel, elegance.

They parked side by side, took a deep breath, and walked in together.

---

Inside, the receptionist welcomed them with a tight bun and a polite smile.

"Miss Lawson and Miss Andrew. Welcome. You're expected."

They were soon introduced to Rebecca and Shalon—confident, professional, and a little too polished.

"I'm Shalon, head of Marketing," said the darker-skinned woman with sharp features. "This is Rebecca, Head of Branding. Follow us."

They toured the massive office. The women explained the hierarchy.

"The chairman is Kaine London. You don't see him unless he wants you to. Then there's his executive board, the directors, team leads, and us."

Rebecca added, "Stay sharp. This place eats the lazy."

At their desks, Oma and Ann settled in and began work. The tension was broken only at lunch.

---

Breakroom. The mean girls arrived—heels, designer fits, and resting bitch faces.

"Newbies," one sneered. "Cute outfits. Charity sale?"

Ann held her tongue. Oma gave a tight smile. "Thanks. Yours screams 'Daddy's money.'"

They walked away, heads high.

---

Almost closing time. Ann's phone buzzed.

Tessie: "Big party tonight. My man's hosting. Celebration for you girls. Don't say no."

Ann showed Oma.

"Let's make a statement," Oma said.

---

At home, they changed. The night called for goddess-level glam. Oma wore a black corset dress with slits, Ann wore a shimmering red two-piece gown.

They each drove their cars to Tessie's place. Inside, their squad was already glowing.

Mia and Regg—both in matching gold ensembles—owned the room. Mia handled hair and makeup; Regg ran the operations.

Madi was classy in a silk green dress. Juliette was already tipsy, spinning in a sparkly blue gown. Iffy looked like an architectural dream. Ether, Debby, and Pesha were dressed in bold colors, teasing each other about work. Vee had on a futuristic silver outfit—her job was digital currency analysis.

Then Tessie walked in. Red bodycon. Face beat to perfection.

"Let's go, bitches."

---

They arrived at the party in luxury cars. VIP entrance. Security let them in. The mean girls from work saw Oma and Ann and blinked in confusion.

"Wait, aren't those the interns?"

"Why the hell are they in VIP?"

"I guess they might have slept their way through"

The VIP section was gold-lit, overflowing with wealth.

Tessie took center stage and smiled. "Meet my man," she said.

He appeared. Tall. Powerful. A billionaire.

The girls were shook. After the introduction, they decided to give in to the party.

Mia and Regg soon caught the attention of two suited billionaires.

Juliette downed champagne like water and tried to twerk on a table.

Ann and Pesha were no where to be found.

Oma moved to a quieter corner, and there… she saw him.

Kaine London.

She didn't know it was him. He wore a dark suit, no tie, black shirt unbuttoned at the top. Dangerous and smooth.

"Is this seat taken?" he asked.

"No," she replied, voice soft.

"You look like a storm dressed as a woman."

"And you look like trouble."

"Only for women who play safe."

That was it. The conversation ended. The silence gave Oma so time to wonder who exactly this man was, just his presence alone is breathtaking. Conversation was ended, but that didnt mean Oma will stop staring. She only regretted staring when he noticed her again, and she realized she was staring alot. Oma being lost in her fantasy world of her and Kaine was finally awoken by the sudden chaos.

One of the billionaires insulted Ether. And he received a heavy slap in return. Everyone gasped. The music halted.

"Who do you think you are?" he roared.

"Someone you'll never afford."

The girls rose behind her.

"Back off," Madi snapped.

The drama escalated into a loud verbal war. The men didn't stand a chance. Security stepped in. And the girls had to leave the scene. There is no way, they could tolerate an insecure bastard insulting their friend.

Kaine turned to his right-hand man. "Keep eyes on the girl with the black corset dress".

The right-hand man had no option but to do so without questions, cause no one questions the devil.
