Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1 : Falling Into Darkness

"Stop with all your nonsense! None of you actually cared for me! I've had enough of both of your lies…" Yueqing snapped, her voice tinged with grief as tears threatened to fall from her eyes. Growing up, she had experienced these pointless arguments far too many times, but today, she had enough and stood up for once. All she ever wanted was a happy family, just like how everyone else had. Both Yueqing's mother and father were slightly taken aback by the sudden change in their daughter.

Yueqing's mother, Ruolan, felt a sense of guilt. After all, she had once been just like her daughter, resisting against her parents. But all this so-called "resisting" had been nothing but a futile, non-existent in Ruolan's family.

As for Yueqing's father, Lengyuan, affection rolled off him like water on stone. Lengyuan was often not home, and even when he was, he was always drunk. They both want Yueqing to live quietly, learning everything a woman should learn. But compared to Yueqing, she wanted something else. She didn't knew what is it, but she thinks she just need some time to decide. After all, this decision matters to her whole life.

"Obedient child, huh...? I'm sorry I'm not what you both wanted me to be. I don't ever want to see either of you again." Yueqing's eyes were a dull red, the weight of unshed tears still clinging to them as she let out a hollow laugh. Her gaze swept across the room; it reeked of mildew, and the walls seemed to close in on her, suffocating all the light. There was nothing left for her to hold on to. Without even sparing her parents a final glance, she left the house, leaving them with mixed emotions.

Yueqing wandered aimlessly through the city, lost and without direction. "What am I supposed to do... I don't even have anywhere to go, and the funniest thing is? I don't even have any aspirations." She felt pathetic, her voice breaking as she muttered to herself. She thought of how even those struggling through tough lives often had dreams or someone to live for, but she had nothing.

She prayed, not knowing to whom, nor caring if her prayers were heard. Right now, she just wanted to hold on to something, even if nothing helps. The feeling of hope was the only last thing she had left. As if her prayers had angered the heavens, her vision suddenly blurred and her ears were filled with shrieking noises. She staggered, breathless and her legs eventually gave out beneath her. Darkness took over her, loud thump echoed through the air. Every passerby stopped in their tracks after hearing the racket, some people immediately tried to call the ambulance while others felt remorse for the poor girl who had just fainted. Analysing the young girl, it was clear she was skin and bones and hadn't slept in days.

The piercing wail of the ambulance tore through the air, cutting into the chaos like a blade. Yueqing's thoughts spun in a storm of contradictions. Should she feel relieved? Grateful? Or quietly disappointed that she might not make it? She was too exhausted to care anymore. With the weight of everything pressing down on her, she let herself slip into unconsciousness, right there on the buzzing street.
