Chapter 1 - Rain & Departure

Pitter-pattering[1], pitter-pattering of the soft rain. Alurki was left in a deep thought. The rain murmuring running against the metal exterior of the Brig. A rusty relic, yet without her our lives would be empty. The only thing that drives our sully lives is the minimal thrill of adventure granted by these expeditions. By the grace of our captain, Polaris. Shining the light for the path ahead, leading this motley crew. In retrospect, the job was really nothing. A measly grunt job, although government benefits come in handy. Free board, rations, & sometimes even sweets, oh the dearly cherished the hot chocolate handed out, as a result of a great haul. Going around wrecked islands, forgotten by humanity; scrapping anything of value we can find. Mind-numbing work, but at least Polaris makes things fun. It could have been worse, I could have been working for pirates; at least the ministry of New Gereoa treats us like humans, to an extent at least. "Oi, wakey wakey mate." Alurki was left startled, the booming voice, of his beloved captain. "Island ahead get ready." The voice rang once more. Alurki leapt out of the chair outlooking one of the few windows in this iron maiden.

The crew stood side by side on the first deck. After the proceeding of role call. The island was mostly barren, The area being roughly 800 feet. Time visibly passed, as the evening fading into the afternoon. Along with the dissipation of rain which Alurki was down about. By the end of the haul it was 5:30. Their reward for 4 hours of mind numbing work? around a one & a pound of metal. Polaris was upset, although he saw himself first hand how barren the island was. Polaris wouldn't care lye around lounging while his crew worked, although the fruits of their labor wouldn't even feed a child.

"Well the ministry wont be happy with us failing to meet quota once more." All Polaris did was speak the truth. The mood was sullen, no one was in a mood to talk. The tone would probably stay until the next refueling station, where they would have to look ministry workers in their eye and tell them how they only retrieved less than half of quota. The ship slowly died down, the station is 8 hours away. Lights being put out; the crew were mostly sleeping at the time. The only ones who lye awake were Polaris & Alurki, loitering around the bar. No words were exchanged. The scene was awkward, until little screeching could be heard. The screeching grew louder, the two turned to each other, in acknowledgement of the noise.

*𝘽𝙤𝙤𝙢* The crew were in a state of panic, all simultaneously woken up. Alurki & Polaris would have checked out what made the noise, if it wasn't rapidly approaching. Footsteps, it was the work of pirates.

[1] I promise it will speed up, things will get interesting starting chapter 3-5 or so. The chapters wont be very long, either.
