Chapter One:
The Annoying Phone Call: A Tale of Chaos and Mayhem
Mia's peaceful morning slumber was shattered by the incessant ringing of her phone. "Who's behind this heinous crime?" she muttered, scrambling to find the culprit device under her pillow.
As she gazed at the screen, her heart sank. It was Henry, her well-meaning but annoying friend. "Oh no, not him again!" she groaned, already anticipating the chaos that would ensue.
With a sigh, she answered the call. "Hello, Henry. What's the earth-shattering news you have for me today?" she asked, her voice laced with sarcasm.
Henry's serious tone sent a shiver down Mia's spine. "Mia, where are you? Please tell me you're not still in bed?"
Mia's eyes widened as she gulped her saliva. "Why do you sound so serious? Are zombies taking over the world or something?" she thought to herself.
Henry's next words made her heart skip a beat. "Get to campus ASAP and submit your project. It's due today!"
Mia's world came crashing down. "Project?! What project?! You mean Professor Alex's project? But the deadline is tomorrow, isn't it?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Henry's response was like a dagger to her heart. "Check the group chat, Mia. We're submitting it today. Like, right now."
Mia's reaction was a mix of shock, panic, and a dash of crazy. "WHAT!!!!!! You can't be serious! I'm going to kill you, Henry!" she yelled, jumping out of bed in a rush.
In her haste, she slipped and fell hard, landing with a thud. "AHHHHHHH!" she groaned, clutching her knees in agony.
Henry's concerned voice came through the phone. "Mia, are you okay? I heard a noise!"
Mia took a deep breath, trying to compose herself. "I'm fine... just slipped, that's all." She struggled to get up, still feeling the pain.
Henry's next words were laced with amusement. "You're welcome, by the way. I called to save your skin, and this is the thanks I get?"
Mia's anger boiled over. "Thanks? You call this thanks? Every time you call, two things happen: I get injured, and my day is ruined! You're like a human version of Murphy's Law!"
Henry's laughter echoed through the phone, making Mia's anger simmer even more. "Hahahahahaha! Oh, Mia, you're so funny! This is killing me!"
Mia's response was icy. "You better shut up, Henry. Just shut up."
Henry's laughter ceased, replaced by an obedient "Okay, okay. I won't say a word."
Mia's parting shot was a growl. "I'm on my way to campus. Buzz off, Henry!"
With that, she hung up the phone, still fuming, and rushed out of the house to face whatever chaos the day had in store for her.
As Mia arrived on campus, she took a deep breath to calm her racing heart. She had been looking forward to finally submitting her project, but Henry's annoying phone call had thrown her off. She tried calling him back, but he wasn't answering. "What the heck?" she shouted, trying again and again, only to be met with the same automated message.
Her frustration boiled over, and she found herself muttering out loud, "Why is he not answering my calls? What am I supposed to do now?" She looked around, feeling a bit lost, and wondered if she should try submitting the project personally or wait for Henry to come around.
Just as she was about to give up, an idea struck her. "Ah-ha!" she exclaimed, her eyes lighting up with excitement. Her loud outburst caught the attention of passersby, who couldn't help but stare at her with a mixture of confusion and amusement. Mia's face turned bright red as she realized her mistake, and she quickly scurried away, her head hung low in embarrassment.
Once she was out of sight, she let out a sigh of relief and scolded herself, "What's wrong with me? So embarrassing!" She took a few deep breaths to calm down and refocus on her task. "Right, my idea!" She pulled out her phone and checked the group chat, where she finally found the information she needed. "Thank God!" she exclaimed, feeling a wave of relief wash over her.
According to Henry's post, the project was due at the faculty basement by 12 pm. Mia glanced at the time and saw that she had just enough time to make it. "Okay, there's still time!" She quickly made her way to the basement, her heart racing with anticipation.
As she arrived, she spotted Henry standing with his back to her, chatting with their classmates. A sly grin spread across her face as she crept up behind him. The others noticed her approach and tried to stifle their giggles, but Henry remained oblivious.
Mia's eyes sparkled with mischief as she raised her hand, ready to deliver a playful tap on Henry's head. But just as she was about to make contact, Henry suddenly turned around, sensing something was amiss. "What's wrong?" he asked, his eyes narrowing suspiciously.
Alice, their classmate, quickly intervened, distracting Henry with a question. Mia seized the opportunity, and with a swift motion, she delivered a gentle tap on Henry's head. "Ouch!" Henry yelped, clutching his head in mock pain.
The group erupted into laughter, and Mia couldn't help but join in. "This is what you get for all the trouble you put me through today!" she teased, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
Henry's face turned bright red as he glared at Mia, but he couldn't stay mad for long. "You're crazy, Mia!" he exclaimed, shaking his head in exasperation.
As they all continued to laugh and joke around, Logan reminded Henry to submit the project. Henry quickly took the opportunity to escape, and as he hurried away, the group burst into laughter once more.
As they watched Henry disappear into the distance, Alice turned to Mia and grinned. "You're a genius, Mia! I'm stealing that move for next time!" Mia chuckled, feeling a sense of satisfaction at having gotten her revenge. "Anytime, Alice. After all, someone's got to keep Henry on his toes!"
