Synopsis
Freedom. God, I fucking love it. That rush—when anything feels possible. When the whole damn world fits in your palm. When every chain snaps, one by one. Take what you want. Do what you want. Live how you want. I’m Sen—just Sen. Though my teammates call me The Vermilion Bird. Pretty badass, right? So yeah, I might’ve just stolen a little something. An artifact. A big one. Big enough that the Church of Order slapped a hundred million bounty on my head. Cute, right? I feel a little insulted. Now these guys are chasing me like I'm some sort of villain. It's for the greater good, I swear. But I don’t care. The novel? I tore up the script ages ago. The government? They can’t touch me—not with the Oskar's Guild at my back. The “main cast”? Please. I'm in the main cast now. The world’s a blank, white canvas. And I’ll paint it in whatever the hell I feel like. “Watch this, nerds!” I held tightly on the deep, crimson match that veiled my appearance. I swung off the rooftop, wind howling in my face, my eyes locked onto the blur of traffic below. "Close call." 'Time to disappear again.'

Chapter 1 - Ch1 - The Oskar's Guild's Vermillion Bird.

Heaven's Chained, a rare class of awakeners that have immense strength in exchange for a flaw or a weakness.

Hundreds of these types of awakeners have been slaughtered for a multitude of reasons, but mostly due to their most common flaw.

Insanity.

Almost 86% of Heaven's Chained deals with this weakness in exchange for their strength.

Most rebels and notorious villains are known to be a Heaven's Chained; massacres and revolutions have been carried out by them time and time again.

Oskar Schindler, he was an industrialist–a capitalist pig who did anything for money.

However, he became a man who saved around 1200 Jews during WWII.

That's where our name comes from, our dear leader on a mission to save as many of these Heaven's Chained as he can.

Well, those in the 14% and those he can change.

"Vermillion!"

"Huh?"

A stern voice rang out, his voice hearty and deep yet it was filled with quiet compassion.

He was our leader, Codename: Oskar.

He looked like a relatively normal man; he had long black gloves that covered his hands.

A power deeply hidden, swirling inside his fingertips.

Every step he took reflected himself, steady yet gentle strides that radiated nobility as his movements seemed almost perfect, too fluid–too practiced.

He had short blackish-brown hair with bits of silver gray reflecting his age and deep hazel eyes that seemed to carry much burden; he held a sort of aura of authority as if you knew this man was a leader of some sort.

"A mission just came up. It's last minute, you're the only person fast enough to get there in time. An entire truck of Heaven's Chained is heading to an auction house."

"Ugh, alright."

He chucked a small bright little device at me; it seemed completely out of this world as when mana flowed through it a small hologram of information appeared before me.

It shone in bright blue very obviously depicting a truck that was dashing across the roads, it even gave me it's relative location.

I grabbed a hold of the mask that was swinging on my hips, it was a black visor-like mask with red outlines on the sides that stretched upward along the black almost like feathers.

My clothes screamed nobility as I had a bright, crimson noble-like shirt, I got it while visiting China.

My deep, dark vermillion jacket that was relatively short in length, this one I got from Europe and my black pants that I uh just found in my closet.

I slung across the trees. Our base was relatively deep in the forest. A trail of red flowed behind me like a ribbon as I dashed across the landscape.

This was my Unique Skill, Neverending Advance.

I kicked off the air as if it were a hard surface, the tendrils of crimson mana trailing behind me as I cut through the air with ease.

Flames danced around my feet wrapping them in tendrils of crackling fire, twisting and turning it launched me forward in a burst of flames.

[Fire Magic: Flame Burst]

My wings of vermillion erupted out my back, feathers of deep red falling to the floor like paper, they slowly ignited crackling into flames as they hit the concrete below me.

It was as if a phoenix had just descended upon the Earth, my wings stretching across the starry abyss of the sky as they propelled me forward.

[Vermillion Blessing: Advent of The South]

I was in the city, there was no reason to not use this form, now.

I streaked across the city; a blur of deep red shone like a shooting star to the admirers witnessing my flight.

'I'll never get sick of this.'

It was ecstatic.

The thrill of flying through the air

The thrill of touching the skies.

I flew from rooftop to rooftop just slightly hiding my presence from the hunter's waiting to shoot me down.

'There it is.'

The truck Oskar told me to destroy and the Heaven's Chained he asked me to bring back.

'I wonder why a Duke is going through this much trouble.'

He didn't know I knew, but I knew.

How couldn't I?

I was a transmigrator if you forgot.

I've already spent around a year in this novel, slowly gathering strength and connections before my days at the academy.

I was E+ ranked on par with the main character of the novel, some country bumpkin named Lucas.

He was a munchkin protagonist that came from out of nowhere and just one shots nerds waiting to be used as steppingstones.

'I can't wait to meet him.'

Oh yeah, the truck.

I had already slashed it to bits with my sword, a beautiful beast that mirrored my own appearance.

It had red crimson flames flowing from its blade, it was a large katana with a large red bird in the place of a guard.

It was actually more of an inconvenience half the time not having a guard, but I mean it looks cool so.

It was an enchanted sword that listened to my commands and burned my targets in an instant.

Custom-made by my dear leader, Oskar.

Or well Duke Valoren.

"Oskar, the truck is gone. It's mostly just a bunch of kids. Looks like they're cutting them at the root nowadays."

It grew eerily silent as I spoke into my phone, it seemed as if the weight of my words were weighing down on the stern man.

"I got it. Cerberus is coming to pick them up, travel with them to ensure they get here properly."

"Alright, alright. I got it."

After a while of waiting around, trying to entertain children with my fire magic and stopping them from running off to get captured once again.

Some even tried to bite me.

Eventually, a woman did come. She had deep blue eyes that were like a cool ocean on a windy day, her blonde hair cascading down her back.

Tight clothes that showed her absolutely astounding figure that drew in men of every type.

"Where's your mask?"

"I don't know, how about you tell me? Huh, Vermillion?"

Truth be told, yeah it was me.

I had stolen it right before this mission and hid it in Oskar's office.

"Hah... you're too young for this kind of business. Just let the adult handle it from here."

"Oskar told me to travel with you so I'm coming whether you like it or not."

"We're both on remote soon. This might be the last time we see each other in a while, Vermillion. It's nice working with you."

It was true, Cerberus and I's work was both going to slow down as we were going to do Remote Work. Which basically means we work only a bit throughout the year.

I knew the reason for her leave, and I definitely knew we would see each other again very soon.

The Instructor of Class S, Lumina Valoren. The daughter of Duke Valoren or Oskar.

During my entire time here, I specifically only showed my skills in front of two people. Oskar and Oracle. They're also the only ones who know my true face as my current appearance even without the mask is hidden by an artifact.

We asked the kids to get into the large bus-like vehicle, I took a seat right next to the driver's seat where Lumina would be sitting.

"So where are you headed?"

"I don't think we're close enough to be sharing that type of info. Also, I'm not too into older women."

"Ugh, I didn't mean it like that, you dipshit."

The rest of the ride was full of light banter and the laughs of children as they conversed in the back.

"Why do you do this type of work, Vermillion? You aren't a Heaven's Chained, right?"

"Yeah. It's pretty simple actually."

She raised a brow silently questioning my convictions as I continued. Eager to hear my heroic reason for risking my life to save people.

"I hate it. I hate it when people's fates are chosen by others."

"Ah... I see. That's a so you reason."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

****

"Vermillion with this you're officially going remote. I hear you want to go to the academy."

"Yeah, there's things I have to do there."

"Alright then, I won't question your will."

"See ya later, Oskar."

"Yes, see you later, Vermillion."
