Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Frenzied Fang Wild Dog

"Triggered an advanced quest? This must be a hidden quest," Jiang Bai's face immediately lit up with a smile.

"No doubt about it, this Iron-Backed Boar must be a level 4 monster. Although it's a bit challenging at the moment, once I reach level 4, or even level 3, it shouldn't be a problem."

However, Jiang Bai's laughter was cut short halfway as he read the next lines.

Quest Note: The quest requires players to complete it at their current level. Therefore, players will not gain any experience points until the quest is completed. The quest duration is 6 hours, and players are not allowed to form a party during the quest.

Failure Penalty: If the quest fails, the player will be permanently stuck at their current level.

"Clap! Clap! Clap!"

Jiang Bai couldn't help but applaud the old blacksmith upon seeing these lines.

"You're amazing!"

"This is just too outrageous!"

Not to mention the two unique blue pieces of equipment he currently had, even a five-person team of level 2 players would probably struggle to take down a level 4 boar.

"And if I fail, that means my journey in Genesis will be over! Stuck at level 2 forever!"

After being stunned for a while, Jiang Bai quietly opened the trading market. This was the only way to craft epic equipment at the moment.

But the trading market had gone completely mad.

When Jiang Bai watched a common dagger priced at 5,555 copper coins get sold instantly, he immediately abandoned the idea.

It was then that he realized just how absurd the equipment market had become.

After all, getting started was crucial, and the equipment drop rate in Genesis was just too low. For ordinary players, spending hundreds or even thousands on a piece of junk might not seem worth it, but for wealthy families, guilds, and professional players, it was absolutely necessary.

Looking at his blue equipment again, Jiang Bai swallowed hard.

"If these were tradable, wouldn't my two blue pieces sell for tens of thousands?"

Thinking this through, Jiang Bai opened the skill trading market again.

A basic skill book like Basic Archery was priced at over 1 gold coin at the lowest!

"Ten thousand!? Ten thousand for a basic skill!?"

Jiang Bai clicked his tongue in disbelief and closed the trading market without even daring to look further.

Genesis did not have ready-made skill trainers; all professional skills were obtained by players, which was why basic skills were priced so exorbitantly.

"Forget it, I'd better check the attributes of the 'Iron-Backed Boar' first, so I can mentally prepare myself."

For a moment, Jiang Bai felt a bit at a loss and left the newbie village again after buying a bottle of healing potion.

It wasn't that Jiang Bai was too stingy; it was that the system was too greedy.

The lowest-level healing potion cost 10 copper coins per bottle. Jiang Bai finally understood why Genesis dared to set a fixed currency ratio of 1:1. The consumption of in-game currency was bound to be enormous, and there was no need to worry about inflation at all.

"Hey, little brother, want to join a party? 4=1, need a DPS!"

"Hey, bro, your bow looks pretty good. Join our team, a fast leveling squad, 4=1 with a healer."

...

Perhaps it was the weapon on Jiang Bai's body, which was different from the newbie equipment, that attracted a lot of attention. As he walked through the crowd, a series of party invitations popped up.

Jiang Bai wasn't in the mood to deal with these passers-by and declined them all before leaving the newbie village.

"Tsk, actually thinking of going solo to farm monsters, overestimating yourself!"

"Thinks he's someone just because he has a lousy bow?"

...

Beyond the territory of the level 1 Demonized Rabbits, the area of the level 2 monsters, the Fanged Wild Dogs, was sparsely populated. After all, the vast majority of players were still at level 1, and there were only a few like Jiang Bai who had leveled up so quickly.

It wasn't until the boundary area to the right of the Fanged Wild Dogs that Jiang Bai saw a few boar-like monsters. He immediately cast a Scouting Skill.

Iron-Backed Boar

Level: 4

Attack: 40

Defense: 15

Health: 300

"Damn it!"

Jiang Bai was afraid that looking at the dark boar for too long would get him stomped to death, so he quickly retreated.

"This damn thing doesn't have a high attack, but it has thick health and high defense. A normal level 2 player, even with all attack stats maxed out, would only deal about twenty points of damage, and after defense reduction, it would be less than ten points, not even one-twentieth!"

"No way to fight it at this stage!"

"And no teaming up allowed!"

If other players knew about Jiang Bai's quest, they would probably be terrified.

After all, the difficulty of Genesis meant that farming monsters of the same level required at least a three-person team. That was how the game was designed. Jiang Bai's ability to solo farm monsters of the same level was already astonishing, let alone solo farming higher-level monsters!

That was simply impossible! At least at this stage, right after the game had launched.

"I'll #...#&¥ that old blacksmith!"

Jiang Bai was cursing the old blacksmith in his heart.

Just as Jiang Bai was complaining bitterly with a dark expression, a green name suddenly caught his attention.

Frenzied Fang Wild Dog (Elite)

Level: 3

Attack: 35

Defense: 5

Health: 180

"An elite-level monster?"

Jiang Bai was taken aback.

"Normal wild dogs have 30 attack and 110 health, but this elite wild dog has 180 health and 35 attack. High attack and thin health, it's not impossible to fight."

"And this elite monster can't possibly drop only copper coins, right?"

Slowly, a plan began to form in Jiang Bai's mind.

He gradually increased the distance from the frenzied wild dog and calculated, "After defense reduction, I can deal 34 points of damage with one arrow. With 180 health, it will take five arrows and a bit more to finish it off."

"This dog deals 26 points of damage with one hit. I currently have 90 health, and with the small healing potion that restores 30 health instantly, I can take four hits at most!"

"That's enough!"

Once he made up his mind, Jiang Bai pulled back to a distance of thirty yards and shot an arrow without hesitation.

"-68"

A bright red number popped up from the wild dog's head, and Jiang Bai was immediately invigorated.

"Actually got a critical hit!"

The archer class has a hidden critical hit talent, but since the player's stats were relatively low at the beginning of the game, this was the first time Jiang Bai had triggered a critical hit.

"Ooof!"

With its health dropping to below 100 in an instant, the wild dog sprinted towards Jiang Bai, its long, sharp fangs gleaming menacingly in the sunlight.

The wild dog was much faster than the rabbit, and being a frenzied wild dog, when Jiang Bai shot his second arrow, the distance of thirty yards had already been halved.

"-34"

The wild dog now had only 78 health left!

He shot the third arrow.

While "-34" appeared above the wild dog's head, a "-26" also popped up above Jiang Bai's head, dropping his health to 64!

Since Jiang Bai's speed wasn't faster than the wild dog's at the moment, positioning was meaningless. He took the wild dog's attack and fired his fourth arrow!

"-34"

"-26"

At this point, the wild dog had only 10 health left!

Jiang Bai's health, due to the wild dog's critical hit, was also down to 12!

It turned out that the "Frenzied" prefix on elite monsters meant that the monsters could critical hit.

At this moment, for both the man and the dog, it was just a matter of the final blow.

But at this critical moment, Jiang Bai did not use that precious healing potion. Instead, he remained calm and continued to draw his bow and shoot!

"Whoosh!"

A cold gleam burst forth, and the wild dog's paw, which was only inches away from Jiang Bai, came to an abrupt halt, frozen in mid-air.

Then, blood sprayed out, the wild dog's eyes gradually lost their luster, and it slowly collapsed to the ground. That final blow never landed on Jiang Bai.
