Chapter 10 - The Retaliation

The world had been watching. Reo's calculated exposure of Caius and Nexis Media had sent shockwaves through the business world. The accusations against Caius seemed to paint him as the villain in this story, but Reo knew better than to think it was over. His rival had been silent for far too long, and silence in this game often meant the calm before the storm.

A few days after the media storm, Reo sat in his office, staring at the storm clouds gathering outside his window. The news had barely begun to settle when the first signs of retaliation began to show. His phone rang, the sound slicing through the tension in the room like a blade. It was Kaito.

"Reo, you need to see this," Kaito's voice was strained, a tone of urgency that immediately put Reo on alert.

"Show me," Reo replied, already standing up and heading toward the conference room.

---

Inside, Kaito had already set up the latest news feed, the screen flashing with breaking headlines.

"Reo, I'm sure you've heard of this by now, but Caius has completely flipped the script. He's not fighting back in the way we expected. Instead, he's hitting us where it hurts the most—our partners."

Reo narrowed his eyes. Caius's retaliation wasn't public. Instead, it was happening behind closed doors.

"What do you mean?"

Kaito handed him a tablet, and as Reo scrolled through the information, his mind began to churn with the realization. Caius had managed to target Reo's largest investors, using his connections to place enormous pressure on them. Several major players in the financial sector had begun to pull their support from Reo's ventures, citing "unforeseen ethical concerns" and "legal red flags."

"This can't be just coincidence," Reo muttered, his eyes hardening. "He's using our own partners to suffocate us from the inside."

The gravity of the situation hit him full force. Caius had always been a master at manipulation, and this move was a stark reminder that Reo wasn't facing a mere businessman—he was facing a shadowy power broker who knew how to pull the strings of the global economy.

Kaito leaned in. "What do we do now, Reo?"

Reo stared at the screen, his mind racing through options. A direct counterattack wouldn't work this time. Caius had carefully orchestrated his moves, and Reo's allies were slowly being turned against him. If he didn't act swiftly, he risked losing everything—his wealth, his empire, and even his reputation.

"I need to get ahead of this," Reo said, his voice steely with resolve. "We're going to turn the tables on him."

---

That night, Reo stayed up late, locked in his office, putting together his counteroffensive. His first step was to find a way to counteract the pressure on his investors. He needed to reassure them that their investments were secure and that Caius's tactics wouldn't work. But he couldn't do that without knowing more about how Caius had set this all up.

Kaito was already deep into his investigation, digging into every possible avenue to uncover how Caius had manipulated the investors. Meanwhile, Reo's mind returned to the initial flaw he'd discovered in Caius's operations: his overreliance on connections and influence. Caius had never played the game fairly—he always relied on manipulation behind the scenes. Reo needed to expose that weakness.

He called Aika into his office.

"Aika, I want you to dig deeper into Caius's network. Specifically, I want you to focus on his political connections. Who in government is backing him? I need to know what kind of leverage he's using to pull the strings."

Aika nodded, her eyes sharp with understanding. "I'll get on it right away."

---

The following morning, the pressure continued to mount. Reo's media team had been working tirelessly to repair the damage done to his reputation, but the silent whispers behind closed doors were proving harder to silence.

Reo stood at the window of his office, his gaze lost in the city below, as the sun began to rise. He had always been a man of action, but this battle required more than just moves on the chessboard—it required understanding the true nature of his opponent.

It was then that he realized: Caius wasn't just trying to crush him; he was trying to turn everyone against him. The silent war was a test of loyalty—a test to see if Reo's allies were as strong as he believed them to be.

Reo turned sharply, his expression hardening. "Kaito, Aika, I have a new plan. We're not just going to fight back; we're going to show Caius just how little he truly knows about his own game."

---

Reo called a meeting with his top-tier allies, those who had stood by him through thick and thin. The situation had reached a boiling point, and it was time to pull out every card they had.

"I know you've all been under pressure," Reo began, his voice cold but commanding. "But now is the time to prove your loyalty. Caius wants to break us from the inside, but we're not going to let him. We'll fight back, not just in the open, but in the shadows where he thrives."

He laid out the plan in front of them. They were going to hit Caius where it hurt the most—his political connections. They had already uncovered enough information to know that Caius had ties with several influential figures in the government, figures who had given him their silent backing. Reo was going to use that leverage to his advantage.

"We'll leak the truth about his political dealings. We'll expose the entire network of corruption he's built. When the public sees how far he's gone to manipulate governments, his empire will crumble."

---

Hours later, the news broke. A whistleblower from within Nexis Media had come forward, revealing shocking details about Caius's dealings with corrupt politicians and illegal lobbying efforts. The fallout was immediate. As the story spread, the public's perception of Caius shifted from that of a successful businessman to a man entangled in corruption.

In the wake of the revelations, Reo watched as Caius was forced to make an appearance, defending himself against the allegations. But the damage was done. The public, investors, and even some of Caius's closest allies began to question his legitimacy.

But Reo knew better than to celebrate just yet. Caius was still dangerous, and a man like him didn't take defeat lightly. Reo's victory was a mere opening salvo. The war was far from over.
