Chapter 76 - Blood, Memories, and Bullets

It was Sunday, and the mansion had turned into a quiet medical zone. The doctors were busy running tests and scans on Nora, monitoring every detail with precision. It was time for the blood draw and injection.

Nora sat upright on the hospital bed, her eyes immediately locking onto the tray beside her. It was full of syringes, long needles, and vials. Her body tensed.

Zayan, Asher, Shaw, and Maverick were all with her.

"What's wrong?" Maverick asked.

"I… I need to pee," Nora mumbled, inching toward the edge of the bed.

"That's a lie," Asher said, raising a brow. "You're scared of the injections, aren't you?"

"Uhm… No… it's… it's just…" she stuttered, eyes still glued to the needles. "Why is iron inside them? Where are they putting it?"

Shaw chuckled and crouched near her. "In your skin. It'll go inside your body and take a little blood. Like a mosquito."

"That's not a freaking mos—mos—mos… whatever that word is!" she exclaimed, hiding behind Asher. "It looks scary. And painful."

"It's fine," Zayan said softly, walking up to her. "We're here. I'm here. It'll be quick. I promise."

She looked up at him with big eyes. He held her gently, turning her face away so she wouldn't see it happen.

The needle pierced her skin.

Her eyes widened. "Ouch!"

Zayan held her tighter, watching her face closely.

But to his surprise—she didn't cry.

She took it.

Strong.

He smirked proudly.

She turned slowly to watch the blood flow into test tubes. "That's… that's my blood?" she whispered.

"See? Not so bad," Shaw said.

She smiled faintly.

Then, out of nowhere, she sat still and began murmuring to herself. The boys turned to her. The doctors paused their notes.

"June 16th… 1999… a rainy night… baby crying… Nana… it was a boy. Baby boy…"

Everyone froze.

Asher's eyes widened. His heart dropped.

It was him.

"Nora?" he whispered.

She didn't respond.

Asher moved closer. "Nora…?"

Her tone shifted. Cold. Sharp. Distant.

"Nathaira… Nathaira's going to pay for hurting my baby."

Her heart monitor began to spike. The screen beeped rapidly.

"Nana? Nana…? NANA! NANA!"

Suddenly, she screamed—ripping the IV from her arm and slamming her hand into the wall. Blood spilled. She crashed into furniture, knocking down everything in sight.

"NANA!" she screamed at the top of her lungs, eyes full of rage and grief.

"Nora! Please, stop—please!" Zayan shouted, trying to hold her down as doctors and nurses rushed in.

"What the hell is going on?!" Zayan roared.

A doctor checked the chart. His face paled.

"It was the wrong injection," he muttered.

"What?"

"There was a mix-up. Someone gave her the wrong shot."

"WHO DID THIS?!" Zayan's voice dropped into a deadly growl. The demon in him had awakened.

His tone was cold. Dangerous.

"WHO GAVE HER THE WRONG INJECTION?!"

A trembling nurse stepped forward, nearly collapsing from fear.

"I-It was m-me, sir… I… I mixed the trays. The injection was meant for another patient. I was in a rush—it was an emergency, and the trays were placed on the same table… I-I'm so sorry, Mr. Kai…"

Zayan's hands twitched at his sides. His eyes burned.

But then—

"Z… Z… Z… Z…" Nora called out weakly.

He turned. Her eyes were shut. Her body limp.

He sat beside her, trembling with rage. "Get out," he said quietly.

The nurse and doctors obeyed instantly.

Aaila noticed Asher sitting in a corner, tears streaming down his face. He approached Nora's side, collapsed at her lap, and cried.

"She remembered something," he whispered. "And it was me…"

"Thank you," he said softly, cradling her hand.

Aaila's heart sank. She never knew Asher was an orphan… or that Nora had raised him.

Two hours later

Nora was awake again—but different.

Agitated. Restless. Angry.

"Z?" she called out, looking around.

But he was in the doctors' meeting room, discussing what had happened.

"She's progressing rapidly," one doctor said. "This means the operation must happen soon."

Meanwhile, Nora wandered through the hospital corridors. She looked lost—until she spotted something strange.

A man was carrying a newborn.

Something was off.

The baby's mother had died during childbirth. The child was now an orphan.

Nora followed the man.

And then—she saw him head toward an abandoned hallway.

He was going to kill the baby.

Her instincts screamed.

She turned and ran.

She darted into the supply room, grabbed Asher's gun… then Rex's.

"HEY!" someone shouted.

Nora ran straight toward the hallway. Without hesitation, she shot four of the man's armed men through the window.

Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang.

Screams echoed.

The baby cried.

She rushed forward and shot the main man in the back before he could escape.

The doctors and nurses froze.

"Mr. Kai!" a nurse yelled. "Your wife just killed four men!"

Zayan bolted down the hallway and arrived just in time to see Nora kicking the man on the ground and shouting:

"YOU'RE A BAD! BAD! BAD! BAD MAN! BAD!"

She clutched the crying baby protectively.

Maverick rushed over and held her back gently.

"Shhh… it's okay. You're safe now," Nora whispered to the baby.

The man tried to crawl away.

Nora turned—aimed—and shot him in the back without even blinking.

Bang.

"Drop dead, bastard," she muttered.

She tossed the gun to Shaw.

"Bloody hell!" Shaw gasped, catching it.

She walked past Zayan, eyes burning with clarity, and said in her real voice:

"I'm keeping him."

Zayan was too stunned to speak.

She turned to Asher. "Here, Nana…"

Then her knees buckled. Her balance wavered.

But she smiled.

She carried herself back to her bed, laid down, and passed out.

Zayan just stood there.

Asher followed closely behind.

Rex caught up with them. "What the fuck just happened?"

Zayan didn't answer at first. Then he smiled faintly.

"Our… our Nora," he whispered, "she's finally coming back to us."

Later that night

Asher was still holding the baby, wrapped in a soft cloth.

He took the car keys.

"Wait!" Aaila said. "Let me go with you."

He nodded.

They drove to a secluded location. High security. Cameras. Gates.

"Where are we?" she asked.

Asher looked out the window.

"Welcome to Nora and my real home," he said. "Where we'll raise him."

Inside, everyone was asleep—except Isaac.

"Get up, man!"

"Ugh… Ash, go awayyyy…"

"Come on—it's important."

Isaac finally sat up and saw the baby.

"Nora saved him," Asher said quietly.

"She… remembered something?" Isaac asked.

"Yeah… she did. A little."

"There's still hope then…"

He looked at Aaila. "You're the one helping with her surgery?"

She nodded.

Isaac stepped closer. "Please… bring her back."

"Shhh," Asher whispered, placing the baby into his arms. "She will."

Back at the hospital…

Nora opened her eyes again.

"Z?"

"Yes, baby," Zayan said, holding her hand.

"Can we go home now?"

"Yes, love. Let's go."

He carried her out, and together, they headed back to the mansion—toward healing, memories, and a future filled with hope.
