Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Daycare and Enhacement.

Next Day

As Clarey sits on her bed thinking about several things, a toddler walks into her room and sits down to play with cars and plastic soldiers.

Clarey: (Ok, so. Where do I even start?)

(This is so much trouble, why cant my sweat grandchild life be peaceful)

Lost in her own thoughts, she pays no mind to her grandson — until she sees a plastic soldier. Suddenly, flashbacks assault her.

Clenching her fists with an angry expression, memories of her time in the army — of innocent people being killed for seeing too much — flood her mind.

(Just cant let them find him.)

Clarey: "Listen sweetheart, I don't know if you can understand me ."

"It better for you to be ordinary. Ok, do you understand?"

All she gets in response is a quick stare from Jon before he goes back to playing with his toys.

Jon: (Duh, that not obvious. Appearing ordinary on the surface is better than being dead.)

(Thinking of what to do in the future is better than nothing.)

(Let's see, maybe what grandma said about me being a magnet is true. System am I attracting SCP and other things?)

Question system, 10 points per question

(No help like always. Mhm, let's just keep it in mind and plan ahead.)

After some thought, he walks toward the living room with his toys in hand, only to see Mom and Dad getting ready for work. Amber notices Jon and picks him up with a smile.

Amber: "There you are my sweet boy —squeeze— I love you. I need you to listen to the caregivers when you go to daycare, ok?"

(Yea,yea let's get this over with.) Being held by Amber, he looks behind with a worried look.

"Grandma will be just fine, Phill coming to check on her on his lunch break."

Phill: "I am?" A stern look is all he's giving.

"I will."

Amber: "Good, now off to work with you as I get my son ready."

Phill: "Love you, too honey."

With everything packed and Jon dressed in just a few minutes, he is off to his first day of daycare. Sitting in the car as it passes store after store, nothing interesting happens — it seems like a normal day so far.

(Well, hope no other SCP attack me why I'm at the daycare. Let's see, what can even show up.)

(The piñata thing and yule man is all I can think of. With both of them most likely not to happen.)

Lost in thought, he fails to notice that they've arrived at the daycare and has already been picked up; only after a sudden movement is he snapped back to reality, where he sees a very colorful sign with the daycare's name.

"Sunnyside Daycare"

(Well that is very colorful, but what you expect from a daycare for children.)

Lucy: "Welcome Mrs. Amber and I suppose this sweet boy is Jon."

Amber: "You would be right, hope he gives you no trouble."

Lucy: "I am taught to deal with trouble children, it's no trouble at all." A smile can be seen on her face as she replies.

After a few more minutes of talking and making sure she knows his likes and dislikes, Amber drives off to work.

Lucy: "Tsk. Thought she never leaves me alone." An annoyed voice can be heard as a disgusted look is given to Jon.

"If the pay was any lower, I would not be dealing with these brats all day long."

Walking in, her whole demeanor change to a caring and loveably caretaker that loves kids.

"What a cute boy you are, I just want to squeeze those cheeks."

Lillia: "Hey Lucy, is this Jon?"

Lucy: "Yep, not acting up at all so far."

Lillia: "He-he, well they never act up with you."

Lucy: "Yea, and they never will. Well, see you on lunch."

"See you."

Walking toward the door, he hears it creak open, followed by the sounds of laughter and crying. Children ranging from one to five years old run around the room, with a playpen set up on the left side for the toddlers.

Lillia: *clears throat* "Stop running around!"

The sudden sound causes the kids to almost trip. The crying stops too — whether it was the toddlers or the kids who were fighting, they all freeze.

Lillia: "Now! Sit down and behave."

After setting Jon down to play with the other kids, she goes straight to her phone, turns it on, and starts watching videos, paying no mind to the now-silent children.

Jon: (Well, she not very nice now is she.)

Tate: "Hey I'm Tate, what your name?"

A childish voice sounds right next to him, and Jon turns to see a brown-haired, green-eyed boy. Even after asking a question, all he gets in return is a stare.

Jon: (I do not belonghere, but whatever. Let's just think of plan for my future.)

Tate: "Hello? Anybody home?" Saying that, he begins to poke Jon head with a finger.

Smack — a muffled sound fills the air as a little hand hits the boy's cheek. A second later, a loud cry echoes through the once-quiet room.

Jon: (Leave me the hell alone.)

The crying makes Lillia look up from her phone. Suddenly, a —creak— is heard, causing her to drop the phone onto the table.

Kate: "What's going on?"

The sudden entry of her boss makes her jump out of her seat.

Lillia: "Nothing, Ms. Kate. It was just the new kid not getting along with others."

Kate: "Well, it's your job to make sure he does. And this is the last warning, no getting on the phone why you're here."

"Yes, ma'am won't happen again."

Kate: "That what you said the last time, ill be leaving now. Properly watch the kids from now on."

As Kate leaves, a sour look appears on Lillia's face — until a smell drifts into her nose, almost making her gag. Changing the diapers only makes her even more annoyed.

Jon: (They don't seem like the best caregivers. Whatever, it helps if I want to do something later.)

(Open, Status)

Superhuman System

Name: Jon Malloy Myles

Body condition: Healthy

Points: 0

Available Enhacements: Skin, bone, organ, veins, muscle, nerves, blood, status

Superhuman System

(Mhm, there is not much to see, the question is how to earn points?)

(Since it called Superhuman System, maybe working out. The few experiments that I could try with the crystal provided nothing.)

(Then working out is next on the list.)

Saying that, he does one push-up, then two, three, four, showing little sign of stopping until a few minutes pass.

(Ok, what the hell is this body. I did like 20, and I'm only 1, with this body maybe fighting SCP is not that hard.)

(No, Jon. Don't think like that, one wrong thought, you will die.)

Some kids give him weird looks because of the push-ups and start having strange thoughts about him, but they stop when a voice is heard.

Lillia: "It's time for outside time, shoo, shoo, you annoying kids."

(Well, that leads me to my other solution.)

Walking out with surprising ease, he heads straight to an anthill just outside the fence and grabs a worker ant. It squirms and bites the hand that holds it, but Jon seems unaffected — he feels no pain, and no bleeding occurs.

(Well, here goes nothing.) Throwing it in his mouth, with a *crunch* nothing happens even after a few seconds.

(Not this one, then let's try another one.)

Grabbing a larger ant, which appears to be a soldier, it meets the same fate as its sister — but this time, the outcome is different.

*Ding* Obtained 0.1 point

(There we go, progress. *Blah* the taste is bad though, no pain no gain what my… uh who was it again… don't matter, next.)

Eating more ants earns him only a few points, and after finally gathering enough for just half a point, a sudden weightiness comes over him as he is lifted into the air.

Kyla: "And what do you think you're doing? Mhm, mister?" A voice, trying and failing to sound stern, reaches his ears.

"You know that a big no no. Come on, you're going in timeout."

She brings him to time-out — a children's playpen with nothing inside except a soft mat.

"Now stay in there and think about what you have done."

All she gets in response, instead of a cry, is a cold, lifeless stare. It sends a shiver down her spine — the idea that a one-year-old could have such a look. Brushing it off, she goes back to work.

(Tsk, annoying caregivers, that was a gold mine. Let's see what .5 point can get me.)

(System, buy statues.)

Insufficient Funds Detected

(Then how much it cost?)

Question system, 10 points per question

(Fuck you.)

(Whatever, it's ok, everything ok. It's not like my family, me and everyone in this daycare can die at any moment or anything.)

(OH, WAIT!!!. They can!)

(What the hell was that? Did some demon take me over or something?)

(Great, another problem I have to deal with, not like I didn't have enough on my plate already.)

Time passes as the kids are taken out of the room. Amber picks him up, and before he knows it, the rest of the day slips by and a new day begins.

(Since it Saturday, there is no daycare. So weird for my first day to be on Friday, but I'm not the parent.)

(Beside, who to say the days are different from Earth. Speaking of, is this even Earth anymore or is it called something different?)

*Creak~*

Clarey: "Hello, baby grandma here. Let get you some sun lite, being inside all the time is not good."

(Well, that means I can eat Ants then bring the sun on.)

Carrying Jon in one arm and a cane in the other, she heads to the backyard. For the first time, Jon gets a clear view of the tall brown fence enclosing the yard on all sides.

Clarey: "There you are, now go play in the dirt."

Going straight to the small ant pile, Jon starts shoving ant after ant into his mouth, expecting to gain points quickly — but he's interrupted by Clarey.

Clarey: "What are you doing, baby. That's dangerous."

(Let me go, *struggles* I said let me GO!)

As he struggles hard, Clarey accidentally drops him.

Clarey: "Come on baby, you don't need them." A stare is all she gets.

"You do?" A nod in response is given.

"It… helps you? How? No, you can't answer that not the point."

(Should I let him, but it is still dangerous. No, he is an SCP I'm sure of it won't do harm to me or my child will it?)

(No… he is my grandson, no harm can come from him.)

A struggle ensues between letting him be and possibly saving her family, until she finally makes a decision.

Clarey: "Just, go ahead baby. You're my grandson after all, right?"

She seems to ask a question not just for Jon, but for herself as well.

Jon: "Yes."

This answer is all Clarey needs, and she returns to her chair, gazing off into the distance, lost in thought. She thinks about the past, the present, and even the future. Memories of the deaths she witnessed surface — monsters devouring each other and even fellow human beings. The screams still haunt her to this day.

Jon: (Well, that was werid. Gaining points is more improtant now.)

After a few minutes pass and normal ants stop giving him points, he decides to look for the queen. Covered in ants that bite to no effect, he eventually finds the queen ant and pops it into his mouth.

*Ding* Obtained 0.4 point

(Huh, wonder why it gave more points. Have to look into that, now lets see I have 5 points.)

(I should have enough for atleast one upgrade from eating a hundred or so ants *bleh* tasted disgusting though.)

(System, buy status.)

Yes/No

(Yes.)
