Chapter 5 - chapter 5

Another wolf charged me and I bent low, snatching the first wolf up by the throat and threw it at the other. The half-wolf, half-man growled as it crashed into the other. There was no sign of Fagua or my brothers.

Three more wolves joined in the fight.

Powerful jaws tore into my leg. I held back a yell and kicked him off, then lunged at the next one.

My nails raked into his back and I reeled backward, a snarl ripping from my throat.

Another wolf leapt at me. I dodged and sliced my claws across his throat as I started to shift while fighting them. I couldn't do it fully; I needed every muscle in my body to do that, and I didn't have time to concentrate on it. Not when I had to fight these fucking wolves that seemed to spring up in every corner of my damn house!

Fucking spawn of the devil.

I lunged at the first wolf again. He twisted as I went for his throat and managed to get his teeth into my side.

I roared in pain as he shook his head. I clawed his muzzle. He let me go and I throat-punched him. He crumbled, choking on blood and pain.

Another wolf chomped down on my arm.

I snarled and shoved my claws into his eye sockets. The wolf yelped and stumbled a few feet back, cowering.

I lunged at him again, but something wrapped around my waist and yanked me back.

I kicked at whatever restrained me. A sickening crunch sounded and I grinned.

Wolves circled me, yet their scent of fear clogged my throat.

Had Fagua been hurt? My heart twisted in my chest and I had to push aside the pain and dread. If one hair on her head was damaged, each of these bastards was going to pay in blood.

My wolf thumped in my chest, but I was going to rip these fuckers apart with my half-transformed hands.

I swung around, claws extended. A wolf snapped at my leg.

I grabbed its forearm and twisted it. A sickening crunch sounded as the shoulder popped out of the socket.

It screamed in pain and I threw it at the other wolves. Three went down from the impact and two were trampled as the wolves scrambled to get away from me.

I roared and charged at the wolves closest to me. I knocked them down one by one, my fist pounding into their flesh.

A sharp, blinding pain ripped through my shoulder.

A pained howl erupted from my throat. My fingers dug into the wolf's neck as I fell to the floor. I turned and drove my fist into its stomach. It growled but scurried away from me. I laid on the carpet as spots danced in my vision. Shit! Not now. I couldn't fucking pass out here in the middle of a fight. Stupid curse needed a kick up its ass.

The wolves closed in on me.

Baring my teeth, I pushed up into a crouch, ready to spring forward.

"Stop," Fagua shouted.

The wolves jerked their gazes from me and looked to their left.

Fagua stepped past the wolves. Her eyes flashed red and her hands were curling and uncurling at her sides. I could have sworn I saw wisps of magic flare around her.

"Not one fucking step closer, or I'll rip your spines out and make you eat them," she warned.

Most of the wolves took a step away, but two didn't. My heart throbbed in my chest.

The wolves crept closer to her.

I leaped at them, but she threw her hands up, her magic barreling into them and knocking them to the ground. But they weren't giving up. I punched and kicked all who dared come too close to her, putting myself between her and the wolves. Pain laced through me from my injury, but I didn't stop. I wouldn't stop until she was safe.
