Chapter 6 - CEO Of A Company

"He's my husband, after all. This is all your fault! You shouldn't have even arrested him in the first place," Jessica replied putting the blame on Abigail, her face darkened with anger as she feels like the course of Morgan's death was because Abigail arrested him.

"Hey, don't blame me for this. It's all his fault! He shouldn't have run from the police in the first place. If he was obedient and stayed put in their captivity on their way to the station, this wouldn't have happened."

Abigail's voice was as innocent as a snake. Her pretense and act were just so perfect that Jessica couldn't sense anything off in the way she acts.

"I want to see his body then? Where is his body now?" Jessica demanded. The tears that had gushed out from her eyes recently made her voice cracking.

"Are you deaf? Didn't you hear the policeman said something like they have to burn the body at the furnace?" Abigail said gasping with a narrowed eyes.

"Why are you even bothering us? Go to your room and thank God that his plans didn't work on snatching the steel manufacturing company before he died."

Jessica was pained by Abigail's words. Abigail sounded like she didn't care. And now that Jessica had a son for Morgan, and the son didn't even have the chance to talk to his father, it made Jessica more worried. Caspian will had no choice than to grow without a father.

Jessica had been praying and had faith that Morgan could return someday, but now, hearing that he's dead, made everything just worse, a nightmare she couldn't wake up from.

Jessica rolled on her wheelchair as she went back to her room, her heart racing, eyes swollen due to the intense crying, and the excess tears that rolled out from her eyes nonstop.

Caspian was asleep at the moment, but as soon as he heard the wheelchair rolling forward, he woke up, then stood from the bed, walking to his mother with sleepy eyes.

"Mum," he called out. "What's wrong?" he asked.

Caspian was just five but was so smart to noticed very fast that his mother was bothered about something. Even with the way Jessica tried to fake it, he still insisted on knowing.

"Why are you crying mummy?" Caspian used his hands to clean Jessica's eyes.

"Mum," he called out again, noticing his mother just chuckling with a grin without giving him a reasonable reply.

"Caspian, my boy, you don't have to worry about me, okay?" Jessica finally replied as the questions became more persistent. She held Caspian on the cheek, then playfully yanked it. "Go to sleep, okay?" she added, grinning.

"Mum, but I can't sleep," Caspian replied. "I kept seeing that same man from yesterday in my dream. By the way, Mum, who is he?"

Caspian's little voice was so sharp and accurate in asking sensitive questions that got Jessica pale at the replies she was to give him. And if she kept ignoring Caspian, he wouldn't stop; he would keep asking again and again.

This specific question of who Morgan was that Caspian was asking about got Jessica puzzled on what to say. She couldn't start explaining that his dad, who had forsaken them for five years, just returned, and now after five days, news was reaching them that he's dead and his body can't be retrieved. It sounded so absurd and insane, the kid wouldn't understand. Explaining something this sensitive to a child like Caspian at this age would be unreasonable, so Jessica desided to keep diverting caspian attention.

"Caspian, you don't have to worry about the man, okay? He's just a visitor," Jessica tried to lie.

"A visitor?" Caspian asked anxiously. "Then I would love to see him again," he added, holding Jessica's hands as he yanked them playfully. "Mum, please, I would love to see him," Caspian insisted.

Jessica had no choice but to bring something up that could distract Caspian from asking more questions that she didn't feel like responding at the moment.

"Caspian, guess what? I saw your toy, which has been missing for days now."

"Really, Mum?" Caspian replied surprisingly, and excited. "Give it to me, Mum! I need it, Mum!" Caspian got more pasistant on the toy, ignoring the previous conversation.

Jessica gasped; at least she had succeeded in diverting his attention to another thing. Soon, it was already night, and Jessica was at the side of the bed, trying to get Caspian to sleep. She sang his bedtime story, and soon he fell asleep.

The next morning, Jessica was doing the cleaning. Cleaning and cooking were always hobbies she loved doing, but it got more into her that all the time, she had to do it. Sometimes, if she forgot about doing the house chores, Isabella, who was the youngest, would come knocking on her door, reminding her that she got something to do.

Isabella was so lazy that even washing her clothes was a stress to her. To an extent, she even brought her clothes to Jessica one day to wash for her. Jessica was shocked but had to do it because she was trying her possible best to avoid a quarrel with Isabella, and as well keeping the peace in the household.

While cleaning, a man walked into the living room. Abigail walked to him shook his hands then getured for him to seat.

"Welcome, sir. Please have a seat," Abigail said.

The visitor nodded with a weak smile, then sat in the seat he was offered.

"Well, I am Barrister Derick, and I am here to deliver an urgent notice, which is advisable to take action on immediately, or you will lose something precious of yours," the man spoke, bringing out an envelope from his bag, then handing it over to Abigail.

"What's this?" Abigail asked as she gently collected it from his hands.

Abigail's gaze fixed on Derick as she stared at him weirdly.

"Check it for yourself."

Abigail shifted her gaze back to the envelope, then brought out the paper inside. Seeing the date and the write-up on the paper, Abigail's jaw dropped. Looking at Derick, she was speechless, unable to say a word.

"But... but..." she stuttered, her eyes darting on the paper as she saw what her eyes couldn't comprehend.

"Yes, of course. What you are seeing is real. Your company, which, let me say, Miss Jessica controlled, has been sanctioned for fraudulent activities and will go bankrupt if nothing is done or worse," the barrister elaborated on the entire written words on the paper with just few words.

"But how is this possible?" Abigail asked. "We haven't done anything wrong. We have no criminal record!" Abigail protested, but it was all shoved into the air before reaching Derick's ears.

"Why not call the CEO of the company instead? Maybe she may know what's going on," the barrister insisted, refusing any further conversation with Abigail.

"I need Jessica to be here. Her attention is needed," Abigail called out, raising her voice as she demanded the presence of Jessica.
