Everyone eventually left, one by one.
Now, it was just me, Serah, Joseph… and Henry.
Yeah—Henry. That's his name. The killer.
After a while, Joseph got a call from his mother asking him to come home. He was about to leave, and that's when my heart started racing.
I think Henry sensed it—he could probably read the panic on my face.
Suddenly, he said, "Hey Joseph, can you drop me near the junction?"
I felt a brief wave of relief.
Joseph agreed, and the two of them left.
But before walking out the door, Henry looked at me—that look—and said nothing.
But I knew exactly what it meant.
Don't say a word.
I wanted to ask Serah to stay the night, just in case. I told her she should.
But she didn't listen.
"It's just a two-minute walk," she said casually. Her house was close by, so she preferred walking.
I stood at the door and watched her leave, eyes scanning every shadow. I only went back inside after making sure she'd reached home safely.
Then, I locked the door.
Checked it again.
And again.
Only after I was sure it was secure, I walked through the messy living room and headed toward my bedroom.
I locked that door too.
Finally, I lay down on the bed.
For the first time in days…
I felt a little better.
