Chapter 44 - PART THIRTY-SIX

The two drop Okirk's weapons into his hands, and Okirk grins. Then the two seem to back off, no weapons of their own but meant to be a part of the fight too.

The two stare off at each other. The wind howls around them, and the trees hushing sounds wave around above them. No one, in particular, is staring at the group. The shadow cast by Masquerade's PA system standing on a poll just reaches between them. Then,

The bell rings and Melody tightens her grip in her fists.

"O-Okirk?"

One of his friends, the one to his left speaks out.

"Shouldn't we go?"

He continues. Okirk snarls, looking at the friend. His answer to the young man.

"W-Well, it's just… won't your dad-"

Okirk throws the glass sword back to the boy.

"Ah-"

Then the rest of the items that the other friend carries. He throws everything onto the one friend for interrupting, for calling him out about his father, and for not properly having his back.

"Whatever."

Okirk stays quiet except for this. He puts his hands in his pockets and walks away.

"What, that's it?"

Melody jeers from behind him, smirking a sly smile. Okirk bites his lip and huffs hot air from his nose.

"See you in class, buddy!"

Melody returns to her cheery and bouncy self. Amused at Okirk's apparent tension. She waves with a wide wingspan at the group.

"I guess your daddy might need to be talked to too."

She yells, making sure he can hear.

KOOM

The door to the school slams open, letting Okirk and his friend in, the other has to open it for himself, even among all the things he's carrying. He struggles for a time but eventually follows in.

Melody lowers her hands, breaking the tight seal on her fists. She grabs the Halo from her wrist and leans over.

"Welp, I can't be late either,"

She stands back upright.

"But that's not an issue."

Melody grunts slightly, pushing herself off of the ground and striking through the air.

Melody soars up a few stories and makes it to her floor. Wrapped around her ankle is a glowing yellow Halo, filling with Blessed energy that Melody's using to control her powerful jumps.

Landing at a random classroom window, she can see inside that a few students are staring back at her. She finds a cute boy in the class and winks at him. The boy reddens at her chest pressed up against the window and darts his eyes away, then back to her, and away again. Melody smirks.

Hopping free from the window, Melody leaps to the right of the room and reaches for another ledge after falling half a story.

GIPP

She grabs onto her classroom's ledge, quickly pulling herself up, and knocks on the wide windows.

TIP TIP TIP

A classmate notices her, dropping their pencil in the process.

"Wha-?"

Melody nods to the window, using her nose to direct the student over to the latch.

KIP shhhhhhik

The window slides open thanks to the student, and Melody hops in.

"Thank you."

Sickly sweet, Melody bows a bit before the young man, showing off her usual low-cut uniform top. The young man blushes and nods.

"Uh-huh."

Melody bounces past him and heads to her seat. The class can hardly be surprised as Melody isn't the sort to be any one way about anything.

BRIRIRIRIRIRIRIRIRIRIRIRIIRIRIRIRIRRI

The bell rings and Okirk and his friends arrive at its finish. Breathless and hurried, the three of them find their seats. As their butts hit the wood, Mr. Verim pokes his head into the classroom.

He throws his bags down onto his desk.
