Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: They Transferred Their Love for Gu Zhi to Her

Qi Yunlin's VCR was about the first film he worked on as an assistant director when he entered the directing industry, where he was harshly scolded by the director due to a mistake.

"I don't care why you entered this industry. Since you're here, you should take responsibility! If you can't do it, get out of my crew. Don't think I won't scold you just because you're Emperor Qi's nephew!"

On a rainy night, he listened to the director's reprimand while silently picking up the storyboard script the director had thrown on the ground.

[Sobbing, this was the set of 'A Promise is a Promise,' Director Qi was only 21 years old then, it hurts my heart.]

[Isn't this main director Tang Jin? Emperor Qi's friend, he also contributed to Director Qi's achievements.]

[Honestly, as a non-fan, this doesn't affect me; who hasn't been scolded at work?]

After two segments of VCR played, the director handed a card to Qi's father, Qi's mother, and Qi Yunlin, asking them to write down their feelings.

Next was Sun Chaohua's VCR, showcasing a filming scene twenty years ago under a high temperature. Sun Chaohua wore thick cotton clothes for the martial arts scenes, which repeated over twenty times, yet his shots were few.

But he remained professional throughout, performing without a word of complaint.

Sun Chaohua awkwardly explained, "This scene was a bit part I played back then, just a martial arts shot, I only had one shot in it. I remember the high temperature reaching 38 degrees that day, and it was in an open valley, I got heatstroke after the performance."

Upon hearing this, everyone couldn't help but applaud him, and Jiang Xiangwan murmured, "Filming back then was really tough."

As for the video of Sun's father and Sun's mother, it was also from back in the day. On the day the drama featuring Sun Chaohua aired, Sun's family didn't own a TV, so they had to go to a neighbor's house to watch it, even eagerly recommending their son's drama to the neighbors. This was recorded by a neighbor's child.

Seeing this scene, the stoic Sun Chaohua couldn't hold back his tears.

[Brother Sun mentioned in an interview before that during the filming of this scene, not only did he get heatstroke, but his body was covered with bruises. They really hit back then during filming.]

[Sun Ba and Sun Ma were so pitiful, wanting to support their son's acting but not even having a TV.]

Liheng Han's VCR showed him at fifteen, as a trainee, practicing dance constantly day and night in hopes of getting a chance to perform on stage. Despite being exhausted, the thought of the stage gave him the strength to rise again and again.

At first, Han Ba and Han Mu strongly opposed Han Liheng becoming a trainee, going so far as to confront his school about it.

However, after witnessing their son's dedicated choice of this path and his sweat and tears, Han Ba and Han Mu were seen supporting him at every event he participated in.

[I watched this segment before, and it wasn't easy for him. Han Ba and Han Mu's opposition made it particularly tough for him for a while.]

[Fortunately, it's all in the past now, and Han Ba and Han Mu truly support Han Bao in all his events. I even saw them last time!]

Jiang Xiangwan's short film was set during her girl group's celebration party. Critics and people present doubted her abilities, mocking her as royalty, claiming her success was due to her family background.

At just eighteen, Jiang Xiangwan felt extremely scared and confused by these voices, retreating backstage to cry silently.

However, Jiang Ma appeared boldly, telling everyone if she intended to help Jiang Xiangwan, her achievements would be far beyond this point. After that incident, the voices vanished completely.

The VCR hadn't even finished, and Jiang Xiangwan burst into tears, throwing herself into Jiang Ma's embrace, clinging tightly.

"Sob... My mom is the world's best mom."

[I remember this incident; Jiang Xiangwan was quite pitiful during her online harassment.]

[Absolutely. This segment moved me to tears. Although Jiang Ma seems stern and speaks little, she truly loves Wanwan.]

[I'm so envious that Jiang Xiangwan has such a wonderful mother.]

Seeing Jiang Xiangwan crying uncontrollably, Director Chen felt relieved.

It proved that his segment was executed perfectly!

After Jiang Xiangwan finished crying, he said, "Next is Gu Dad and Mrs. Gu's segment. They had to leave due to urgent business but sent a VCR nonetheless."

Upon hearing this, Gu Yiyi instinctively glanced at Gu Zhi, seeing her indifferent expression. She smiled coldly before turning her attention to the moving screen.

Gu Mu's VCR was also footage from twenty years ago. Before giving birth to "Gu Yiyi," she suffered a car accident that jeopardized the pregnancy and was rushed to the hospital.

It was raining heavily that day. Mr. Gu immediately rushed from the negotiation table but due to the severe weather and traffic caused by the accident, the ambulance was delayed, leaving Mr. Gu sweating with anxiety. By the time the ambulance arrived, Gu Mu had already fainted from the pain.

When she was taken to the hospital, upon regaining consciousness, the doctor warned her that she was too weak for a cesarean, and her body had not recovered from the previous pregnancy. Forcing a delivery could lead to massive bleeding, and the doctor advised her to give up this child.

However, Gu Mu was adamantly opposed, even kneeling on the operating table to beg the doctor to save the child.

Finally, through her efforts and the doctor's help, "Gu Yiyi" was born safely, but Gu Mu fell into a coma for three days, almost not waking up.

Everyone watching this scene fell silent, seemingly understanding for the first time the immense difficulty a mother faces in bringing a child into the world.

Han Liheng was particularly stunned, looking at Gu Yiyi with a mix of surprise and sympathy, "Senior, I didn't expect your birth encountered so many trials."

Gu Yiyi faintly smiled without speaking.

She naturally knew that the child in the video wasn't her.

But it didn't matter, as the love her parents held for that "child" was transferred to her.

Gu Zhi also watched with indifference, showing no reaction.

Gu Yiyi's VCR recounted her experiences since debuting, from starting as a supporting actress, getting slapped in scenes, reprimanded by directors, having roles stolen, to silently memorizing scripts and practicing scenes alone, each step carefully taken.

When staff asked her if she was tired and why, with such a privileged background, she chose to endure such hardships in the industry, Gu Yiyi smiled and responded: "Because working hard for my dreams is something remarkable, I don't want to tarnish it. Since I chose this path, I will do my utmost to achieve the best, to the extreme."

Everyone was moved by her words, applauding her enthusiastically.

[Sobbing, Yiyi is amazing; her words motivate me too.]

[Yibao is truly hardworking and down-to-earth; she's taken every step herself, despite her wealthy and influential family, never relying on them. Unlike some who cling to what they don't have.]

[? A blind compliment? I wonder when not relying on family influence became something to brag about. Who among ordinary people can rely on their family?]

[Mrs. Gu's segment really made me feel the difficulty mothers face; every child is someone a mother is willing to protect with her life.]

[Crying/tears, luckily both Yiyi and Mrs. Gu are alright, surviving such ordeals means future fortunes/tears!]

"Very touching, mothers worldwide are truly great." After Gu Family's segment, Director Chen turned to Father Qin and Mrs. Qin, saying: "Next, there's no video, just a photo, and we need the involved parties to narrate it for us."

With that, he displayed a photo on the moving screen.
