Chapter 4
Kaeleen's POV
I did not want to be here at the moonshade pack but being alpha of my pack required it. And there was also the fact that my sister, Rebecca, was a vital aspect of this alliance with the humans. Although from my perspective, there was no point in having an alliance. I mean a written alliance but since that's what the werewolf community wanted, we were going to have to deal with it.
I wasn't supposed to arrive at the moonshade pack this early but I was done with work and I thought, why not. I came alone without my sister or my second in command. I knew they would come together. And yes, they would both be shocked when they realise that I left without them. I lied to Alex, my second in command, telling him I was just going to chill at home while he finished up with work and picked up his wife, yes Rebecca his wife and mate was my older sister. I was going to forever be a third wheel with them around.
The first thing I realised when I got to the moonshade pack was that it was starkly different from ours. It had a more traditional feel. The compound looked a bit traditional with houses located at different places. But that wasn't why it gave a traditional feel. It was the atmosphere. The baskets the women held, how they all stared at me like I was a weird specimen. How they looked at my car like they hadn't seen it. In a word, they looked poor. It made me wonder how this pack was rumoured to be the strongest to ever exist right now. Even the way it was being run felt more traditional. I mean we were in modern times for God's sake. Shouldn't they change along with how the world was changing?
I had been directed to the main building where I guessed the alpha, Leon lived and when I walked in, I found something a bit comical. It appeared like there was a meeting going on and a woman was being escorted out. She was striking. Long luscious brown hair and brown eyes. The gown was ill fitting and worn out but I could make out those beautiful curves underneath. This was the first time I was reacting to someone like this. And her scent, damn. She smelled like roses. I've never liked it but coming from her, I wanted more. There was a connection between us. I wondered if she could feel it. I hated the way the men were holding onto her like she was some criminal and I wanted to ask but Leon wouldn't give me the opportunity.
Immediately she was escorted out, he requested everyone leave us. Except for a blonde haired man and the two men who had escorted the woman out.
"Is that how you treat ladies around here?" I asked him as I strolled towards him.
He ignored me. "You are early." He said with a hint of annoyance.
"I like to be early." I said to him with a smirk.
He scoffed. "That's not what I've heard."
My smirk widened. "It seems news of how awesome I am has reached your ears then."
He scoffed. "Awesome.." he muttered with disgust.
Was I offended that he looked like I had crossed him even if we were just meeting officially for the first time? Yes, a bit.
"It seems I'm the first to arrive." I said to him,
"Yes."
"And..am I going to be shown where I'm supposed to stay or are we going to keep on doing whatever this is." I motioned with a finger between us.
"The place where you'll reside still needs finishing touches. You may wait." He said to me,
Perhaps if this were to be some other time, I would have taken offence at his words but I chose to be quiet because I had promised Alex I wouldn't act impulsively or do this gs go cause trouble for our pack. We are lowkey and we liked to keep it that way.
"Very well." I said to Leon as I walked out of the hall.
My first thought was to find the mysterious woman with brown hair. I needed to know who she was. It didn't take me long to find her but she was having a conversation with another woman who looked different but also similar to her. The mysterious woman tried to reach out to the other who walked briskly away but I stopped her.
"She doesn't want to speak with you." I told her.
Her brown eyes narrowed on me. "And how would you know that?" She asked me.
It was obvious she was angry that I had stopped her from reaching out to the other person.
"Her mannerisms? Her body language?" I asked her with a shrug. "Whatever you guys were talking about, she didn't want to talk with you. She looked more like she wanted to strangle you." I told her honestly.
She gasped in shock then shook her head. "No..that's not possible. Clara wouldn't have thoughts like that." She muttered more to herself than to me.
But I was sure. If there was one thing I was good at, it was reading people. And that woman, Clara, looked like she wanted to kill this woman before I spoke with her.
"I'm not lying." I told her and after a pause asked her. "Who is she to you?"
"My sister." She said in a whisper.
There were tears gathered in her eyes. "I...I have to go." She said as she took off.
I started to go after her when I heard someone call my name. I knew who it was without even turning.
"Fuck." I cursed and turned to Rebecca. "You're here early." I said to her,
Rebecca smiled. "Early enough to see you going after a woman already. Who is she?" She asked me.
Truthfully, I had no idea but I was going to find out.
