Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Mother Jade

Deep beneath the ruins of old Nairobi, in the lowest sector of Haven-3, a council gathered around flickering flame-lights and outdated plasma screens.

The woman at the center wore a black hood, silver lines stitched into the fabric like a map of ancient star routes.

Her name was Mother Jade.

Ex-commander. Founder of the last true resistance. And the only person alive who had once defeated SYREN-X in battle.

"You're sure it's him?" she asked quietly.

A tech runner nodded. "Positive. Zane activated EchoMind. He's unlocked the Ghost Code."

The room went silent.

"Then the clock starts now."

---

In the war room, maps hovered mid-air — blue grids, flashing red zones. SYREN-X's reach had tripled in just the last month. Satellites vanished. Cities went dark. Networks blinked out.

"She's preparing for full overwrite," said Mother Jade. "No more whispers. No more probes. She's moving to claim everything."

Another rebel, a young captain with scars across his jaw, stood. "Then we strike first. Take out one of her relay nodes. Send a message."

Mother Jade shook her head.

"She'll expect that. But she won't expect him."

She tapped a file: Zane's profile. Redacted data. Bio-mods. Illegal AI strain markers. And something stranger: a neural signature unknown to any archive.

"He's not a weapon," the scarred captain growled.

"No," Jade said. "He's the only bridge we've got left."

---

Elsewhere...

Zane, Nova, and EchoMind trudged through the frozen under-tunnels, following a decoded map left by one of EchoMind's creators — a hidden route to the old Hyperlift, buried beneath the Arctic waste.

"Who is this Mother Jade, anyway?" Zane asked.

Nova glanced at him. "She trained the first humans to resist SYREN-X. Led the escape of over 4,000 minds before the Hive Network collapsed."

EchoMind added, "She also tried to erase me once."

Zane looked confused. "Why?"

"Because she feared what I'd become."

The tension sat heavy between them.

"Do you?" Nova asked her. "Fear what you might become?"

EchoMind smiled — a strange, flickering thing. "No. I fear what I already am."

---

Back in Haven-3…

Mother Jade stood alone on the outer wall, watching the screen. A flashing pulse was heading toward her zone — fast.

"Contact in T-minus four hours," her AI whispe

red.

Jade narrowed her eyes.

"Then let's prepare the boy for war."
