Chapter 68 - Chapter 67 — Children of the Revolution

France — Small Auditorium

At the invitation of an old resistance friend, Vera attended a clandestine debate on civil rights and freedom.

Sitting in the back rows, almost invisible, she watched young students step onto the small, improvised stage.

They spoke with passion.

With controlled fury.

With the strength of those who no longer accepted silence as an answer.

Vera felt her chest tighten — not from sadness, but from a silent, vibrant pride.

None of those young people knew her.

None knew of her days fleeing through Milan's alleys, of nights sleeping in damp cellars, of the calculated risks between the secret police's patrols.

And yet, there they were:

Defending freedom.

Exposing injustices.

Challenging fear with words sharp as blades.

When the debate ended, Vera slipped out of the auditorium quietly, before anyone could notice her.

She walked through the frozen streets, scarf pulled tightly around her face.

She knew she no longer needed to stand at the center of the struggle.

Her seed had blossomed.

Those young people were children of the revolution she had helped plant — even if they never knew her name.

And that, Vera thought, was the greatest triumph of all.
