Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 15

After the thing happened, they decided to see if our suspicion was true. None of us went to our next classes — even Micah and Harmony, who are usually the most grade-conscious among us, chose to stay and discuss what we had realized about my magior.

We tried looking for RJ, thinking he might have an idea about this, but unfortunately, he was nowhere to be found. I decided to message him and told him we were at the back. I also mentioned what had happened earlier at the canteen.

"So, what's the plan?" Harmony asked.

"Have you contacted RJ, Mary?" Reina chimed in.

"Yeah, but I got no response. Let's just do something without him," I suggested.

"Yeah, you're right. So, where do we start?" Jad asked, his eyes still glued to the book he was scrolling through.

"I suggest you try doing an enchantment, Mary. You know, rhyming? Let's see if... you know," Micah said. And I think — we all think — it's a good idea.

"Yeah, we agree. Let's do that," they all said.

I started thinking of a rhyme. My eyes landed on a piece of paper near a stone.

I took a deep breath.

"Okay, here I go."

They stood behind me and watched closely. I saw Micah's eyes flicking back and forth between my fingers and the book.

I positioned my fingers. Once they started glowing, I spoke whatever came to mind:"Paper in the rock, let it fire on spot."

It worked. The paper burned the moment I ended the phrase. I looked at them nervously.

"W-What? Was it written in there?"

"Oh — right. Wait."

They started flipping through the pages, looking to see if it was in the book, but I guess it wasn't, because I saw how Jad looked at me.

"If it's not there, then it means it was just a wild guess... right? I mean, it's possible. And my handwriting — it's common. Maybe the first person who used it had the same handwriting as mine." I was clearly gaslighting myself right now. But that enchantment — I made it up on my own, just like what happened in the canteen.

"Wait a minute…" Harmony suddenly seemed to have an idea. "Miss Avier said that pulling magior is a big magior that we can't just use whenever we want. You did that earlier, Jad — on her."

"So you're saying the enchantment only works on big or high-level magior?" Reina said, as if she understood — because unfortunately, I didn't.

"Yeah, exactly."

"You have a point! Some enchantments in here are about healing, finding missing objects, and so on — those are high-level magior," Micah said, showing us the book where all the enchantments from the first owner were written.

"Are you saying I should make something that's powerful?" They nodded.

The book had a lot of rules for me to take in — literally.

I tried to think of something powerful.

What if I make that flower disappear? Like — get lost, flower.

I'd do it again. I took a deep breath and pointed at the flower in front of me.

"Flower in my eyes, disappear in one sight."

And — swish. It happened. The flower disappeared.

"Oh my gosh!" We were startled by a shout from Harmony.

"What? What? What?"

"Look at the book! The enchantment is there!"

We all looked — and she was right. It was there, and it even had a description.

"So this just proves that everything I say — if it's powerful — automatically gets written in the book?"

"I guess so. This isn't a coincidence anymore, Mary."

"I know, Jad. I have to figure out which magior is considered powerful or high-level so I don't accidentally use it for the wrong things."

"Then stop ditching science class," Reina said in a sarcastic tone. I gave her a side-eye."Just kidding. Chill," she said, putting her hands up.

"But she's not wrong, Mary. If you want to control your magior, you need to start coming to class regularly," Micah said with concern.

"I'll try…" I said simply, but they all looked at me differently."Fine, fine… I'll do it. Tell Ms. Avier to expect me every day starting tomorrow."They smiled at me.

Before, I didn't want to follow in my parents' footsteps, mainly because I believed I had no magior ability. But thanks to whoever did this — if there really was someone — now I do. It's just complicated. It's not exactly normal like everyone else's. I still don't know how to control it, and even the magior itself is still questionable.

It's my mission to find out.

I have to.
