"This is the Sharingan!!!"
In the mirror, a handsome little boy reached up hesitantly to touch his eyes. Ignoring his appearance, Rong Lin focused entirely on his eyes—a pair of double tomoe Sharingan.
"Am I dreaming?"
Closing his eyes, he shook his head and reopened them, only to freeze again. This time, instead of the Sharingan, a pair of Byakugan stared back at him.
The same name, the same combination of Byakugan and Sharingan—it was exactly as he had designed the character. Rong Lin's mind spun dizzily. And then it hit him—aside from the Byakugan and Sharingan, there was also that absurd Kekkei Genkai!
Born with the ability to manipulate time and with no limits on upgrading the Sharingan and Byakugan.
If all these abilities were concentrated in one person, they would become the "monster" he had described earlier!
This realization sent a chill down Rong Lin's spine.
Staring at his reflection in the mirror, Rong Lin focused his thoughts. The Byakugan vanished, replaced by a single tomoe Sharingan. Sure enough, he could switch between the two eyes at will. His excitement surged—he wasn't stuck with one eye being a Sharingan and the other a Byakugan. Just imagining that scenario was horrifying enough.
But could he suppress one ability while simultaneously using both?
Hunger forgotten, Rong Lin immediately began experimenting. It didn't take long for him to discover something astonishing: not only could he switch between the Sharingan and Byakugan freely, but he could also maintain one active while retaining the latent abilities of the other.
For example, when he activated the Sharingan but suppressed the Byakugan, the latter's abilities—such as near-360-degree vision and the power to see through objects—remained intact.
Uh... Suddenly, Rong Lin noticed something extremely awkward. His neighbor seemed to be engaging in some late-night activities. "Avert your eyes, avert your eyes," he muttered guiltily to himself. "Forgive me, forgive me—I didn't mean to peek."
After consoling himself, Rong Lin felt even more thrilled. But his excitement was short-lived. Soon, a sharp pain shot through his eyes, forcing him to stop. The Byakugan deactivated, leaving only the Sharingan active, and the pain subsided.
It seemed that using both abilities simultaneously placed a heavy strain on his eyes. He'd need to be careful about this in the future.
In the mirror, a faint smile crept onto Rong Lin's lips. "So I really am a monster... but I like it."
Though he hadn't yet sensed the so-called Time Manipulation Bloodline, the existence of the Byakugan and Sharingan reassured him. It wasn't that he couldn't feel it—it was just that his strength wasn't sufficient yet. Rong Lin believed that as he grew stronger, mastering the bloodline ability was only a matter of time.
"Gurgle, gurgle..."
An unwelcome growl from his stomach reminded him of his hunger. Putting aside his excitement, Rong Lin picked up a loaf of bread and began devouring it hungrily.
After eating his fill and resting for a bit, Rong Lin started practicing chakra control.
Early the next morning, after a bout of self-deprecating thoughts, Rong Lin slung his small backpack over his shoulder, grabbed a loaf of bread for lunch, and left his dilapidated wooden hut, heading toward the ninja academy. If it were up to him, he wouldn't set foot in that place—he was nearly thirty, forced to attend classes with a bunch of kids. It wasn't exactly a pleasant experience.
"Are you okay from yesterday?"
As soon as he entered the classroom, Obito approached him with genuine concern. Rong Lin's reaction the previous day had been strange, and since Obito sympathized with him due to their shared misfortunes, he couldn't help but ask.
"I'm fine, just a bit tired," Rong Lin replied nonchalantly, shaking his head.
"Rin..." In the next moment, Obito's expression immediately changed. The reason was simple—the girl he liked had walked into the classroom. Rong Lin rolled his eyes inwardly, thinking this guy was beyond redemption.
Still, the children of the Naruto world matured early. At just five or six years old, they already understood feelings of affection. Back in his previous life, kids that age were either running around behind their parents' backs or causing mischief everywhere.
To be honest, Rin had her share of fans in the Naruto universe, but Rong Lin didn't think she was particularly beautiful—cute at best.
Then again, beauty was subjective. Obito was completely smitten, though describing a child as such felt odd.
Despite Rong Lin's bizarre behavior the day before, no one paid much attention to him anymore. After all, he was already an outcast at school.
The classroom quickly descended into chaos. It was futile to expect a group of children to remain quiet. However, there were exceptions. Rong Lin, with his adult mindset, couldn't bring himself to join in the playful antics, and Kakashi Hatake sat stoically in his seat, arms crossed, watching the others with an indifferent gaze.
Surprisingly, quite a few girls found Kakashi's aloof demeanor attractive—including Obito's crush, Rin.
"The teacher's here!!!"
One shout silenced everyone. Bonchino wasn't known for his patience among the teachers, and anyone caught under his scrutiny was in for trouble.
Carrying his textbook, Bonchino entered the classroom and was pleased to see everyone behaving properly. At least he still commanded respect among the children. Subconsciously, his gaze fell on Rong Lin, who appeared relieved along with the others—as long as he wasn't sleeping, Bonchino decided to let him be.
Muttering to himself, Bonchino stepped up to the podium, opened his textbook, and announced loudly, "Class, today we'll learn..."
Though the lessons at the ninja academy covered basic material, Rong Lin listened intently. At this point, he was like a blank slate, eagerly absorbing knowledge to fill the gaps in his understanding. Despite bearing the Uchiha name and having ties to the Hyuga clan, neither family acknowledged him. To grow stronger, Rong Lin knew he needed to study diligently.
Great buildings rise from solid foundations, and Rong Lin wasn't foolish enough to believe that possessing unlimited-upgrade Sharingan and Byakugan meant he could ignore everything else.
"You want to enter the school library to study?"
Bonchino was in a good mood today. Everyone had behaved well, including the troublesome Uchiha Rong Lin, who had been surprisingly attentive during class—no mischief, no sleeping, just focused listening. For this student, Bonchino had always adopted a hands-off approach. If not for the Third Hokage's specific instructions, he might not have accepted Rong Lin at all.
After class, as Bonchino prepared to return to the faculty office, he was surprised to see Rong Lin approach him with a changed attitude.
"Yes, Teacher Bonchino. I apologize for my past behavior."
"No, no need," Bonchino stammered, feeling unexpectedly flattered. How had this child changed so drastically overnight?
