Nervously, she picked up her mobile phone that was lying on the bed and called this number she was familiar with and always called when she had an emergency or anything to do with the kids.
Li Feng who was having dinner with his friends and that woman who just returned that evening heard his mobile phone vibrate, he dipped his hand inside the suite coat pocket and gazed at the screen to see who was calling him, he saw that familiar name and he knew she must have seen the news, but what he had in mind was that, it could be an emergency as she was left with the kids.
"Anything happened to my kids?" That was the first question he asked her. His voice was cold and distant as usual like she was his subordinate.
Before she could even respond, she heard that familiar voice beside Li Feng echoing through the mobile phone, "Did anything happen to the kids, Ah Feng? How about we go back to the mansion? We can't be careless with the kids!"
"It's my birthday!" Shen Ruyi hoarsely responded gazing at the floor while her eyes teared up nonstop. No one recalled that today was her birthday, not even her parents, she felt like she was some insignificant human watching after others live.
"Don't always call for no good reason!" With that response, he immediately hung up the phone call. It was like she was disturbing him and his good time telling him some nonsense.
Hearing that cold and unfeeling response, Shen Ruyi let the phone loose as it fell onto the floor feeling helpless all over.
It was her birthday today, couldn't he at least wish her a happy birthday? Couldn't he at least send flowers in his name even though he wouldn't deliver them by himself?
With sadness and depression, she didn't know how she would face society, her wasted years; who was she to begin with? She had lost herself in this unknown marriage. She had given more than she had received.
She sat there on the floor for an unknown amount of time and could no longer feel her legs, which had become numb and cold. Her heart was cold, and so was her body. She couldn't think straight; her face had turned pale, and her eyes gazed into space like a lost baby.
She felt pain until she could no longer feel it, she cried her eyes out until she could no longer shade any tear. Her eyes were swollen and puffy.
For an unknown amount of time, someone has been knocking at the bedroom door. With all the anger and frustration, she got up from the floor and walked over to the door, yanking it open roughly.
"What's the matter with you? Can't you let me have some sleep?" She couldn't hold her emotions in, she felt like everything was against her and her existence. She didn't want to see anyone in front of her, not even a fly.
Was her anger justified? But who could pity her when even her biological parents hated her?
"Auntie? What's the matter with you? Aren't you going to tell us bedtime stories as you usually do? Isn't that the reason why Daddy brought you home? Isn't that the reason why you get paid every month?" One of the kids, Li Ren, responded as he took a step back, frightened but still had this disrespectful tone while gazing at her like a stranger.
"Brother, let's go... Mommy is back and we don't need to be worried about who is going to read a bedtime story for us! She would always be reading for us and this auntie doesn't need to be paid. Can go away back to where she came from." Li Bo held his brother's hand and dragged him away downstairs, and the only person left at the door was Li Zhen, who was looking at his auntie pitifully.
Shen Ruyi didn't know if she had overreacted or if she was just frustrated and couldn't think straight; her emotions were all over the place. They were just kids, and this couldn't be their problem; she was the one at fault; she shouldn't have ever stepped into this mansion.
"Li Zhen...." She tried to calm down as she looked at the boy who was standing there at the door not frightened but had this pitiful look on him.
"Auntie, it's okay to feel sad and cry sometimes, it's all normal, and it's normal to lose your cool because you are just a normal human being as everyone else is." He passed over a sweet he was carrying before rushing away downstairs.
Shen Ruyi, who was holding the tiny candy in her palms, went back into the bedroom, locked the door, and went to bed. She cried her eyes out to sleep under the sheets wetting them.
