Chapter 12 - Prelude: Chains Across the Sky

• Real Name: Kaelen Veylor

• Race: Serythian (the Serythian are the "Sons and Daughters of Eternal Skies")

• Hero Name (after resurrection): Soul Reaver

Tone set:

• The Serythians were once a proud, nearly mythological race — beings of soaring majesty, grace, and unbreakable spirit.

• Kaelen Veylor was a prodigy among them, born with wings stronger and brighter than most, destined for greatness… until betrayal and death stripped him of everything.

Now, reborn, he carries the torn wings of a fallen legend, the eyes of a reaper, and a heart that only Zaraya Starheart might awaken again.

Now that his full identity is locked,

I'm writing Kaelen Veylor's Origin Story next:

• His rise,

• His betrayal,

• His death,

• His resurrection by Death herself,

• And his transformation into the Soul Reaver.

Kaelen Veylor of the Serythian: The Fall and Rise of the Soul Reaver

Prelude: Born Under Eternal Skies

Kaelen Veylor was born beneath the silver clouds of Sereth-Alar, the capital citadel of the Serythian — a race whose wings cut the heavens, whose songs once shaped the very winds.

The Serythian were legendary warriors, beings of both mind and might, guardians of lost starways and protectors of sacred realms.

Their wings were said to be gifts from the cosmos itself, blooming upon each child's coming of age ceremony.

And Kaelen…

Kaelen was different from the beginning.

• His wings unfurled earlier than any in centuries—wreathed not only in light, but faint traces of shadow.

• His mind was razor sharp, outthinking masters and tacticians thrice his age.

• His body, though powerful, was forged by intellect more than rage.

While others gloried in strength, Kaelen became the youngest strategist-general in Serythian history — a blade not just of battle, but of destiny.

Empires whispered of him.

Allies envied him.

And in the dark places between stars, enemies feared him.

The Betrayal

At the height of his renown, Kaelen served the Aurethian Republic, a powerful alliance spanning dozens of systems.

He fought not for conquest, but for balance — guiding fleets, saving worlds from tyranny and chaos.

But empires rot from within.

Kain — his master, mentor, and the Republic's supreme commander — saw Kaelen not as a protégé… but as a threat.

Kain, unknown to all, was not merely a man —

He was one of the Hidden Devils of a cult older than galaxies, a gathering of beings who sought to devour the soul-light of the universe.

The cult could not allow Kaelen's legend to rise any further.

And so, on the eve of what should have been Kaelen's greatest triumph, Kain struck.

• He branded Kaelen a traitor under false charges.

• He unleashed assassins not from without—but from within Kaelen's own trusted inner circle.

• He shattered Kaelen's wings, tearing them as a symbol of disgrace.

Betrayed. Broken. Bleeding his last breath in the black sands of the Arkan Wastes,

Kaelen Veylor looked up at the stars he had sworn to protect…

…and died alone.

The Audience of Death

But the universe was not done with him.

Where most souls drift into the currents of beyond,

Kaelen's soul was stolen — trapped by Kain's cult, to be hoarded like countless others.

It was then that Death herself came.

She tore through the cult's soul-forge, an entity of ancient wrath and silent sorrow.

• Death, who despised the hoarding of souls,

• Death, who watched from the voids beyond,

• Death, who knew Kain's growing heresy against the cosmic balance.

She found Kaelen's shattered soul chained among thousands.

She touched him.

And in that touch, she offered him a choice:

"Rise, Kaelen Veylor,

or vanish like so many others.

Rise—not as the man you were,

but as the sword that must be drawn."

In a voice raw with grief, Kaelen answered:

"If I rise…

I rise for vengeance.

I rise for the innocent.

I rise for the betrayed."

Death smiled—a rare, terrible thing.

And thus, he rose.

The Rebirth

When Kaelen Veylor's soul returned to flesh, it was not whole —

It bore the scars of death, the darkness of betrayal.

• His once-proud Serythian wings returned tattered, spectral, unable to soar.

• His body burned with shadow-forged power, able to command the remnants of the dead.

• His gaze gleamed with the fear of mortality itself, enough to freeze even titans in their steps.

He became the Soul Reaver —

Death's appointed hand,

The Warden of Lost Souls,

The Judge of Shadows.

He would wander the universe not to rule,

but to hunt the wicked,

to unbind the imprisoned,

to punish those who stole life and hope.

He would answer no throne.

No crown.

No master.

Only Death herself.

Until, perhaps…

he would find a new reason to live beyond vengeance.

Closing Words:

"I do not live for conquest.

I do not kill for pleasure.

I walk the dark paths so that others may walk the light."
