Chapter 2 - #2 The characters around me are a little familiar

The streets of Tokyo were packed with people, all rushing toward their various destinations. Six years had passed since the turmoil of the past, but its effects were still felt across the city.

Tang Ze had just completed his three-month training at the Police University. Today was the second day after his arrival in this world, and he was heading to the Metropolitan Police Department to officially begin his role after completing his nine-month internship at the police station.

His starting rank was that of a police officer. With a mix of anticipation and excitement, Tang Ze made his way to the police department, eager to begin his internship in the first class of forced criminal investigations.

During these nine months, he would shadow his seniors, learning from them and participating in on-site investigations when cases arose. This excited him because, in his previous life, he had been a fan of mystery novels. He never expected he would actually get the chance to experience such things firsthand. His emotions were a mix of excitement and nervousness.

However, something surprised him about the police system in this world. It was different from what he had expected. In his past life, once you became a full-time member of the professional group, you would not be involved in fieldwork again, except during the internship period. The professional group members would typically work in offices and not on the front lines. In the neon dramas Tang Ze had watched, the young, arrogant officers often came from the professional group but were rarely seen investigating cases.

But in this world, the system was different. Here, police officers, even in non-professional groups, could be promoted based on their abilities and merits. In his previous world, promotions had nothing to do with solving cases—only with test scores. Even after solving a case, you wouldn't necessarily get promoted unless you passed certain exams. But here, if someone had the skills and solved cases well, they could be rewarded and promoted.

Professional group members, contrary to his expectations, were also involved in fieldwork. In fact, those with exceptional abilities could rise even faster and gain real power, becoming respected figures. The reason for this change seemed to be a reform in the police system due to a shortage of manpower and the increase in serious crimes like murders.

This reform was a huge change from what Tang Ze had learned in his previous life, and it seemed like the world he now lived in had many differences from his original world.

After getting up early and preparing himself, Tang Ze left his rented room, putting on his suit and heading to the Metropolitan Police Department. Though his assigned dormitory needed to be recognized today, he planned to continue living in his rented house until he got everything settled. The room was small, so he had to clean it properly before moving in fully.

His first destination was the police department's search class for forced criminals, where he would be assigned to work with the team. He arrived early, even bringing bread and milk with him. However, instead of reporting straight to the police department, Tang Ze first visited the dormitory to check it out.

After confirming the place, he made his way to the office of the search class for forced criminals.

"Ah, you're Tang Ze, right? You're young, but already promising," said a middle-aged man named Inspector Megure, with a warm smile.

Tang Ze was startled for a moment by the familiar appearance of the man—chubby, wearing a brown trench coat and hat, with a long beard. He quickly gathered himself and responded, "Yes, I am. Please take care of me."

"This is Mikako Sato, my commander," Inspector Megure introduced, gesturing to a short-haired woman who looked like a capable officer.

"Hello, nice to meet you," Tang Ze quickly bowed slightly, still a bit taken aback by the familiarity of the names and faces.

"No need to be so formal. You might even end up being my boss in the future!" Sato smiled and patted Tang Ze on the shoulder.

"Where are Takagi and Shiratori?" Inspector Megure asked, looking around.

"They went to check out some robbery and murder suspects near Rice Flower Park," Mikako explained.

"I see," inspector Megure nodded. "Don't worry, we'll introduce you to them when they get back. For now, just get settled in and get ready for anything."

Tang Ze nodded in understanding, feeling both overwhelmed and excited. As he set his things down at his new desk, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.

"Wait a minute… These names…" Tang Ze thought, looking at the familiar faces and wondering if he had somehow ended up in the world of *Detective Conan*.

Everything seemed to align perfectly with the characters he had read about in his previous life: Officer Megure, Mikako Sato, and even the familiar names of Takagi and Shiratori. It felt surreal, but also like fate.

"Did I travel to the world of *Detective Conan*?" he thought.

At that moment, Tang Ze realized that his predecessor's choice of profession might have been the perfect one. In a world full of danger and mystery, becoming a police officer seemed like the best possible choice. In this world, as long as you worked with people like Conan and followed his reasoning, you could avoid danger and even solve cases.

This was the perfect plan.
