Chapter 8 - 08

Niley thought for a moment. Every family was short on food now. If she gave this food to his father, it might not look good. But if she didn't give it, his father had also been hungry for days like him.

Besides, his mother probably wasn't home right now. Giving his father something to eat shouldn't be a problem.

She wasn't sure if this man was being sincere or just testing her.

Niley saw that he wasn't moving and asked curiously, "Eat quickly. You need to finish all of this. I made a lot today—there's some in the pot for your dad too."

Mier nodded hesitantly and softly said, "Thank you, wife."

"No need to thank me."

What was wrong with spoiling her husband?

Nothing at all!

If she didn't pamper her sweet and gentle husband, should she go pamper someone else's?

And he even called her "wife"! Just thinking about it made her blush.

Niley looked calm on the outside, but inside, her heart was in a storm. Ever since her 18th birthday, her parents had been pushing her to find a partner at different bases. Now look at this—she came to a female-dominated world and got such a handsome husband for free.

She really struck gold!

Mier noticed the smile on her lips and figured she must be sincere.

So, when he sat down again to eat, he wasn't as cautious anymore. Still, he ate neatly and quietly. After finishing, he quickly cleaned up the dishes and went to wash them in the kitchen.

Sure enough, he found a breakfast portion just like theirs still in the pot. He felt a surge of joy—at least his father wouldn't have to go hungry today. He quickly cleaned up the kitchen, picked up the food, and went out the door.

Niley watched him leave and suddenly felt a bit uneasy.

Even though Mier was quiet, having someone around made her feel more at ease. Her mind didn't echo with the sounds of explosions anymore. But now that he'd left, she instantly felt the difference.

After all, even though she had lived 18 years in the apocalypse, she always had her parents and people from the base around her. At the very least, she had her little zombie baby.

But ever since coming to this world three days ago, she hadn't even seen a single scumbag!

She was so bored that she had started talking to herself at home.

Thinking of this, she started swinging the rattan chair restlessly, her mind blank as she listened to the sounds from the neighbors.

Her senses were sharp, but there was still a bit of distance. It wasn't as noisy as it had been in the morning, so she couldn't hear clearly. Just when she was getting impatient and wanted to go out, she suddenly heard faint, muffled sobs.

It was Mier!

Why was he crying?

Did she treat him badly?

She frowned, but then relaxed a little after listening more carefully.

So, the father and son did know how to be grateful!

Hearing footsteps outside the door, she quickly lay down on the rattan chair and closed her eyes to rest.

Mier returned after delivering the food to his father. When he opened the door, he saw Niley still rocking in the same position. He hesitated for a moment, blinked his teary eyes, and asked softly, "Wife, can I go out for a bit?"

His older brothers were still in town and hadn't returned. He and his father were worried about them—especially after what had happened today. If word of it reached them, they'd be even more anxious.

Just in case, it was better to go check on them and explain what happened today. That way, even if Niley found out, they could have a plan.

"Go out? Where to?" Niley looked over at Mier, surprised.

She hadn't heard anything earlier about them going out?

But since she arrived, she hadn't really explored this place. She didn't even know if there was anything fun around.

She stood up but saw Mier looking at her with a troubled expression. Her eyes instantly dimmed, and she waved her hand. "Go ahead, just come back early."

Then she saw Mier actually preparing to leave, and she couldn't help but let out a cold humph.

This husband was not obedient—he didn't even take her with him!

She really wanted to go out too!

She needed to see other people. If not, she felt like she was going to rot from being stuck indoors.

"Do you want to come with me?" Mier asked, seeing the hopeful look on her face. His words slipped out without thinking.

Right after speaking, he regretted it. It wasn't the right time for her to know about his older brothers. He didn't know how long he could hide it, but now wasn't the time.

Niley, who had just gotten her hopes up, saw Mier's hesitant face and forced a smile. "No, I don't want to go."

She didn't really like going out anyway. She had social anxiety.

People in this female-dominated world were different from the zombies.

Then she watched as Mier began undressing in front of her. Her heart skipped a beat—it wasn't even dark outside. And didn't he just say he was going out?

Now he was undressing... was he trying to cheer her up because he saw she was upset?

No way, right?

She stared as Mier took off the thick outer coat, leaving only the snug thermal wear. It highlighted his slim and well-proportioned figure, like a walking clothes model.

He was thin, but his curves were in all the right places. Even his chest looked full and firm. She wondered what it would feel like to touch it.

Looking at him, her mind suddenly filled with the steamy clips she used to secretly watch with Jiang Li during the apocalypse. Her mouth went dry as she stared at him.

Help!

Her head was full of dirty thoughts again!

Niley scratched her head in frustration. She had seen plenty of naked zombies during the apocalypse—male and female. So why was she suddenly so tempted by this guy?

It didn't make sense. Not at all.

While she was struggling with her thoughts, still sneaking glances at Mier, he had already put on the old tattered clothes over the warm ones she had given him. It looked fine—not too noticeable.

When he turned around, he saw Niley avoiding his gaze.

Then it hit him—he had changed clothes right in front of her. Thankfully, he hadn't undressed completely, just swapped clothes.

His face cooled down a bit at the thought. When he looked back at Niley again, she looked all flustered and shy. His eyes sparkled.

"You don't want to go out?" Mier asked softly, getting closer.

As he leaned in and looked into Niley's eyes, their faces drew closer. Their breaths mixed in the warm air from the heater, brushing over their cheeks, making them both blush.

Niley swallowed hard. In the next moment, she reached out, wrapped her arm around Mier's waist, pulled him into her arms, gently touched his soft neck, and leaned in for a kiss.

Their lips met, both of them trembling slightly. Mier let out a soft sound from the unfamiliar feeling, and Niley deepened the kiss, their tongues meeting and dancing together.

When the kiss finally ended, Niley leaned against Mier's shoulder, catching her breath.

No wonder people in the base still fell in love even during the apocalypse—this feeling was amazing.
