Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Immortal Desires {Part 3}

Adam, now older with longer hair and a full beard, sat before a few of his children. "...it was such a beautiful place, with all the animals and plants you could think of! In fact, I named them all," said Adam as he entertained his children with tales of Eden and all its wonders. "Father, why did we leave Eden if it was such a wonderful place?" said a young child of about 7 years of age. Adam frowned at that. Seeing this, another child of about 8 years of age smacked the 7-year-old on the back of the head. "Abel, you fool! Why would you ask such a thing! You've made Father upset!" the older boy said. Abel, the younger one, sniffled. "I hadn't meant to..." he cried. "Well, that's what you did!" the older boy snarled. "Cain, enough! Leave Abel alone. He clearly didn't mean anything malicious. It was just an innocent question," Adam said. "And the answer is...well..." Adam noticed Eve coming back from the fields with a few of their children in tow. He frowned and said, "We lost our paradise. Someone couldn't keep their hands to themselves."" Eve could hear him. "Because someone thought it would be best to do what we weren't supposed to," he said, his voice laced with venom. Eve didn't spare him a glance as she walked away. She only said, "And I remember a certain someone was the one who took the first step." She said in a straightforward manner as she walked away. Adam was about to say more, but upon seeing the worried faces of his children, he thought better of it.

This went on and on. One day, long after Cain killed Abel and even longer after the Fall of Man, the couple was old and gray. Adam and Eve were about 800 years old. The couple and some of their kids were working in the fields a few miles from home. The clouds darkened without warning. Adam looked at the sky and frowned. "We stop here for today. There is a storm coming; let us pack our things and leave." The family gathered their supplies, but just as they were about to leave, the storm came, and it struck hard. The family faced a tough situation. The nearest shelter was far away, so they had to keep going through the storm. As they were walking, the storm only got worse. Eve, worried about her kids, glanced around to ensure they were all with her. Then, she noticed a small group of trees. Eve's eyes brightened, as the canopy of the trees would provide them shelter. "Adam, there are a few trees up ahead! Let us take shelter there!" she said. "No! We forge on! We are close to the shelter we built! If we delay any further, the storm might get worse!" Eve frowned. "But Adam-" she was cut off. "Eve! For once do NOT question my authority! We forge ON!" Adam snapped. Eve was surprised at his outburst. She had a bellyful of complaints, but she decided to bite them back. Reaching shelter was far more important at the moment.

They continued on their way. Unfortunately, as they neared the shelter, one child slipped in the mud. He fell and hurt his leg. The child cried out in pain, and Eve, upon hearing the cry, turned back. She quickly ran to the child and carried him. She walked back to the group, but the ground beneath them became unstable. Eve, seeing this, quickly called one of the older children and threw the child in her arms to her. Just as the older child caught the younger, the ground beneath Eve's feet gave way, and she fell into a large pit. The fall caused her to injure her leg. She groaned as she struggled to stand back up; she failed. "ADAM! MY CHILDREN! HELP ME!" she screamed. Hoping they would hear her. Above the ditch, Adam and the rest of the children looked back at the ditch. Some children tried to get near the pit. Each time they got close, lightning hit the edges. This kept them from getting any closer. "Leave her! We have no time; the storm is getting worse! If we don't leave now, we might end up like her!" Adam said, much to his children's shock. "But father—" one of them began, but they were cut off by Adam. "I said LEAVE HER! She's a lost cause! Don't question me, or I'll abandon you as well!" he said, shocking the children even more. Some ignored him and tried to get close to the pit again, but lightning struck again, stopping them. "You see? The lightning only strikes when we try to save her! This must be the will of the Almighty! Now let's go," Adam said. With tears in their eyes, the children followed Adam away from the pit and close to the shelter.

In the pit, Eve could not hear what Adam and her children were saying clearly. But she did notice the voices getting fainter and fainter. 'No, they wouldn't,' Eve thought to herself. "ADAM! ADAM! MY CHILDREN! DO NOT FORSAKE ME! ADAM!" she yelled, but she received no response. She couldn't believe it, they...they....No! It must be something else! Maybe they were getting something to help free her. But the more she thought, the more it seemed they weren't coming back. 'They abandoned me. He abandoned me,' Eve thought to herself. She curled into herself and wept. She cried until her tears ran dry. Yet inside, betrayal, sorrow, and anger surged. Their force felt stronger than the storm outside. She looked up. The pit was too slippery and too steep to climb, not to mention her injured leg. She sighed once again. Then, suddenly, the rains stopped. Which was odd, because Eve could still hear the sounds of the storm. She looked up abd saw a black, translucent.... something covering the opening of the pit. Eve had never seen anything like it. "It's a barrier, very convenient, isn't it?" said a strange voice. "Who's there! Whoever it is, please, help me!" Eve pleaded. "What do I have to gain from doing that, hmm?" the voice questioned in a playful tone. 'My gratitude,' Eve almost replied, but then she realized something. "Show yourself." She said. "As you wish." Said the voice. The shadows in the pit swirled together. They formed a dark figure. It had no features, just two empty white eyes and a mouth. When the shadow appeared, Eve threw a rock at it. The rock went right through the figure without causing any harm. "YOU! I'd recognize that voice anywhere! You're the one that tricked me! You're the serpent! It's your fault all this happened in the first place," Eve said, furious.

"Is it really my fault though? After all, all I did was inform you about the fruit and what it could do." The shadow said innocently. "Don't you play coy with me! I know you wanted to trick me into eating the fruit for whatever reason! This is your fault!" Eve said and threw another rock at the shadow. It passed through harmlessly. The shadow smirked. "Alright, I'll admit it. I did try to trick you into eating the fruit, but you saw through it, didn't you. Infact, not only did you see through it, you tried to use it to your advantage. You tried to manipulate Adam with it, to threaten him into treating you as an equal. You never planned to eat the fruit. You just wanted to scare Adam. You hoped this would make him treat you better. I must say, that was incredible." Eve frowned at that. "Not many see through my deception, but you did; in fact, you wanted to use my deception as a means to get what you wanted! Sadly, you didn't expect Adam to eat the fruit. When he did, you had to join in to keep the act going! While your plan backfired, it's the effort that counts. Well done! I cannot possibly take the glory for such a scheme. I think that glory is all yours!" the shadow said before laughing a bit. "Oh, what does it matter? I failed, and I ended up right where I wanted to run from," Eve said as she sat back down and sighed. "What do you want? Are you here just to see me suffer?" she said after a moment. "While your suffering is amusing, that's not why I'm here. I'm here for you. I want you to join me. It's not every day I come across someone whose intelligence is this high." Eve laughed at that. "So, you've come to me at my darkest moment to convince me to join you? When I realistically don't have any better options?" Eve scoffed. "You honestly think I can't tell this storm is your doing? That this pit that appeared out of nowhere is also your doing? Their appearance was too sudden to be natural," Eve said. "Well, you missed one thing; I also made that copse of trees you saw earlier." The shadow said with an eerie smile.

Eve just laughed. The shadow then added, "Be warned, if you go with me, you will be rejected by the Almighty." Eve rolled her eyes. "He already has." She stayed silent for a bit. "Fine, I'll go with you, but first, can I see your face?" she said. "Fair enough." The shadows dissolved, revealing the figure's true form. Immediately, Eve tried to slap him, but the figure, though surprised, caught her hand. He grabbed her waist and pulled her closer to him. "You're feisty for a frail 800-year-old mortal." The figure laughed. "Let's just get this over with," Eve said. The figure smirked and kissed Eve's forehead. This sent a wave of demonic energy into her. It filled her up and brought back her youth. Her grey hair changed back to honey-colored, and her wrinkled skin felt smooth again. She felt... strange and powerful at the same time. "Your transformation isn't complete, but this will do for now. How do you feel?" the figure asked. "I feel... reborn," Eve said. "Well, then, this calls for a new name." The figure said. "First, give me yours," said Eve. The figure smirked. "Lucifer. Lucifer MorningStar. And you are now Lilith," Lucifer said. "Lilith. Lilith MorningStar. That sounds wonderful, don't you think?" Lucifer smirked. "It sounds splendid."

"You were so different back then so—" Leviathan is cut off by Lilith's glare, which sends chills down his spine. "Say one more word about my past, Leviathan, and the next to go to the Planes of Damnation won't be a human sinner. It will be you." Or maybe I'll just take away your ability to mimick others. Forcing you to stay in that form you hate so much." Leviathan immediately bows. "Forgive my insolence, my Queen." Lilith sneers. "Get out of my sight and get ready. The others will be here shortly." As soon as she finishes her sentence, Leviathan teleports away. Lilith sighs and reclines back into the throne. She opens her palm and a glowing feather appears. "Soon, very soon." She says to herself.
