Chapter 4 - 4. Prisoner

Lightning crackled over a cloudy sky as the sound of heavy raindrops hitting wooden floors reached Julius' ears.

He opened his eyes to see himself lying down in what seemed like a cage. He struggled to sit up, and then he looked at his hands to see that there were shackles on them.

"What the...?" He frowned as he observed the cage.

He seemed to be in some kind of basement, with huge barrels stacked to one side.

He looked at the cage beside his own to see a tall-looking man with a full black beard, and the man seemed to be staring at him too.

"Um, excuse me?" he called out to the man sitting in the other cage, and a pair of silvery eyes flashed in the darkness.

'He wasn't looking at me before?' Julius thought with a frown, and then he calmed himself and proceeded.

"Where are we exactly?" he asked, and the man looked to the side.

"In my ship. The madmen brought you from another ship they took over. I'll just tell you to keep quiet and not disturb the others," the man said in a hoarse voice, and then Julius sat down.

He had to calm himself down.

A few days ago, he was just a cripple in a wheelchair trying to get about his daily life—now he was in a mystical trial created by some kind of god in a world similar to the one he wrote.

He relaxed in a corner of the cage and just stared at the barrels.

The sound of water dropping from the ceiling resounded in the basement, and just then, Julius heard the sound of paper fluttering. He looked up to see a golden paper with black words written on it.

He knelt down and grabbed the paper, and he read it.

[Your story has bloomed.

Scenarios 0/6

1st scenario ongoing]

[Scenarios clearing requirements:

Find and kill the godsworn]

Julius frowned at the paper in front of him and then put it to his side.

'Haha, why did I suddenly remember wanting a life in a fictional world?' he chuckled and looked up with a mocking smile.

If there was one thing he had always wanted, it was to be some kind of hero in a world of myth and be surrounded by beautiful girls.

But the world he entered was wicked and dark—fucking dark.

The Evernight sent people into scenarios. Those who completed these scenarios came out with blessings and abilities which they used to fight the crawlers.

And now he was one of such aspirants. A story challenger...

"Hahahaha..." He laughed quietly as he let out a breath.

His situation wasn't entirely hopeless. He could survive—he just needed to get himself together.

'A human's ability to adapt has always been one of the greatest.' He raised his head up, and as if in that instant, another golden paper appeared before him.

[You have received two partial blessings.

Partial Invisibility | Script Perspective

Partial Invisibility – You can make objects you touch invisible.

Script Perspective – You can glimpse at the true nature of a person, item, or an event.]

After reading what was on the paper, a golden light flew into his body. He let out a breath and began to make a plan.

In a scenario like this, he needed to know what his role here was, first of all. The master at the sanctuary would've explained to him what he should've done, but his trial was an immediate one.

He had to do this on his own.

Looking at the silver metallic shackles holding him, he twisted his hand and grabbed the chain. With a will, about an entire metre of the chain vanished, and the part where it stopped vanishing floated in mid-air.

He smiled at this partial invisibility ability.

It was almost useless, as it had no combat applications whatsoever. He sighed and focused on his other skill.

'See the true nature of a person.' He frowned as he turned to the guy in the other cage and focused his ability.

[Name: Skull | Age: 35

Race: Human | Role: Blessed

Blessing: Echo Perception

Note: A man with a good heart. Leader of the Vikings of Valcrest and the best swordsman fighter in the village.]

Julius frowned as he read the words that floated in front of his eyes, and then he flinched.

'This... isn't this actually overpowered?' he questioned, as he was able to read the information of things he looked at at will.

He quickly relaxed himself and began to explore other aspects of the abilities he was given.

Julius panted as sweat drops formed on his forehead, and his hand limped, causing the rattling of chain as it hit the ground.

'Shit.'

Turns out that the more he used it, the weaker he got. He couldn't sense any of the mystical energy that Wardens had talked about in the newspapers—it was as if he was sacrificing his own stamina to use the power.

He had never heard of this before.

Also, the Script Perspective ability was only limited to humans and items so far. He had no idea how to 'look' at events, so he left that last function.

The partial invisibility he had also wasn't too practical, as he could only make about one and a half metres of chain invisible without tiring out.

Maybe if he practiced, he might be able to do more.

'I'm so tired,' Julius thought silently as he yawned and his eyes grew heavier.

'What a great thing, to fall asleep in a fucking nightmare.'

Clank!

The sound of a metallic door being banged woke Julius up, and he glanced up to look at the intruder.

The man was a built man who was taller than regular humans, being 2 feet taller and having arms the size of logs.

The giant man had an eye patch, and a metallic bowl cap with horns rested on his head.

He wore a strap on his bare body, which showed pure muscle, and a skirt made of animal skin that nearly reached his knee. Boots made of leather were on his big feet.

The man directly walked over to his cage and then stopped at the cage of the man next to him. Skull sat up and looked at the man with his beautiful silvery eyes, and the man spat in the cage and walked to Julius' own cage.

"So you're the jester Bern captured. You better be able to entertain the crew tomorrow—we're having an esteemed guest coming over." The man's deep voice came through, and Julius' nose twitched as he endured the stench of the man's breath from where he was.

"Did you hear me? If you prove useless to us, we'll just feed you to the sharks." The man put on a creepy smile, and then Julius shook his head.

"N–no need for that. Of course, I'll entertain this Barn guy," he swallowed.

'I'm so screwed.'
