Chapter 3 - Three

Story 13: The Whispers Beneath

Peace was never built to last.

Weeks after Ren's return, Mirakor began to shake—not with war, but with songs. Haunting melodies drifted from cracks in the earth, luring people to wander aimlessly, eyes glazed, hearts heavy. The oldest seers called it the Lament of the Deep.

It was Myrr who spoke first.

"There's something trapped far below," the cat murmured, staring into a well no one had dared to look into for centuries. "A voice that predates even me."

Sera felt it too—a sadness not her own, echoing in her dreams.

And always, the sound of purring.

But not Myrr's.

Something older.

Story 14: The Deep Catacombs

Ren, still adjusting to life in the physical world, led the descent into the forbidden catacombs with Sera and Myrr. These were ancient tunnels—older than Mirakor itself. The air was thick with stories untold, and the walls pulsed faintly with living script, like veins beneath skin.

Strange murals depicted cats—dozens of them, each with different eyes and tails made of stars. Guardians, warriors… and one chained beneath them all.

"The First Cat," Myrr whispered. "She... was not meant to wake."

As they ventured deeper, they began hearing laughter—childlike and cold.

And then a voice:

"Myrr... little traitor."

Story 15: The Forgotten Fang

A figure emerged from the darkness—sleek, silver, and massive. A feline shadow crowned in bone-white flame.

Her name was Nethra, the First Cat, the Mother of the Nine Lives. Myrr had once served her.

"You left me," Nethra hissed, her voice vibrating the stone. "You chose him."

Ren stood frozen, sensing something deeply wrong. Sera, ever brave, stepped forward.

"She's not your servant anymore," she said. "And neither are we."

Nethra grinned.

"Then you are prey."

In a single motion, she summoned the Fangs of Time, spectral beasts that roared as the walls cracked, revealing a dungeon of shifting timelines.

And thus began the Trial of the Nine Lives.

Story 16: The Trial of Lives

Each member of the trio was cast into a different timeline—one life for each of Nethra's ancient curses.

Sera relived a world where she never met Ren. She became a ruthless thief queen, feared and alone.

Ren found himself back at the beginning—still human, but powerless. A world where he never took the mask, never became the Cat. Helpless to stop Kharos.

Myrr… was forced to relive every life he had guided, every soul he failed, including the last breath of his creator.

But in each trial, one thing remained constant.

Their bond.

And one by one, they began to defy fate.

Story 17: Tenth Life

As the final trial ended, the three awoke before Nethra's throne.

"You were meant to break," she whispered. "To forget, as all others do."

Ren stood tall, his body glowing with celestial runes.

"We remember," he said. "And now, so will you."

Sera stepped forward, holding the relic she found in her final trial—a collar, once worn by Nethra, etched with a single word: Hope.

Something shifted in the air.

And the First Cat, for the first time in millennia, purred softly. The flames died down. The dungeon crumbled, not with rage—but with peace.

She vanished, her chains undone.

Story 18: The Cat and the Crown

The world above celebrated. Songs were rewritten. Legends retold.

Sera and Ren were now symbols of unity, of memory, and rebirth. Myrr, once a wanderer, had become a legend himself—known now as the Watcher of Tails.

But peace is never still.

An envoy from the distant realm of Elir appeared, bearing a strange crown wrapped in cloth and shadows. It bore the mark of a cat—but not from this world.

"It called to us," the envoy said. "A whisper from the stars."

And Myrr, who had purred for centuries, stopped.

"That crown..." he said.

"...is not of this world."
