Chapter 46 - Poor Kakuzu

Three Days Later

Haruto stood before the man, the myth—the ghost of a revolution. Nagato Uzumaki.

The man who transformed the Akatsuki from a hopeful ideal into a full-blown criminal syndicate. And yet, somehow, still hadn't figured out how not to burn himself out.

Nagato sat beneath the dull glow of chakra lamps, gaunt and pale. His skeletal fingers twitched faintly as if even breathing was a chore. Despite his hollow cheeks and sunken eyes, he was alive. Barely.

"Why not meditate while channeling chakra?" Haruto asked, voice calm, observing the quiet whine of mechanical support limbs holding Nagato up.

Nagato slowly shook his head. "I lose control," he said flatly.

A silence hung in the air, brittle and awkward. Then Nagato asked, "So... how did you awaken your eyes?"

"Mine?" Haruto took a breath, eyes narrowing at a painful memory. "I watched my brother die."

Nagato nodded solemnly. "My condolences."

Haruto looked at him, curiosity flickering in his eyes. "What about you?"

Nagato's voice dropped lower. "I watched... my brother die in my arms."

Haruto offered a dry smile. "Guess we're the same. Except my brother survived. Some weird serum stopped his heartbeat for minutes. I thought he was gone. Turns out—false alarm." He let out a soft, bitter chuckle.

"Where is he now?"

Haruto shook his head. "No idea."

Nagato studied him for a moment before admitting, "Even though we share the same eyes, yours feel... more potent. Like they carry something ancient."

Haruto gave a half-shrug. "Err... I wouldn't say mine are stronger."

He remembered the Six Paths Rinnegan. The path ahead was long and winding.

"I can't explain it," Nagato murmured. "But your presence... it feels distant, overwhelming. Like you could fight the entire world and still have chakra to spare."

Haruto smirked. Of course, I'm a walking tailed beast.

"So," Haruto shifted topics with ease, "how did you create Akatsuki?"

He spent the rest of the evening slowly weaving rapport with Nagato, sharing jokes, ideals, plans. Not as a manipulator—but as someone who wanted something different. A future where the Akatsuki weren't just criminals, but comrades.

Elsewhere in the Rain Country - Akatsuki Hideout

The massive stone cave was concealed by camouflage seals, built into a cliff face hidden behind waterfalls. As the Akatsuki members stepped inside, their eyes adjusted to an interior unlike any previous base.

The tunnel opened into a vast lounge, illuminated by chakra-embedded crystal trees that shimmered with blue and white light. The floor was polished white tile, reflecting their forms like water.

Rock-carved thrones formed a circle around a glowing sigil etched into the center.

"Come over here," Tazuna said, wiping sweat from his brow. "This door leads to your rooms."

Tobi whistled. "This is amazing..."

The hallway ahead shimmered in a gold-and-white hue. Each door was marked with golden tile borders and black lacquered nameplates.

"These yellow tiles are amazing," Deidara muttered.

Kakuzu crouched slightly and squinted. "That's not paint. That's real gold."

Haruto froze. "Rule added: Anyone who dares steal gold will be hunted by every Akatsuki member."

"Agreed!" Tobi shouted with raised hands.

No objections—just Kakuzu's murderous glare.

"You know, kid? I fought a legend once—Hashirama Senju."

Haruto grinned. "And let me guess. You got flattened."

Hidan stifled a laugh.

"You little—!"

"Enough!" Pain's voice echoed like thunder. "If you want to fight, take it outside. This base is freshly built. No one breaks anything."

Silence fell. Haruto puffed his chest.

"I'm proud, Tazuna."

Tazuna bowed slightly. "No need for thanks, Kazuto-san. It was a pleasure working with you."

"You got your payment, right?"

"Of course. I'll be leaving now. Take care, gentlemen."

As the old man disappeared, Haruto turned back. "Poor guy couldn't tell a gentleman from a real gentleman."

He pointed to Kakuzu. "That guy? Greed in pants. Me? Humble perfection."

"You moth—"

"Shut it." Haruto vanished into his room, then stepped back out. "Oh yeah, every bed has your name carved on it. Check before you pick."

Kakuzu eyed the door across from Haruto's and opened it.

"What the—!?"

His room looked like an abandoned shack. The walls were flaking, the mattress was half-collapsed, and a thin layer of dust coated everything.

"This is for beggars!"

Deidara strode ahead and pushed open the next door, his curious eyes scanning the neatly carved name on the wooden bedframe.

"Oh... this one's Konan's room," he muttered, a hint of admiration creeping into his voice.

The room was located just beside Haruto's. As Konan stepped past him, Deidara gave a low whistle and backed out respectfully.

"Wow... this room has some real amenities," he murmured, eyes trailing over the elegant décor—blue-hued curtains drifting gently in the cool underground breeze, a white paper flower motif etched into the walls, and a sleek vanity against the far end.

Konan said nothing, quietly stepping inside and closing the door with a soft click.

CRASH!

"What the fuck!!!"

A yell erupted from farther down the hallway. Everyone turned.

Kakuzu's voice echoed like a thunderclap through the corridor.

"What the fuck is this bathroom!? It's a pile of dirt and a fucking hole in the ground!"

Haruto chuckled behind a closed door. That one had been deliberate.

Inside Kakuzu's room, it was clear why he was losing his mind. The walls were cracked, the bed looked scavenged from a junkyard, and the floor was layered in a film of dust. The bathroom was nothing more than a pit toilet over a dirt patch—no pipes, no tiles, just suffering.

Meanwhile, Itachi opened another door calmly. "Hidan."

Hidan leaned in, eyebrows rising in surprise. The room glowed faintly red, the walls painted in dark crimson with ominous black scythe patterns carved into the stone. A single steel cabinet stood in the corner beside a sleek, sharp-edged bed.

"Oh ho~! Kazuto knows me well," Hidan grinned, licking his lips as he stepped inside with a wild glint in his eye.

Itachi moved to the next room and silently opened the door.

His Sharingan flickered faintly as he took in the sight. A massive, haunting mural of a red Sharingan was painted on the far wall, staring directly at the bed like a watchful guardian. The room was dimly lit by soft red orbs suspended in midair, casting shadows in rhythmic pulses. The mattress was perfectly tailored—blood red silk sheets atop a black velvet frame.

He said nothing, stepping inside and gently closing the door behind him.

One by one, the other Akatsuki members found their rooms:

---

Kisame's Room

The walls resembled a coral reef, sculpted with deep-sea motifs. The room echoed faintly like an ocean cave. A small artificial waterfall trickled in the corner, and the bed was shaped like a shark's dorsal fin. A misty blue glow filtered down from a ceiling embedded with glowing gems.

Kisame grinned, showing off his sharp teeth.

"Heh, feels like home."

---

Sasori's Room

Minimalistic and sterile. A room of precision. The walls were white, lined with sealed scroll racks and display cases for puppets. A long workbench dominated the far end, and the bed was a slab of polished stone—no frills, just utility.

Sasori's expression didn't change, but the corner of his mouth twitched.

"Hm. Functional."

--

Tobi's Room

Bright, playful, and completely out of sync with the rest. The walls were decorated with orange swirls, and a beanbag chair sat in one corner. A big poster of the moon was taped above a bed filled with stuffed animals.

Tobi threw his arms in the air.

"Yatta~! This is heaven!"

Deidara muttered from the hallway, "What kind of child lives like this?"

---

Haruto stood before a mirror in his private room, smirking.

Everything was falling into place.

And for once...he felt really close to be able to achieve his goal of...Unifying Akatsuki as a Ally to the world!

Perhaps a distant dream but a powerful one...
