Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 : Risk

Lucian scanned the area, it was bustling with activities, he could clearly see dim lights which represented torches and lanterns being held by guards, nuns and scholars.

Although he could see clearly, he still needed to get a high vintage look in a more aerial position.

Buildings and stacks of sandbags were littered everywhere at the entrance area, this was a makeshift defense of the templars, it was an abandoned placebo.

By the sides were mobile watchtowers, held by crude machinery, it was attached to the walls around the templar garrison, moving by the walls gave the watchmen the aerial view Lucian needed.

Both of the watchtowers were located to face each other while being stationed across the garrison, they moved sideways till they meet at the end of the garrison.

He jumped to the top of a building and darted towards the watchtower by silently jumping from building to another.

The Gears of the watchtowers clunk in unition as they begun their night march, Lucian leaped to the right watchtower as that was the one he had been approaching ever since.

Grabbing onto a wooden beam which supported the wooden posts he felt air resistance roughly hit against body, it bothered him little.

His fingers slid down the slant position of the X placed beams, he held down on the wood and launched himself unto the upper support beam.

Lucian's hair fluttered in the wind, he quickly counted the beams he would have to climb to reach the top, they were seven of them.

His muscles were already tearing up from the force of leaping to greater heights, by no means was his natural strength going to aid him in leaping onto seven more.

[ Technique Activated : Primordial Enhancement ]

Blood Pumped through his body like adrenaline, his tearing muscles tightened and bulged, his senses attained another level of enlightenment.

But all came with a price.

* Sigh *

He just wished he was like when he was in his younger days, does days every single one of his techniques were always activated without taking a toll on his body.

Without the enhancement he was already inhumane but with it, he was a juggernaut.

The beam creaked under his weight threatening to collapse under his power, * Boom *, He exploded to the next support beam.

And in an instant he moved again but this time skipping three beams with minimal effort, successfully he had only two beams remaining

With the increasing velocity of the watchtower he enhanced his eyesight to see through the wooden base which the watchman stood.

' A single man, convenient ' he mumbled.

* BOOM *

A violent clash erupted a shockwave which travelled through Lucian's body, stunning it temporarily.

" Woah!!! That clash was epic " he heard the watchmen exclaimed in awe, the newly recruited templar said to senior watchmen.

" Wait a second, Kid, you were enjoying the ride instead of performing your duties, a few strokes would put you in place " his superordinate said.

The young templar overlooked his superior's words and overlooked the garrison with a smile on his face.

* Crank * Crank * Crank * Bang *

The noises made from the turning gears which controlled the movement of the watchtower resounded through the garrison.

However it hid something.

Something jaw clenching.

" I was looking out boss, I am… " the templar trailed off, his mind trembled with confusion, he saw his boss hanging on the rails which protection personnels from falling of the watchtower.

A hole lay in his head, taking the living essence away from his being.

The recruit watched in awe as the watchtower started it's drift far away from his, it was then he felt it.

A breath.

Not from a beast, No.

But from a human.

He turned and saw it, gleaming like the spark of a dying star, it penetrated.

Like the cold bells of judgment.

Quickly, he couldn't even discern the face of his killer, he couldn't even think at all, his head slowly slid down his neck and his body dropped with a low thud.

Lucian swung his blade to wipe of the blood and turned to the garrison.

It was filled with numerous stone built buildings created so close together, it formed an easy distinguishable maze, but don't let the word easy fool you.

Lined up sand bags were also kept meticulously, it was as if the templars were expecting an attack when building the garrison.

He sheathed his blade and abruptly dropped to his knees, blood platelets trailed down his lips as he released a violent series of coughs.

' The Techniques Side effects, if I waste any more time, I could be crippled.'

A grunt escaped his lips.

[ Technique Activated : Photographic Memory ]

Lucian rose and dived into the garrison, slowly fading away with the dark night.

________

Gently wind brushed through the flames of a lantern, it was held by a group of nuns who were returning from an evening mass.

They too lived in the garrison all for the fear of their lives, haters of the church were everywhere, even in the church itself, hence they had to be extremely cautious.

As the traversed through the night, bathe chatted away all their fears, until a particular young nun raised an interesting topic.

" Being a nun isn't easy " she began rubbing lightly against the beads of her rosary, " It had never been " an older nun replied, " I just wonder what puts the scholars over us. " She continued.

" I mean Arvino Bercort, genuinely I was shocked when he was made the templar treasurer, after all he has done to us, this is unfair " She voiced.

" Quiet child, do you not know, the templar guards don't appreciate ill speaking against their scholars " the oldest nun shunned.

" Sorry sister, I just taught it would be heard if I speak about this injustice, I mean, promoted to live in the Bem Salva district when all he did was boss us around? " She said rhetorically.

The nuns let silence wash over them as they continued their walk before changing the topic entirely.

Unbeknownst to them they had just saved their heads, Lucian came out of the darkness, his tachi dripping with fresh blood, " Bem Salva, huh, it's time for an upgrade " he said.

His head ached and he couldn't concentrate properly, his muscles spasm regularly yet he held on.

" Prince of Darkness, Sovereign of Night, Peaceful yet insidious, Cunning Evil merged with Devilish Might, Blend into Reality, Twist in Dimensions, Show Adversaries the Usefulness of Presence Undying Speed. "

Instantly he dispersed into a cloud of darkness.

Reforming himself from the darkness he felt his numb limbs come to life, noises echoed through his ears and he dropped behind a dwarf wall of sand bags.

" Secure the perimeter, hold your blades fast, the witch has seen " a knight said to the squad of guards behind him as they walked past Lucian.

Wiping his sweaty head he stood and climbed to the building top, he looked around till he noticed an area in the west obscured by scenery shrubs and plants.

It was brightly illuminated, quite the contrast to the rest of the garrison, Lucian noted this and speed of in it's direction.

Enhancing his speed and agility to the extent he was merely the blur of a shadow, he reached the district and charged forward.

However he tilted his head to avoid a spear's thrust just as he was about to step foot into the district.

He had been caught.
