Chapter 36 - Epilogue: After the Ashes

The cabin sat on the edge of a lake no one remembered.

Surrounded by tall trees and silver skies, it felt untouched—like time had forgotten this place. Just how you wanted it.

You stood on the back porch, coffee in hand, watching the water ripple as a light wind passed.

Ada appeared behind you, arms slipping around your waist. "Still keeping watch?" she teased, resting her head on your shoulder.

You smiled. "Habit dies hard."

Inside, laughter broke the stillness.

Lia and Kairo sat at the old wooden table, half-buried in a mess of tools, chips, and wires. He was sketching some kind of hover-bike on a napkin. She was pretending not to be impressed.

They looked different now—not just older. Stronger. Calmer. Free.

You and Ada walked inside as Kairo accidentally triggered a pulse that lit up half the room.

"Still unstable," he muttered.

"You're unstable," Lia grinned, snatching the tool from his hand. "Let me fix it before you launch us through a wall."

Ada raised an eyebrow. "They're definitely our kids."

You chuckled, settling down at the table.

For the first time in years, there were no alarms. No missions. No blood on your hands.

Just sunlight.

Laughter.

Family.

Lia looked up, suddenly thoughtful. "Hey… do you think it's really over?"

You glanced at Ada. She gave you the softest nod.

"For now," you said. "And when it's not—we'll be ready."

Outside, the breeze carried the smell of pine and old rain. The lake shimmered.

Peace was rare.

But today—it was yours.
