Chapter 1 - Transition

There are things that are primordial in life. Right from the conception of this world to its demise, all things are in shape. It's still uncanny to humankind whether they should fear God and do righteous things or just keep on causing havoc in the universe. The balance is equal on both sides, good and bad.

Rumors say, "If you do good deeds, you will be granted access to heaven; bad deeds may send you to hell." There is no proof of this rumor, and there never will be until the almighty himself walks down on the earth and says so.

There are different opinions on whether God exists or whether it's just a work of fiction. Either way, both good and bad are drawn in...

Drawn in by a magnet, some call that magnet "a means to survival," while others call it God. While some call it out in infinite terms, a common name for this spirit is "money."

The entire universe rushes out every day, fixating itself day in and day out, to get hold of this money. So is seventeen-year-old Jason, trying his level best to seize hold of it.

Jason has just finished his exams for the 12th grade. While normally people his age enjoy their vacations, living their lives to the fullest. Jason doesn't have the liberty to do so.

It's not like he doesn't want to, but being bound by the responsibilities of his family, he has no alternative.

He's looking for a job. Although big companies won't hire him since he is not of the proper age to be working yet, supposing they even consider him, does he have the skills to survive? Does he even have a degree? These questions have been raised repeatedly.

Jason has stopped dreaming of putting his foot into big companies. He understands that he is just too young for that.

Since these giants are out of his reach. Jason has been constantly trying to get a grasp on an agency.

After giving numerous interviews, he has not been able to land a job, but today might be different; he might just kick off his career.

Let's find out where destiny takes hold of this young man.

AT PRESENT:

It was a sun-drenched morning. The skies are clear. I was enjoying the view our balcony had to offer. The wind was gushing through my ears, making a soothing sound.

Staying on the 15th floor has been an advantage ever since I was a kid.

You could just sit down all day, gazing at the sky, letting go of all your sorrow and pain, joy, or happiness; the sky always offered you to open up.

"If only life were to be this simple: watching the sky, enjoying our lives with our loved ones, and doing what our heart intended to do." If only...

The fairy tale was over. In the blink of an eye, I was walking through the streets. The streets are filled with empty hearts. What looked good from above was a mess at the base.

The people rushing to work—all of them—had a hunger for earning money. It was the same for me. jumping from interview to interview, trying to just land a job.

I have been trying to get a job for a month and have given countless interviews, but still, luck hasn't been on my side. Today felt a bit different. It was just that my senses felt better than ever, and I was sure that today was the day I would get a job.

I lost all inspiration when I was seated in the meeting room, one-on-one with HR. I did not feel anxious when a superior questioned me since I had been given this for a month.

He had an oval-shaped face and a slight build. He had hooded eyes.

Although I was looking at him, his voice felt thick. He peered through my resume. "You still haven't passed 12th grade, Mr. Jason... even if you have brought a skill set with you, I can't commence this interview."

This shook me to the core. I wasn't able to believe that I had just been rejected from a job without even saying a single word to him.

I clenched my teeth, preventing myself from speaking to him absurdly. "You are still young; study well. - I wish you good luck."

"Thank you!" In the end, I was only able to say two words. I waddled down the building and entered the street.

"Another day, another rejection. URGH! I'm fed up with this. I had promised Mom today that I'd get this and make ends meet."

There was no stop to my overflowing emotions; all that bullsh-t about my senses feeling good was just a sham.

I saw Mom finally happy and smiling for the first time in a while since my father's death. "Dad, if you're watching, please guide me out of this poverty."

I did not want to go home right away. I didn't have the courage to face Mom. I was just wandering around, lost in thought. Until I came across an alleyway.

The alley was narrow. I was walking with my eyes downcast. I was hearing the chit-chatting of people in front of me. I shook my head upward when I heard a shrieking sound. My eyes widened as I saw a person whack into a shop's shutter.

There were five people in total in front of him. All with a huge build. I felt that they were just a bunch of bullies who picked on the weak.

I saw no opening to go through them, so I decided to turn around and take another route.

I started walking, and just when I was on the brink of getting out of the narrow passage, a tall man approached me; his build was muscular. He went past me, which made me relieved. I paid no attention to him and continued walking.

As I went past him, my eye glittered, and my instinct guided me to gaze at his left hand. I saw a knife in his hand. A carving knife.

"What the hell? A knife? Is he going to kill somebody?"

I couldn't help but wonder what might happen. He was heading toward the person who had just been bashed into the shutter.

Without giving it any thought, my body moved on its own. Dropping my cross-body bag, I immediately ran at full speed to avert this crisis.
