She is taken aback, but she now knows. Why do they all look like this? Because Meghalaya did not exist as a separate state at the time, they do not have a mobile phone, and East Khasi Hills is in Assam. She is in disbelief and begins crying as she runs outside the university's gate. She must be dreaming, so she began smacking herself to rouse her up. She does not appear to be awake. She finds a stone, picks it up, and through it on her toe; she is bleeding, but she hasn't awoken. She is now irritated. She begins to cry and weeps. She has no idea what is going on; she is going insane. She resumes her run, despite the wound on her toe. And then she collapsed and ended up being unconscious. She hasn't eaten anything, and she lacks the energy to run and wail.
A shadow appears in the darkness and takes her up.
When she opened her eyes, she happened to be in a room, A bamboo and wood-panelled chamber. There is no door, only a curtain-like cloth hanging on the room's entry, and no lights, only a large window. It is early morning. She is afraid, so she tries to stand up and walk away, but her body does not support her. A woman enters, likewise dressed in a Gho and Kira.
"Oh, you've awoken. My name is Rupomoi. Do you wish to write a letter to your family members that you are safe and sound?"
"Rupomoi, who are you, and what are you doing to me here?" Ahmaya responds in an unfriendly manner.
"Our master informed us that a young lady with long hair and brown skin, dressed in yellow Kira, is wandering around his university in need of help." And because we discovered you unconscious, we brought you here. We contacted a doctor, and he should be here soon."
"I don't need a damn doctor; I just need to go home. But how am I supposed to go home, shit." Ahmaya raged at Rupomoi and burst into tears.
"Why can't you just go home? Is there something terrible happening with you? Please don't cry; our boss will undoubtedly assist you." and she leaves.
The doctor arrives and performs a few tests on her before leaving.
After a few hours, that previous young man with Rupomoi comes to the room. He observed Ahmaya seated and sobbing.
"What is your name, and what exactly is the problem?" he asks.
Ahmaya is crying softly as she looks out the window.
"Ahmaya," she says in hushed tones.
"Ahmaya, tell me your address."
"What is this year?" In the same tone, Ahmaya inquires.
"1935. Why are you messing about when you could just give me your address?"
"It won't make a difference if I give you, my address." Ahmaya grinned.
"Stop crying and tell us how we might help you." The boy stated softly.
"You are unable to help me."
"There is nothing wrong with your mind, according to the doctor, so there must be something we can do for you. You're in my territory, so I owe you assistance." He speaks.
"Thank you for assuring me that I am not insane. But it would be easier for me to accept all this if I might have been insane. By the way what is your name sir."
And then Ahmaya moved her neck and sees his face.
"I am Kitbok, Kitbok Marak."
"Many thanks, Kitbok. I have to leave now." Ahmaya lets out a huge sigh and tries to get up.
"Tell me where you want to go my men will drop you."
I'm not sure...Is there a red scandal wood tree nearby? Ahmaya inquires, intrigued.
"There are few red scandal wood trees here." Rupomoi responded.
"I need to go to a red scandal wood tree and then I think I can go my home, the tree, which is huge, dense...." Ahmaya was contemplating and speaking these words.
Kitbok interrupts, saying, "My man will show you every scandal wood tree in this neighbourhood and drop you off wherever you need to be." And he left.
Rupomoi brought Ahmaya a new set of gho and kira. And told her to change into it.
Ahmaya has no idea how to put these on. She is attempting to put on but is unable to do so. She now believes it is time to ask for help.
"Rupomoi, could you please come inside?" she asks.
"Should I come inside?"
"Please, yes." Ahmaya requested.
She enters the room. "Can you help me in wearing these?"
Rupomoi is very much confused about the identity of Ahmaya, how come she does not know how to wear a kira. She helps her and teaches her how to put on a kira.
.
She climbs into a bullock cart. The bullocky takes her to the first red scandal wood tree in the vicinity and asked, "Is this the tree?" and she declines. Then she sees the second, third, fourth, and fifth trees, but they are not the one she is looking for, and it is almost dusk, and then the last, "madam, this is the last scandal wood tree in this neighbourhood's forest." This tree is not that tree. She is devastated, enraged at her life, and depressed as hell. "Sir, drop me here only," she says to the bullocky, "I need to get off here."
She is once again alone in a forest, and she sits knees up under a tree, crying gently and attempting to figure out how to get back. She believes the tree is nearby, but if the bullocky knew, he would undoubtedly take her there. She is concerned that the tree will not be planted at this time. She sobs as she rests her head on her knees. She is also afraid because it is dark. And then, a hand approaches her. She lifts her head and see, its him. its Kitbok
"Is this the tree you wanted to come to?" he says.
"No, I can't find that tree." Ahmaya sobbing heavily.
She grasped his hand again.
He takes her inside the village and sits beside a tiny lake with her. Lights a bonfire in the middle. "Tell me what's going on?" he asks. Like basics, who are you, from where do you belong."
"Due to personal reasons, I can't tell you from where I belong, and even if I do, you wouldn't believe me. ' I am here because of some incident, incident which I don't understand and don't know, and now I am unable to go home, it's frustrating," Ahmaya adds in a mournful tone. I am 18. I live with my grandma. I don't know where my mom is, and my dad died. I am missing my grandma so much." softly begins to cry.
Kitbok is only seeing her innocent face and is at a loss for words. He wants to change the subject so she can stop crying. "Aren't you hungry?"
She agreed with a nod of her head.
"It's my aunt's home few steps aways from here, I will quicky go and bring something to eat, don't go anywhere from here I am coming."
He appears a few minutes later, saying, "Here you go, it's Jadoh."
"I know, I used to have it a lot when I was younger." She begins to eat.
"Can you tell me something about yourself as well?" she wants to know.
"Sure...umm, I'm 19, my mother is the head of the Hojang community, and I have an older brother who is a student at Cambridge University. I used to have a younger sister, but she is no more, she was shot By a British soldier accidentally".
And then she realised it's British rule time. "Shit!"
What? Says kitbok.
"Nothing, I know how it feels to lose your loved ones."
She continues "So You go to a local university, correct? Why aren't you attending Cambridge like your brother? Are you a bad student?"
"No, that's not the case", he said, sighing. The issue is, "I wanted to live in my country, near my people, and do good things for them. My mother pushed me to go, but I didn't."
"Impressive.... you have an impressive personality." Ahmaya is grateful to him for everything he has done for her thus far.
"To which community do you belong?" he says, raising his brows.
"Aokma." Ahmaya responded.
He seems distressed, and he appears to be stunned after thinking something.
"Is there something wrong?" Ahmaya asks.
"No, it's just, I've never heard of such a community. I asked because you shouldn't be here if you're from a rival community." He answers.
"Where I belong, community, cast, and religion are unimportant. We all live together." Ahmaya says with a sneer.
"It's late, we should go home now, you can live with Rupomoi for the time being."
Ahmaya is staring at him, wondering why he is doing so much for her. She is grateful to him but could not able to explain.
They are walking to Rupomoi's house. On the way, Ahmaya reads a site that seems familiar. Then she recalls that this was the identical location she had seen in her dream. Yes, this is the same place where people were bowing before her after seeing her. She comes to a pause and begins looking for something; she believes she can find something here. Kitbok is simply confused by what has occurred to her so fast. What is she looking for? She is inspecting the soil, the trees, and everything else.
And there comes a lady, "hey you girl what are you doing?"
Ahmaya is stunned to see her face. She doesn't seem to know what she should say or do just now. The tall lady from her visions, with large black eyes and short red brownish hair is standing in front of her.
